Thursday, March 2, 1961 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Page Fifteen ^ McCullom Lake REPORT GOOD COLLECTION ON HEART FUND DRIVE . Eve Levesque Residents of the community did indeed show their generosity on Heart Sunday, when a total "of over $120 was collected. Top contributors were Mrs. Peggy Kasper and Mrs. George Iuto, who was also on the" soliciting end. These two will receive a personal thank you from the Heart Foundation. S?p collectors included Mils. Wmda Senter, Petey Schmidt and Gert Walter. Grateful appreciation also to Mrs. Ethel Fox, Ann Nye, Lil Ringelstetter, Marion .Scarbrough, Melinda Adams, Verna Schlofner, Adelaide Patzke, and Lois Parenti. Most of the gals commented on the fact that residents were waiting with their contributions when the calls w«p made. xJiany "thanx" to all who gave so generously--AND to the women who did the collecting and contributed their own share! Co-chairmen for the d r i v e w e r e M r s . T h e r e s a Schultz and your reporter. i Former Resident Dies on Sunday Mrs. Olga Scheubert, 66; t will resided in the village for ma'hy yealrs until she sold her home on McCullom Lake road, passed awsy in Resurrection hospital sometime Sa t u r d a y night. She succumbed to. a second stroke which felled her about two weeks ago. She suffered he first one about 18 months ago. Services for the deceased were held in Mount Prospect TuSday evening with burial private, on Wednesday. Widow of the late George, she is survived by one daughter, Mr9. Violet Thiele, with whom she resided; one granddaughter, Mrs. Arlene Wingate of Crystal Lake, and her greatgrandson Tommy. Mrs. Scheubert made many close friends during her years atj^he lake and her passing wirr be deeply mourned. Climbing Ever Upwards A Steady gain is being made in thfe, bank account of the Cullofft-Knoll building fund. A party, under the direction of Mr. -Mrs. Frank Poledna, was held at Whitey and Bernice's last Saturday and proved qjuite profitable. The next affair will be held at McDonald's on Saturday, March 11. Everyone is cordially invited. A suggestion for further revenue for new or larger quarters has been made and is up for discussion. What is your opinion as to "buying bricks" for the building? Each contributor's name would be recorded. Your comments will be most welcome. the horizon, there is only one day left to check your registration status. Tomorrow, Friday, March 3, is the deadline. Voters in precinct one go to the polls on Tuesday, April 4, to elect township officials. This has no connection with the village elections which will take place on Tuesday, April 18, for which you do not need to be registered. Hope that covers it. Men's Club--Your Hosts For the most tempting array of breakfast foods, turn off the stove, and hie yourselves to Whitey arid Bernice's where the members of the Men's club will demonstrate their culinary talents on Sunday, March 5. All you can eat of the very best AND '-'the price is right"! Serving begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues until noon. A better bargain you won't find. Dame Doings The gals met at the home of Mrs. Marie Howe last Thursday night for an evening of game playing and consuming tasty pastry and plenty of good coffee. Much happier on the homeward journey than when they arrived were Mary Kantorski, Louise Berquist, Irene Sales, Pearl Padelford, Laura Slater, Robbie Carroll, Emma Pyritz, Theresa Schultz, Bernice Bjork, Antoinette Iuto and Wilma Zody. About twenty-five women were on hand to bid welcome to new members and guests Mrs. George Iuto, Margaret Davidson, Henrietta Donkel, and new bride, Lillian Hecht. Nice to see Ella Benson "back in the fcid". Next meeting of the Ladies of the Lake will be Thursday, March 23. Last Chance to Register With an election looming on Tanned, Bathed and Rested The McDonalds and Mrs. Theresa Cunningham pulled up to the front door on Friday evening after their journey which took four weeks and encompassed almost four thousand miles. First destination was Miami, Fla., for a stay "on the beach". Then it was on to visit with former residents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Madsen and a futile attempt to locate Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kinsey of Sarasota. On the return journey, they paused for one Week in Hot Springs, Ark. for the therapeutic baths. In Dothan, Ala., where they rested for one night they were hailed by home towners, Mr. and Mrs. Art Ekstrom of McHenry. Fun to leave cares and work behind, but nice to be home again, was their comment. In their absence, Mr. ana Mrs. Butch Kennenberg did a fine job "minding the store". Sentimental Journey During the week of our sixteenth, wedding anniversary - Feb. 24 - it was only fitting that my "groom"should journey to the scene of our meeting "and romance. We were both stationed at N.A.S., New Orleans during W.W. II. I fixed 'em--and he flew 'em. (Airplanes, I mean) This formed the basis for our future compatibility, but we were married in Chicago, while both on military leave. While in the southern city, Jake had occasion to park his (borrowed) car in the very spot where he claims "I put the words in his mouth". Whoever did the proposing, we're mighty happy about it! and so are the four young ones we are raising. Flying Trip Home Former resident, Mrs. Frank Rourke, hit the airline trail on Tuesday to Adrian, Mich., to be with her dad, John Rimell, who underwent surgery on Thursday. According to daughter, Cynthia, John is recovering nicely and may be home in a few days. It was fine that Bev could be on hand to give moral support to her mom during the trying days.
