Chicago Trip Our family drove into Chicago Sunday, Nov. 27, in the nasty fog to attend my brother's silver wedding anniversary. The church service was most impressive, and we were very happy to see my niece for the first time since she has entered the convent. A mock wedding was held after the dinner which was a lot of fun. It was a very foggy trip, but we sure enjoyed the day. Social News , The social which was held at Lehman's • house last Saturday was a success. It was a pleasure to- have the Schumans present. Games and cards were played, and refreshments were served. It was a good turn-out and everyone had. a nice time. Pistakee Terrace News, Vandalism There has been some vandalism being done by some children. The mail boxes have been tampered with and also the posts were torn out by the bridge. The posts were just recently installed with red paper put on them for safety. I would like to ask the parents to look into the matter and see if their precious one? are involved. Party for Kids A Xmas party for the children is scheduled for Saturday. Dec. 17, at the Johnsburg school. Donations of cookies, candies and decorations, will be be gladly accepted. The person to contact is Eleanor Moore, EV. 5-4023. Dogs I was requested to ask the people if they would take in their dogs just about the time our paper boy delivers his papers. He is afraid, because some of the big dogs have already jumped him. He also makes his collections on Saturdays, because it becomes too late in the day when he is through with his deliveries. irrf- _ tfY llirNiimmf Rom where I sic... Joe Marsh Shorty Johnson's "Sound" Remover Our volunteer firemen's convention is quite a noisy affair. It often takes 18 minutes to Wine the meetfiif to «K£i|er. 89 this year, "Shorty" Johnson, our chairman, tried a new approach. Amid all the noise, Shorty got up and began to speak. At first, you couldn't hear a word Ke said. But he kept on until >®lngs suddenly quieted right d^&n. Said Shirty, later: "I figured if I spoke sof tly enough, someone would wonder what I was Ifaying and shush the man next to him. That man would quiet down the man next to him, and so on. All I was^Tying up there was 'Meeting will come to order.' And it did." From where I sit, Shorty's quiet method proves there's more than one way to do things. If a neighbor, for example, prefers. a glass of beer while you prefer iced tea, that's just two Afferent ways of cooling- off. It's all a matter of personal taste. And when you're tolerant of the other fellow's choice, you can be sure of "meeting" with friendship.
