This group, comprised of Henry Heise, program .director; Raymond Schmift, survey chairman; Thomas Landre, action chairman; and Lee Hiller and Dennis Justen, has now finished the first phase of their planned community development program. That phase is the comprehensive public opinion survey, distributed to McHenry residents by a systematic sampling technique to produce the most accurate results, plus a further written and oral query of those individuals familiar with McHenry's problems. All of this information, when compiled, produced the seventy-one points of general public interest shown in the adjoining columns. Each of these points shows both the answers and opinions of the people of our community, coupled wAn the exact percentages of those opinions. The puvpose of this survey is to bring to light all necessary or desired improvements to our community in a manner that will stimulate interest in them, and further action on their behalf. , The Jaycees do,not intend to quit the job at this point, however, for they hive two more very important phases of this project still to be finished. The second phase, now in operation, consists of the careful evaluation and further investigation of the survey results, in ortier to glean from .them all projects which may be undei^fken by this active ciftc group, either on their own or in cooperation with other interested local organizations. After this portion is completed, ^ special action phase will come mto operation, designed to carry out all projects officially adopted from the survey program. The scope of this program, the largest and most important ever to be taken on by the Jaycees, is undoubtedly great enough to engage this group in a number of future projects aimed at the over-all improvement of the community.
