Post 4600 and its Auxiliary have set forth these facts concerning our organization in the hope that you may know us better and understand our purpose. We are always willing to serve for the betterment of our community, V.F.W. Auxiliary Officers Mrs. Doris Moffett, secretary; Mrs. Irene Stoller, junior vice-presidertt; Mrs. Daisy Smith, president; Mrs. Bernadette Cisewski, senior vice-president arid Mrs. Shirley Cisewski, treasurer. COMMUNITY SERVICE . . . Did you know that the V.F.W. founded the "Citizen of the Year Award?" That we have made substantial donations and contributions to the new McHenry Hospital Fund? We also participate each year in the Fiesta Day Celebration, both in personal and financial service. We are proud to announce that the entire proceeds from the Circus, held this year on the V.F.W. grounds went to the McHenry Swimming Pool Fund. As a Community Service we invite "YOU", the people of this community to use our club rooms and picnic grounds, but please make reservations a little in advance. YOUTH ACTIVITIES ... Do you know that the V.F.W. donated its hall for 2 years as a classroom for the retarded children of McHenry before the staite provided a classroom? That the Post sponsors, and maintains 3 fine ball fields for Softball; Pony League; Little League; and also sponsors and provides leadership for one of the finest Boy Scout Troops in this area, Troop No. 116? The V.F.W. organized and Still sponsors the "Red Devils Drum and Bugle Corps" artd also the girls "Color Guards". The V.F.W. donates scholarships to 3 McHenry music students to the Egyptian Music Camp each year. We are proud to boast that for the 15 years of our existance Post 4600 has made regular and generous contributions to the V.F.W. National Home at Eaton Rapids, Michigan. COMMUNITY SERVICE . .. ^ We have donated to the Building Fund of the McHenry Hospital, the Mental Center^ta our community, and the Memorial Hospital for McHenry County. Free transportation is provided for Cancer patients to any Hospital they may choose and also for any veteran or member of Ms family. The Ladies Auxiliary cooks and serves at all Civil Defense Drills. We were on the scene with foM and coffee at the Tornado Disaster Area and we also contribute food, clothing, and personal aid or assistance to any tornado, flood or fire victims. / ' Many United States Flags have been donated to non-profit organizations from the Ladies and will continue to be donated, on request. "Honoring Teacher s Day" is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary. On one day every year a flower is given to every teacher in our local schools. YOUTH ACTIVITIES ... The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary to Post 4600 has made outstanding contributions and donations to the community. First consider our youth activities. We have sponsored 2 Girl Scout Troops and also assist at Girl Scout Leader training school. Each year 1 nurse sdholarslhip is donated by the Ladies Auxiliary to a McHenry High School Student chosen by the school board. We also provide and serve the Post Prom breakfast every year for graduates of the local High School. Free school lundhes are furnished for the needy children of the community. The Ladies Auxiliary also contributes regularly and substantially to the Woodstock Childrens Home . We proudly sponsor the Fiesta Day Queen's Contest and donate the prizes to the Queen and her Court. We are happy to assist at all fund raising campaigns for Polio, Heart, Cancer, Red Cross, Cerebral Palsy, and others. VETERANS' SERVICE . . . VETERANS' SERVICE . . . V.F.W. Post 4600 has a service for veterans, regardless of where she or he is, from or what their affiliations are. Hiis service, known as "BOGARDUS", is designed to help all veterans in distress. Downey Hospital is one of the very important projects for our Veterans Service. Once a month the men of Post 4600 and the Ladies Auxiliary go to Downey Hospital and give a party for one of the wards. We would like to invite you to join us and spend a little of your free time with those disabled veterans at one of our parties. Your presence is all they ask. Each year the Ladies Auxiliary operates a booth at the Downey Hospital Carnival for the benefit of the patients. Funds, Jams, Jellies, and other services are donated by the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. National Home at Eaton Rapids, Michigan. This is a home for the children of deceased or totally disabled members of the V.F.W. A home where these children can receive an education, religious training in their own Faith, a chance to grow up as a member of a family unit, and above all receive the love and care each individual child needs. Finally, the VJF.W. strongly urges e very eligible voter to go to the polls and vote Nov. 8. It's your Right -- It's your Privilege -- It's your Duty. 0
