Fagi Eighteen THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, OefobM 19* lSfil i . McHenry Shores ly-Laws Change i Club Meeting Clare Mueller EV. 5-0558 In the absence of President Jafck Schmitt, Vice-President Fred Stark opened the regular m e e t i n g o f t h e Mc H e n r y Shores Club held last Thursday with the introduction of Willis Coates as treasurer to serve out the term of Bob Tanner who is hospitalized due to a serious illness. Caught in the rising cost of living index and under advisement of the executive committee to offset the 10d per cent j increase in rent for the meet- j ing hall, the club voted unani- i mously to increase the yearly dues to $2 per person., Another | major change voted in will be j the election of officers in De- j Cember so that the officers i may take over their duties at j the start of the calendar year rather than the previously beginning fiscal date of April. This change will allow the hew bfficers sufficient time to set dates and make plans for jtije four yearly events consisting Of,an.open party or dance, the fun fair, the family picnic and the Halloween parties. Halloween is just around the corner, and kids, your mothers, under the direction of Mrs. Winters, are planning a party for you down at the beach. There will be goodies, prizes and surprises^for all of you. Talk it over with mom now on what you would like to be dressed as for this party. Returns for the adult Halloween costume party are slow in coming in. Marilyn Moore, chairman, would like your bid in now in order that she and the othei women on the committee can plan ahead for the event to be held Oct. 22. Assisting Mrs. Moore are Daisy Smith--chairman of the ways and means committee, Alice Brunke, Pat Burke, Joan Dostal, Darlene Hattan, Irene Mueller, Barbara Pogar and Helen Simonsen. Prizes will be awarded for the most original costume, the funniest ^outfit and the best costumed couple. The McHenry Shores buffet dinner and dance is set for Jan. 14, 1961, at the V.F.W. hall Tickets are available from Mrs. John Smith. Plan now to have your friends out for this gala evening. The initial cost pays for dinner and dancing and assures a complete evening's entertainment. John McKelly, voted in at the September meeting to serve*on the nominating committee, turned in his resignation and as the committee Will present their"rantflfl&tes -at tM6 forthcoming meeting in November, Walter Wilson was elected to take his place. Other members on this committee are Sam Zeimet, appointed by the Trustees and Ray Olszewski, appointed by the president. Harry Clausen and John McKelly will reactivate the committee investigating a possible charter for the club. Doughnuts and coffee finished the evening. ( Sewing Circle One of the- j&ecdinplishments Of Miss Arrteriea J961 to help achieve the titls was her use of the scissors, needle and thread to style and make her own wardrobe. DAMAGING WEEDS Johnson grass, one of the most damaging Weeds known to Illinois farmers, is making serious inroads irt southern Illinois,. according to the state Department of A g r i c u l t u r e . Often mistaken for Sudan grassland introduced into Illinois from the South, where it is used as a hay and pasture crop, Johnson grass will crowd out crops and will reduce the value of farm law! by tme-hklf or more, the department warned. The display features the designs submitted by nineteen jewelers from five countries which were selected as the best of the more than 500 original entries received from all over the globe. Indicative of the wide area from which this y e a r ' s design s u b m i s s i o n s came, the winners were from cities as far apart and as dttrjf ferent as Caracab^ Geneva, Zurich, Milan, Montreal, New:, . York, New Orleans, Dallas, Beverly Hills and San Frith* cisco. In the awards collection this year, brooches are the big item. More of them appear than any other single item of jewe|ftr. Variety is so great that a brooch may be all things to all women: a clip for her hair, a cat with big yellow diamond eyes, or a honey bee dripping with tiny black sapphires. There is also platinum in the awards collection and much, much gold. And, speaking of the unusual, one gem creation utilizes fine gold wire spun hito lace. It is the setting for^m all-diamond bracelet from Italy designed after the famous square-meshed lace made on the island of BuranO at Venice. Saturday, Oct. 18th 10 A.M. to 4 PM.
