Mr. M a l l o y was the. victim of an apparent heart attack and the squad members tried in vain to revive him. Our sincere sympathies are extended to his wxtow and son. •(Late Friday evening a call came in when a car missed the curve and went into Pistakee Lake. The driver managed to escape unhurt but the car was completely submerged in the water. Saturday evening the squad was summoned to Sunnyside, the scene of a two car collis*^ i. Two occupants of the cars were taken to the Mc- Henry hospital for further medical aid. Returning from the hospital, the squad received word that the sheriff's patrol car had hit a cement embankment on the way to this accident. One officer was taken to the McHenry {lospital with serious injuries while the second officer was treated on tw scene. He was admitted to the hospital later that evening. Girl Scouts and Brownie News Troop 408 called its meeting to order at 3:30 last week with ten members present. At this time the troop welcomed a new girl by the name of Susie u£ck. The girls received their permission slips for their trio to the telephone company in Antioch fot; a tour of their building. A short hike outdoors also took place. Kathy O'Donald was chosen party chairman The meeting adjourned at 4:15. It is the first child for the Moehlings. She is the former Betty Huff. Proud grandparents are Katy and Albert Huff. Best of health and happiness are bestowed on this little fellow from all the wellwishers. Mother Passes On Our community joins in extending sympathies to Fred Ansell of Sunnyside Beach upon the recent passing of his mother. Mrs. Margaret Papineau, who was 77 at the time of her deatft, passed away at the Villa Rest Home on Sept. 25. She had been a resident there for the past year and one-half. Hospital Patients Two of our local residents had mishaps this past Week that landed them in the hospital. Last Tuesday Joe AMen brook was cleaning his paint roller and his pants leg ignited which caused him some very painful third degree burns on his leg. He was taken to the McHenry hospital for treatment. "Bud" Lieser fell from a ladder in his place of business last Friday and received a most painful heel injury. Saturday he was in Sherman hospital in Elgin for further treatment. As of the first part of this week, he was to remain there for several more days. Halloween In View The witches and goblins will be taking their trial runs very soon in preparation for Halloween. On the evening of Oct. 31, members of the juvenile girl Foresters will meet in the community club hall for their Halloween party. The time will be from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. -andany member from grade sefhool age on up is invited to attend. There will be a small charge of fifteen cents to cover the expenses. Each girl attending is asked to come in costume. Any candidates for the juvenile Foresters who wish to join are asked to contact Mrs. Marie Oeffling as soon as possible. You must be signed up before the night of the party if you wish to join in on the festivities. Home and School Meeting •At the meeting of Sept. 26 which took place in the community club, found ninety-four members in attendance. This is the first meeting of this season for St. John's Home and? School association. President Catherine Fredrick introduced the new officers and committees for this semester. Sister Elba, our new JSistep Superior, introduced her faculty arid spoke a few words to the parents. Sister Angeline won the attendance prize for having the most parents of her students present at the meeting. Various subjects in connection with our school were discussed throughout the meeting time. Refreshments were served following the adjournment. The next meeting will take place on Oct. 24. Congratulations Corner Many friends and relatives from this area attended the golden weeding anni\-ersary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stilling in McHenry last week. Mrs. Stilling is the sixth one in her family to celebrate 50 years of married life. She is the youngest of twelve children, of which 10 are girls. Belated birthday wishes to Mrs. Klein who was surrounded by her family last week in celebration of her eighty-sixth natal day. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barth celebrated their twelfth wedding anniversary on Oct. 2.. They are residing temporarily with his brother and family, the Bill Barths until their new home is completed. Kathy O'Donald celebrated her birthday last Monday by having a few of her friends over to her house for cake which she baked herself. New Members Welcomed The Blessed Virgin sodality will take up some new members in a service to be performed at St. John's church on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The regular meeting will be held in the school hall immediately following the church service. Arnie Thelen letf recent! for training az the marine camp at Parris f Island, S.l C. Ken Bute of Sunnyside Estates is also with him in training. Jim Freund of Hollywood, Fla.. caught up on a lot -of visiting since his arrival by plane here last week. He also was in the bridal party when his brother, Melvin, married Miss Thurlwell in McHenry last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller, Jake Miller and Mrs. Art Thelen visited last weekend in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Skillman .of Grand Rapids, Mich. Word was received last Monday morning by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith that they had become grandparents once again. Her son and wife, the Paul Zimmermanns of Rockford. welcomed their first born, a son, born at 6:56 a.m. on Oct, 3. The young fellow, who weighed over 7 lbs., will be called Paul, Jr. A reminder thaf Harriette Marshall is still collecting items for the rummage sale which is to take place at the Methodist church in McHenry on Oct. 13 and 14. DELEGATE Miss Pam Ostergren, daughter Of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ostergren, was selected to serve recently as an alternate delegate of the local F.H.A. chapter to the twentieth annual state leadership conference held in Bloomington, 111. Her special responsibility at the conference included working on the supplies committee. The Future Homemakers or America is a national organization of students studying homemaking in junior and senior high schools. The Illinois association has a membership of 28,900 in 592 chapter^., The fork is likely the first tool ever devised by man, after the needle and pin.
