Thursday. Norember 1ftJW THE MeHEHHY MJUNDEA1BR PUBLIC I PULSE Wonder Lake Incorporation Incorporation^ is a big step. It'is njot, just fflnr today, it is fdrever more. People have a to know every and all powers 'they give to a village under all conditions. The proponents for incorporation said the beaches could not be condemned. We say they could. Whether they would be is not the question, the power Is there. We are not lacking faith nor confidence in our fellow neighbore because ,we reveal this mk. We do not know who our officials would be now, and who knows about a few years later, even the proponents for incorporation ..cannot answer for future . officials' intentions or actions any more than we can. ^ Wonder Lake is in a unique position, and- is fortunate in havini^bUr present subdivision s^tem. We have without incorporation "what other places must incorporate to get; •We feel McCullom Lake had, no legal way to collect for their roads as we do, and so they had a real need to incorporate. We also feel McCullom Lake is too small to attract transients or a great growth of population as we would. So it is true that what is good for one O^nmunity is not necessary for another. Wonder Lake has a great community spirit and many time hours are donated by citizens to numerous activities and services. TiJns spirit will soon disappear with incorporation and it will become a matter of money. Should Jhe time come when the people, need incorporaS> n for a good reason, it will be done without a struggle, and that is the only time and way it should Ije done. Until then let us preserve our way of life and cooperate with each other. If we would strive for a greater voice, let us do it at a coun- McHenry Plaindealei EV. 5-0170 or EV. 5-0171 102 N. Pag* Fb* SHERIFF CHARGED ON TWO COUNTS BY DEMOCRATS As the Plaindealer went to press, a hearing was scheduled to take place involving Sheriff Melvin Griebel, who was arrested by Coroner Theron Ehorn on warrants issued by a Democratic committeeman in Dorr Precinct 7. He; was charged in one warrant with corruptly using his influence to aid someone to secure election to office and in another with corruptly participating on behalf of a political party. The coroner is the only county official who can arrest the sheriff. Bond was set at $2,500 on each charge by a justice of the peace and the case continued. The incident seemed to stem from controversy over a picture of Vice-President Richard Nixon which was displayed in the window of the foyer of the sheriff's office.- Last week Charles Jansen, Jr., was said to have suggested to Griebel that he display Democratic signs in the window, which the latter ignored. Jansen signed both complaints. Previously, a picture of Henfry Cabot Lodge. Was torn from a window of the Sheriff's office. The sheriff, in commenting bn charges against' him said h* Was not guilty of the charges made against him and expressed the feeling that it was pprely an effort on the part of some Democrats in the final days of the campaign. EDUCATIONAL STRENGTH TO BE MEETING THEME : Here's a suggestion that makes sense. It's a bit of advice from top highway safety people. They say . . . concentrate only on driving when you're in the driver's seat. They add that driving is a fulltime occupation and requires your complete attention. Announcing... Dr. Friedrich Ruth, currently vice-consul for press and cultural affairs in Chicago for West Germany, will address the regular November PTA meeting in the high school cafeteria at 8:15, Thursday, Nov. 17. Dr. Ruth will concern himself with an, analysis of the European approach to education and will compare this approach with his observation of the American education philosophy. Although largely educated in German schools and universities, Dr. Ruth .also spent several years studying and teaching in the United States at Emory university in Georgia. His diplomatic career started in 1956 with an assignment with the European Community for Iron and Steel, headquartered in Luxembourg. Just prior to his assignment in Chicago, Dr. Ruth was stqp tioned in Moscow at the WesJ German Embassy. Even in horse and buggy days people took special winter precauctions. According to the Institute lor Safer Living, safe, sensible winter driving requires use of seasonal driving precautions to which everjjr driver should change when he winterizes his car.
