Status Of Young Folks' Behavior Wins Attention Are young folks today "little monsters" or are thej generally pretty good kids? Broadly, this was what approximately fifty parents pondered when they met last Thursday evening to discuss the social behavior of children. The discussion, which drew a record crowd, was prompted by recent Public Pulse letters in the Plaindealer concerning the barbaric and almost unbelievable conduct of youngsters in the 10 to 14 age group at the local theatre. It was encouraging- to learn that these letters have resulted in notable improvement. As intended; the problem of social behavior exf" tended beyond the theatre to the classroom and into other phases of social life. The interest of~the assembled parents was sincere, and while the subject matter was such that immediate action could hardly extend beyond the discussion stage, a number of good ideas came out of the meeting. To an'observer who has assembled a wide variety of thoughts on the subject by following" trends and trialand- error methods of recent"' years, the discussion disclosed some change of ideas. It was refreshing to hear parents express a. feeling that their youngsters were not in neefd of added entertainment and that most of them had little time to spend at home now. It was equally good to know thslt some patents figured a number of problems stemmed fnom too much money in children's pockets and not from 'lack of money or something to do. One thing on which there was quite general agreement was that youngsters are not too much different in the phases of "growing up" today than they have ever been. However, the fact that the number of them has multiplied so many times over, along with the added difficulties of a quickened pace of living and a rapidly changing population, has made the problem more acute and more frightening.
