Jane Ducey The Wonder Workers 4-H Club will hold an auction, bazaar and bake sale Friday, Jkilarch 10, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. to the basement of Harrison School. The sale is part of the observance of 4-H week which runs from March 4 through 11. " Some prize items for auction Will be a record from Perry Como, a pen from Patricia vNixon, a shirt from Paul Anka, «n autographed copy of Herbert Hoover's book, to mention a few. The girls would appreciate the support of the community. Kachlna Neighborhood News Kachina Neighborhood Girl Scouts will meet Wednesday, "March 8, at 10 a.m. at Nativity Lutheran church. Mrs. Fern Paetow, neighborhood chairman, has all the information on gamp and will give it out to the leaders at this meeting. The sale of Girl Scout cookies extends from March 9 through 18 this year. It will be a direct sale, rather than order taking for future delivery in this neighborhood. Cookie depot will be the home of Tom McMillan. Only fourth grade Brownies and Intermediate Scouts will handle the sale. Harrison School Board There are three vacancies on the Harrison school board this spring. There are two regular three year terms, and a one year term to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Jay Hansen who resigned to devote her entire time to 4-H work. Mrs. Maxine Lichty, former board member, was appointed by the board to fill in until election time. The terms of Jack Falkenthal and Henry Setzler expire in April. In answer to our question, Mr. Falkenthal said he does not plan to run again; Mr. Setzler said he does. All candidates will be introduced to the public at the April FTA meeting, Tuesday, April 4. Election is Saturday, April 8, at Harrison school. Anyone interested in serving on the Board of Education of bistrict 336 can obtain a petition and information at the school, W.L. 5742. •' Auxiliary Sponsors Party The Women's auxiliary of Highland Shores are sponsoring a family party at their regiffftr me&tftig Tuesday, March 7. The meeting, held in the rescue squad house, will start at 8 p.m,*Mrs. Mamie Schmall is chairman of the special event. Refreshments will be served. The auxiliary welcomes Mrs. Ronald Berg as a new member. The Qtrgs are new to the subdivision and ail* opening up the service station in Highland Shores. Another new resident and guest at last month's meeting was Mrs. Donald Bauer. tribute to the Easter Seal tag day which the Wonder Workers are going to conduct as a community service project this year. Girls will be stationed along the traffic routes on March 25 which has been set as tag day for the Crippled Children's drive. In other business plans were made for a roller skating party March 9 and a "Going West" party in May. Health Club, Safety Club and Federation meeting reports were given by Kathy Ahrens, Micky Hansen, and Jackie Hansen. President Krysia Oleszczuk led the recreation. Talks and demonstrations were given by Jackie McMahon, "Adding spices to your life"; Marilyn Marke, "Planning a meal;" Roberta Burns, "Fighting the fly"; and Helen Palko, "How to make a milk drink". PETER'S HALL Mrs. Charles Freund Change of Datea The St. Pat's dance at the youth center will be held Saturday, March 18, instead of Friday night as originally planned. Time is 8 to 12 p.m. Admission will be charged to pay the cost of engaging a live band. Christ the King Church News The Altar and Rosary sodality will meet at the church Thursday evening, March 2, at 8:15 for recitation of the Rosary. At 8:30 the regular meeting will be held in the parish hall. A Lenten program has been planned. All the women of the parish are invited to attend. Sunday, March 12, a day of recollection is planned from 1:30 to 4:30. All women are welcome to attend. Reserve the date. New inquiry class--for all non-Catholics and Catholics interested in knowing more about the religion--will be held Wednesday nights at 8:30. Schroeder for Sunday, March 5, at both the 8 and 11 o'clock worship services. All are welcome to these services, especially during Lent as we see our part in the suffering and passioii of Jesus. "Sound of Lent" will be the program presented at both of the Circles of the "Women of the Church" for their March meeting. The Evening Circle will meet Monday, March 6, at 8, and the Daytime Circle at 9:30 Tuesday, March 7. Pastor's discussion class will meet Tuesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. "Steps to a High Court" is the sermon for mid-week Lenten service, March 8, at 7:45. This will be the fourth in the series, "Steps to the Cross". The Altar Guild will meet after the service at the church. Registration showed seventy members of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women present <?t the open meeting of McIIenry Deanery held in St. Peter's parish hall on Monday night, Feb. 20. Benediction in church preceded the meeting. Clergy present were Rt. Rev. Msgr. Louis J. Franey, P.A., Diocesan Director of DCCW; Rev. Harold Nilges, McHenry Deaneryn Moderator; Rev. Clement Petit, Rural Life Director and Moderator; Rev. Edward J. Lehman, pastor; Rev. Thomas Monohan, assistant pastor. Parishes represented who answered roll call were St. Peter and Paul, Cary; St. Thomas Apostle, Crystal Lake; St. Mary, McHenry; St. Patrick, McHenry; St. Joseph, Richmond; St. Peter, Spring Grove; Christ the King, Wonder Lake; St. Mary, Woodstock. The opening prayer was led by Father Lehman, host speaker. President Mrs. Albert Wipper called on committee chairmen for reports. E&ch one gave encouraging and enlightening reports on the progress of their committees. Spiritual development told how one can obtain indulgences by praying the Way of4he Cross at home and how offe"fean obtain the special crosses used for this purpose. Home and School told of the importance of placing good books in the schools to aid our youth. Libraries and literature stressed reading The Observer and subscribing for this paper during the, campaign. Also asked all to take special notice of the T.V. code. Organization and Development urged all to secure a copy of the suggested constitution and by-laws and compare it with their own or- ! ganization. Also suggested that all affiliates hold their elections in May. Public Relations urged all members to send articles pertaining to their affiliate and parish in early so. that it may reach the Observer In time for publication. Msgr. Franey spoke briefly praising 1 Vic ladies for the won= derful progress that is being made in DCCW. Rural Life Committee Chairman, Mrs. Eleanor Pawlikowski introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Clement Petit. His talk on rural life and the importance of farming was inspiring. He dwelt on the importance if keeping youth on the farm. HONOR COUPLE ON ANNIVERSARY OF WEDDING DATE Betty Hettermann Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fritz were completely surprised at a gathering held last Tuesday evening honoring their fiftyfifth wedding anniversary. The dinner party was planned and carried through by members of the Jak-Ana Heights association. Over forty well wishers were on hand to extend their congratulations to the celebrants. Various members present at the dinner paid homage verbally to Mr. and Mrs. Fritz upon the foresight they had in developing the subdivision which bears their names. A plaque bearing an inscription suitable for the occasion was presented to the couple. A, perfect climax came when Mr. Fritz announced to Father Anger and all those present that he and Mrs. Fritz were donating another lot in Jak- Ana Heights subdivision to enlarge St. John's school playground. For this of course, he received a rising ovation from all present as most of the guests have children in school Who will reap the benefits of this wonderful contribution., The celebrants also received a beautiful floral arrangement from their immediate neighbors. The Fritzes conversed with their friends well on into late evening making this an anniversary celebration which will never be forgotten in the forthcoming years. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Fritz enjoyed the company of six of their friends for dinner as they continued to celebrate their anniversary. Girl Scouts and Brownie News At their meeting of Feb. 22 Troop 295 helped Carol Ann Dehn celebrate her eleventh birthday. Cake and ice cream were served as the treat by the celebrant. Recently Melinda Long was welcomed into this trqop as a member. The scouts of this troo$ haps made a little faster, but one should remember, he said, that toiling God's soil does bring one closer to heaven. -He asked parents to encourage their children to help on the farm. The announcement of - rural life day was made, which w^ll be at Newman Central high school in Sterling on April 25. The r.losing prayer was given by Msgr. Franey. Tfie Bill Martinec family spent last weekend in Chicago when they visited relatives. Ruth attended a pink and blue shower for her niece on Saturday. Mrs. Helen Hettermann, Gerry Stilling and Tom Keenan drove to Jefferson, Wis., last Sunday where they spent the day with Carol Ann Stilling of St. Coletta's school. Final Tribute Paid To Lt. Col. Crowley Funeral services, were held last month for the late Lt. Col. James W. Crowley who passed away Jan. 23, leavlifg behind an admirable record of military service spanning an eighteen year period of continuous active service. Lt. Col. Crowley is survived by his widow Virginia and a daughter Patricia, his mother, Mrs. Laura Crowley, a former resident of Sunnyside Beach, now residing in Chicago, a brother, Harry, of Crystal Lake and one nephew. Burial with full military honors, was in Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Texas. Our sincere sympathies are extended to the survivors. Minus Something!
