Not since the burning of the old Knickerbocker ice houses, that stood where the Borden inilk bottling plant now stands, has the ice history in McHenloomed up as the prospects tor the coming winter indicates. The Borden Milk company has started the erection of another ice house at their plant here which will be ready for the 1910-11 crop. This, together with their other .two houses, will take care of 8,000 tons which, it is hoped, will alleviate the shortage last year when ice had to be shipped in. FORTY YEARS AGO Taken from the Files of Oct. 23, 1920 Miss Alice Richardson, a native of this vicinity, passed away in Denver, Colo., Oct. 22, at the age of 26. The funeral was held from the family home in Ridgefield on . Oct. 26. Miss Annabel le Knox, of this village, an operator in the Elgin exchange of the Chicago Telephone company( has resumed her work after a two weeks rest at Margaret Mackin Hall, at Warrenville, Hi. Excitement ran high for awhile near the Mrs. Mary Noonan home last Friday, when four hunters after receiving permission to hunt on the property, slaughtered nineteen turkeys owned by D. A. Whiting. Before the arrival of officials the men had climbed into their big Marion touring car and were well on their way to Wisconsin. P. J. Bauer, who resides near Ingleside, brought to our office a carrot raised on his farm which weighed nearly four pounds and at the West Mc- Henry State bank there are six Rural New Yorker potatoes that weigh 1% pounds each, a sample of the 100 bushels raised on one-half acre of ground on the Bennett Walk- Ington farm. About eighty relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Adams celebrate their silver wedding anniversary at their home on the old Freund homestead near Johnsburg, Sunday, Oct. 24, where they have resided since their marriage. Mrs. Edmund Knox, 77. died at her home on Waukegan street, Friday, Oct. 25, after a several weeks illness. The second occasion, Within a period of three weeks, that a local resident has been struck down by an automobile occ u r r e d T h u r s d a y m o r n i n g , when Miss Mayme Buss, city collector, was hit by a truck, suffering a broken right leg, bruises and other possible injuries. A similiar accident occurred on Sunday morning, Oct. 13, when Mrs. T. J. Walsh was hit by a car on Route 20, McHenry. Richard Vycital, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Vycital, a freshman at Lake Forest college, sustained a broken jaw bone in football practice at the college Wednesday afternoon.
