'%• Pige Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, January 26, 1961 SO I HEAR... We could have talked all night! Yep. We sat with Geprge Sullivan at the Elks' Club in Woodstock Tuesday night and covered a lot of ground between bites of a delicious piec6 of roast beef that didn't require much chewin' and chawin'. The event was one you will probably catch in front page news. The Elks presented Mc- Henry's police department with a resuscitator, a very fine addition their life saving equipment. We thank Art Keevil for a fine*evening and*his part in the event. We expect to resume our gabfest with George at the Marian Central football banquet Sunday night. This is one of those weeks where we are going to have to miss a couple of events. Too much. who can be transformed from a dating admirer ir.to a dating lover. This victory over Woodstock put them into a tie for second place, only two games reach from Crystal Lake. Saturday, McHenry went to Geneva to face the Vikings in a non-conference battle that ended 81-67, Geneva winning. Geneva's seven- footer, Hascal Tieson, is a angy, well coordinated senior. Tieson scored 35 points and has an average of 29 points for 15 games. Paul Morenz was the outstanding player of the game even though he is not quite 7 feet. Paul scored 31 points and was all over the floor out-hustling everyone. Friday both McHenry and Woodstock ceded high scoring honors to Rodger Eckert of Woodstock, who scored 27 points, with a cool fifteen in the fourth period. Samien was high man for McHenry with fifteen. In the first quarter, McHenry outscored Woodstock 21- 12. The offensive ball handling was sloppy, but tough defensive work by Reid and Morenz, plan the command of offensive and defensive rebounding by Ed Samen and Bob Vaupell gave us the ball. Bob and Ed both scored 7 points the first quarter. During the second quarter the Warriors gained eight more points to go into the third quarter leading 36-19. McHenry advanced their lead another 7 points to go into the fourth period with the score a comfortable 53-29. The Warriors depth showed as a fresh team came in and scored 14 points. Chuck Miller hit two baskets while Bill De- Cicco hit three. Harry May soon hit a long set shot and ssisted Butch Stacknick for two. The game ended with the score 67-51. Next weekend all teams are scheduled to play wo important conference games. McHenry plays Zion here Friday and Barrington there Saturday, both teams having defeated McHenry in the opening session.
