We've mentioned before, in great detail, the many benefits to b« gained from having a library so convenient. It is of especial value during the winter months for both knowledge and entertainment. Please remember to take a minute to go over and cast your vote- Saturday is also the day of the Woman's Club luncheon and fashion show. It's doubtful .if you , need -too much prompting to attend this affair! ' I We've just been informed that one of our lovely 'teens, Miss Sandy Radnei1, will also be modeling. Another good reason for going! The time, in case you've forgotten, is 1 p.m.. and it's this /Saturday, Sept. 17. While we re all looking forward to Saturday, let's not foiget Friday. Friday at 9 p.m. is the EMPOA meeting. Our association has hit an all time low in interest and attendance, so it is very important that EVERYONE make an effort to come out this week. Let's fill the barn to overflowing -- let's not be embarrassed or hesitant to have our say, to make suggestions. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that 'everything will come out alright' without our help. Let's look for some way we can help to have an association that gets things done! and condolences to the Ken Noonan family during their bereavement. Florence Tucker has recently returned from * Hibtaing, Minn,, where she attended the funeral Q of her mother. Mrs. Frank Green, who passed away on Sept. 1. VVe extend our syrr - pa thy to Florence and her family. Recuperating Irene Betke is doihg pretty well after her operation on August 29. Christening Little Jeffrey Louis Bianchi was christened at St. John's hurch in Johnsburg on Sunday, Sept. 4. The occasion was celebrated with a buffet dinner served by Lois. The guests were the Homer Anderson family, the Ray Strossner family of Holiday Hills, the godparents who are Madelyn Freckman and Dick Busch, the I^es Freckman family and Les' mother, Mrs. Freckman of Chicago. News of Faith Presbyterian Church, of McHenry Sept. 18 will be Dedication Sunday at Faith church. The morning worship service will include a sermon on stewardship and the gifts for 1961 will be dedicated. On Sunday afternoon the Mariner's club plans to have a work party in full swing at the church. A light, supper will be served after the. labors are completed. On Sept. 19 Cub pack 454 will hold its first fall meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the church basement. Choir practice will be at .8 p.m. on Sept. 20. The Women's Society of Faith church will hold its first meeting of the season on the evening of Sept. 22. Dinner will be served at 8 p.m. and . the meeting will follow. All the women of the church are invited and encouraged to attend. On Sept. 23, at 8:30 p.m. there will be a meeting of all church officers and treasurers with the National Missions committee of Presbytery. The meetirg will be held at Faith church. Local Doin's David Garrelt's birthday was celebrated with a party attended by several of his little, lady friends, including Marian and Nancy Olson, Denise Lottchea, Lynn and Susan Newlon and his sisters, Debbie and Susan. David's daddy, Walt, arrived home from Chicago with his arms loaded with toys just in time to join the party fun» Jack and Marilyn Fultz motored first to Ft. Wayne for a week's stay, then on to points East including a visit with Bill and Jodj Welp in New York City, and other friends enroute. They returned to Ft. Wayne to get the boys, and then on home to EWM to complete their vacation trip. Joyce Engstrom's mother was visiting Joyce and her family during the Labor Day weekend and on through the following weekend, to attend the EWM picnic on Sept. 11, after which Mrs. Klein returned to her home on Ashland avenue, in Chicago. Debbie and Brenda Ryan enioyed spending three days with their Gramma in Arlington Heights last week. Jerry was spending his vacation at home at that time, getting acquainted with his newest daughter and giving Lois a hand with the chores. Holiday HUls GIRL SCOUTS BEGIN AUTUMN SEASON SEPT. 20 Rita Oleyar - EV. 5-4763 Intermediate Girl Scout Troop 478 will' resume regular meetings Tuesday evening, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. This meeting will mark the beginning of the fourth year for the Holiday H i l l s t r o o p . M r s . H a r o l d Breede will begin her third year as leader, and Mrs. James Harper, her fourth year as coleader. Troop meetings will be held at the home of Karl and Vi Abbink on Evergreen street, off Willow. Vi helped with troop activities last year, and will continue on the trobp committee. There are openings for a few Tirls who wouid like to become Girl Scouts. To be eligible, a girl must be in the fifth grade, or len years old, and live in Holiday Hills. G^rry and Phyllis are to be commended for Ocon t i n u i n g with their leadership of the troop, especially since neither has any daughters in the organization. They are both volunteers, were not "drafted," and have done fine work with the ;irls in the past. Plans for the Future Plans for this year's activities, include, in addition, to the regular fulfillment of badge requirements, a possibility of charitable work with the Woodstock Residence and the McHenry County Association for Retarded Children. Mrs. Wesley Wins Organ Pat Wesley, one of the many people who "never won anything in her life," broke her particular jinx and is now the proud owner of a portable chord organ. Pat's husband, George, is quite talented musically and plays guitar. Needless to say, daughters Diane, Donna and Debra are thrilled at the idea of taking "organ" lessons. Meeting of Property Owners The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the H.H.- P.O.A. will be held Monday evening, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m., in the basement of the Island Lake Lutheran church. Homeowners and rentors alike are invited to the meetings. Attendance has been good, but could be better. Those whose dues are in arrears are urged to pay the treasurer, Mrs. Ellen Erickson, before time for the snow plowing'contract to be awarded. Welcome to Holiday Hills This week we extend an official welcome to another new family, which joined the community on Sunday, Aug. 28. Charles and Margaret Luttrell moved into the brick home at 312 Poplar with their four children, Rose Mary, who is 8; Donnie, 6; Cyndie, 2; and James, who is just a year and a half. • The two. older children are enrol led in Edgebrook school. Mr. Luttrell is employed as an auto mechanic in Crystal Lake. Both Charles and Margaret enjoy bowling as a recreation: This lamily is not related to the Robert, Luttrells who live on Sunset Drive. Girl Scouts on Outing Troop 478 paid a farewell to summer with an outing at a picnic and fishing grove just outside McHenry. The girls also enjoyed a guided tour of some trout hatcheries. Girls who attended were Becky Hughes, Bonnie Exline, Karen Roby, Patti Matt, and Margaret Weyland. They were accompanied by leaders Gerry Breede and Phyllis Harper. 'Tees Hold Party Jimmie and Victor Justes and Pat Wasley were chaperones at a party thrown by some of the subdivision 'teenage ooys and girls Friday night, Sept. 2, on the newly completed patio of the Justes home. The evening's entertainment included dancing to records, and refreshments provided by the young people. Marge Potratz and Shirley Haufe^wiil | be co-leaders. The leaders are uncertain about any openings in the troop for girls 7 to 10 years of age. They expect a full troop to carry over from last year. „ i Women Attend Open House Lorraine Bemis and Gerry Breede attended the open house at Mt. St. Joseph's Home for Retarded Women and Girls at Lake Zurich recently. Both women were very impressed with the work being done by the workers at the home. The Holiday Hills Woman's club has been sponsoring some handwork and sewing for the institution. Local Boys Make Trip A trio of local high school graduates started a" western automobile trip. Two of the boys, Ken Posiak and Terry Audette, are scheduled to enter the service soon, and want to take one last vacation. Dick Oszkandy, who with the others was graduated from McHenry high in June, expects to enroll at Parsons college in February. ENROLLS IN COLLEGE Sandra Whiting has enrolled in Illinois State Normal university. She is a 1960 graduate of McHenry high school. o POST 491 President Marie Howe, Della Freund, Dorothy Diedrich and Ruth Mrachek entertained the veterans at Downey hospital on Sept. 1. They took refreshments, magazines, pocket size books and playing cards. Verna Schlofner provided piano music. The auxiliary goes to Downey hospital the first Thursday of every month and anyone is welcome to go. We especially invite our Legionnaires to go along. It takes such a little bit of our time and brings so much pleasure to our hospitalized veterans. Won't you join us next month oh the sixth of October. We leave the Legion home at 6:15 p.m. For further information, contact Rehabilitation Chairman Elaine Gray, EVergreen 5-6191. Also remember to leave your magazines, books, pocket size books ahd playing cards at the Legion home. All we ask is that they be in reasonably good condition. The McHenry County Council met at Union on Sept. 2. There were forty-six members present. Marie Howe, Mary Kantorski and, Mary • Einspar attended. Fox River Grove reported 100 per cent in membership for 1960-61. Our drive will begin at our next meeting and I hope our members will keep this in mind and pay their dues promptly. Help us to be 100 per cent as soon as possible. The next county meeting will take place in Woodstock on Oct. 7. _ On Sept. 8, a budget meeting for the coming year was held at the Legion home, Marie Howe, Mary Einspar, Ruth Mrachek, Eleanore Reid, Midge Scharf, Eleanor Crtfutz, Betty L i n g e n f e l t e r a n d L a u r e t t a Homo outlined the budget for the ensuing year. It will be presented for approval at our riexfc jtieeting. , Immediately following, an executive board meeting took place with the following chairman attending: Lauretta Homo, Dorothy Diedrich, Ruth Mrachek, Betty Lingenfelter, Mary Einspar, Frances Matchen, Lillian Conway, Helen Birmingham, Lois McCormack, Marge Picket, Eddie Myer?, Eleanor Reid and Eleanor Creutz. The duties of the various chairman were read and a p p r o v e d . P r e s i d e n t M a r i e Howe presided over both «meetings. Our next monthly mee^g will be Sept. 19.
