Proceeds will go towards the playground and ball field that is being built on the community house grounds. Minstrel Chorus The minstrel show chorus will meet again tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in the d£wmunity house to rehearse. Keep posted for next week's rehearsal. The Carnival The date for the Lakeland Park carnival is slated for June 22-25. This year will be the best we've ever had, with newer and bigger rides. We'll keep you informed on all the lyl^s we hear from the committee. Spring: Arrival The spring stork delivered a cute sandy haired boy, named Scot Michael Dixon, at the Woodstock Memorial hospital April 19. Scot tipped the scales at 6 lbs. 11% ozs., was 19 Inches long and has sparkling I^grey eyes.lEie is the first d of Barbara and t>on Dixon. Mother and son are doing fine and they returned home last Saturday. The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. Dixon of McHenry and Robert Link of Houston, Tex- Christening weth Ann Gerambio, age 6 ninths old, was christened April 9 at St. Michael's church in Chicago. She is the first child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gerambio of 115 Pleasant street. After the christening a party was given for forty guests at the home of Beth! Ann's godfather, James Roberts of Lincolnwood. Diane P»g»Wai Gerambio of Chicago. is godmother to Beth. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gerambio of Lakeland Park and maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Studebaker of Round Lake. Get Well Wishes Johnny Zimny, age 10, has spent several days in the McHenry hospital. He entered the hospital last Thursday, was operated on Friday and returned home Saturday. John is doing fine and his three sisters and brothers, Linda, 8, Pamela and Paul, twins age 5, are glad to have him back home again. Happy Birthday To Ed Druml on April 28 and to Harriet Mikosz on May 2. Birthday Doings Bill Glosson was surprised by several relatives and friends on his birthday, April 23, last Sunday. The guests enjoyed a birthday supper Sunday evening. The guests were, Bill's brothers and sisters, Lillian's brother and wife, Pat and Hilde Douglas, from Lakeland Park, Velma Douglas from McHenry and Tom Allen from Shalimar. Also Bill and Lillian's children and their families dropped in for the surprise. This was Bill's -- 39? -- birthday! An intended surprise birthday gathering was given for Brenda McGue, April 20. Those gals who enjoyed cake and coffee were Jean Hahndorf, Alma Brushaber, Gen Smith Betty Walker, Ann Hirshberg and Brenda's mother, Juanita Harris. Gifts and cards were left with birthday happiness. the most experienced players. Every boy'who signs up will be placed on a team. Now that all of you fellows have had a good look the uniforms, we hope that you liked what you saw. Each and every one of you will look like big leaguers this season, because the club will furnish every player a uniform. The plans are for six teams, all uniforms will be the same, but each team will have their own colors in the caps and socks. There are still a few openings, boys who have not registered may do so at the field next Sunday. Bring along a copy of your birth certificate. Those of you that have nol turned in your application should get them in at the try outs. The registration fee for the year ^will be three dollars, this covers the- insurance and the boys cap. Thir fee should be paid as soon as possible. Well, weather permitting, we will see you on the field next Sunday. Special Birthday Cyprian Kosieracki of 1708 Lakewood Avenue celebrated his seventy-ninth b i r t h d a y April 23. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herman from Thorpe, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Victor Herman from Mount Prospect, Mr. and Mrs. William Omera from Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ko°sie and family and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kozy, both from Palatine and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kozy and family from Lakeland Park attended a birthday gathering for Cyprian Sunday. Little League The weather was against us last Sunday, but we" were glad to see the large number of boys that turned out for the field trials. We hope to see every one of yoii out there for the try outs next Sunday, April 30. The time and place will be the same, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the old ball field on Shore Drive. All of you boys now have an idea as to what the field try outs are like, if you have a desire to play a certain position you can try for it. There will be a couple of days for you boys to practice the position that you want, then get out there on the field Sunday and make a good showing. April 16, 1961 they attended the past noble grand pot-luck dinner of the Rebecca lodge in Chicago. Leaving at 4 p.m. they got as far as Algonouir and discovered they couldn't get any farther, so spent the night in their car, getting home finally at 6 a.m. First Communion Alicia Sweeney received her first communion on April 16 at St. Mary's church. Braving the weather to attend her communion reception were Grandma Sweeney and Grandma Pfammatter, both of Chifasro, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sweeney and family of Niles, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sweeney and family of Venetian village, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pfammatter and family of Skokie and John Pfammatter and his friend. Maureen Both, of Chicago. Attend Reception Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sweeney attended the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary reception for Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thennes on Sunday evening. Starlettes Little Misses Ann Seaton and Suyie Gerstad had the thrill of {>erforming on stage. They were a part of the "Shortnin' Bread" numbers in the recent Melodic Journey show. Concert The McHenry Choral club is having their spring concert on April 29 and 30 at the high school. The time is 8:15 and oriees are reasonable. An enjoyable evening of good music. Spring Starter Don Humann, who has a bad case of spring fever, just couldn't wait. So up at 4 a.m. last Sunday and off to Lake Geneva, Wis., with a friend from Chicago, Phil Johnson, to enjoy some great fishing and the first winds of spring air. Visit to the Zoo Alan, age 6, Linda, 5, Shirley, 3, and Johnny, 2, all children of Ron and Barbara Meurer, enjoyed a fascinating trip to the Brookfiefd Zoo last Saturday. Grandma Meurer of Maywood experienced the trip also. They arrived at the Zoo just at feeding time, so they followed the Zoo keeper and saw all the animals sample their lunch. The chtfdren were very enthused to see all the story book animals alive. Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Don Gerstad had Toot's folks »pend a few days with them this week enroute to their home in Sun Prairie, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Birkinbine have spent the last 8 months in Oregon, California and Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Young and their five children who live in Villa Park, enjoyed Sunday dinner with Ed and Mickey Gladman and family last week- Donald is a brother to Mickey. Lorraine Arlent's brother, Tom Barta, age 12, is spending his spring vacation at her honif this week. Tom goes to school in Chicago, where it is clean-uj week. Meet Your Neighbor Welcome "New-Timers" Mar and Shirley Koch who reside at 1508 Flower street. Like land Park. The dust hasn't hao time to settle yet, as the Koches moved in only a month age from Hillside. Six bright anc lively children really keep mom and dad on the go. They are Michael, 7, who attends second grade at Edgebrook, Johnny, 5, goes to kindergarten at Landmark. Next is Danny, agt 4, Beth Arin, 3, Shelly, 1%, and last but not least,. Marc, who is a happy 5 months old. Cynthia Ann Meilahn, age 16, and ? cousin, lives with the Koches. She attends the McHenry Community high school. Both Max and Shirley graduated from Proviso East Township. This young couple met at a dance and have been married S exciting years. Max is a line man in Maywood and is an early riser each morning as he commutes each day by car. He served our country in the Navy, both home and abroad, and was stationed in Norfork. Va. He likes to fish, hunt and has a gun collection. Shirley enjoys caring for the youngsters, being a housewife and when time allows, to sew. RE-ORGANIZE DEPARTMENT Bills to reorganize the Illinois Department of Public Welfare along lines recommended by Gov. Otto Kemer in his March 28 address before a joint session of the General Assembly have been introduced in the House of Representatives. The Kerner-endorsed legislation is the first 'Step toward providing an effective program for treating mental illness in Illinois. The reorganization bill will create a new Department of Mental Health on July 1, 1961, to supersede and replace the present Department of Public Welfare. The recommend a tier reflects the department's major activity, care and treatment of mentally ill and retarded persons. Cubmaster John Connell was told that only six firstplace blue ribbons were awarded among eighty scout units represented at the affair. The booth contained boat models designed and built by the boys of the three dens in the pack. Boy Scout Troop 132. Victor Justes, leader, prepared a basketry exhibit. Many parents and boys from Holiday Hills visited the Scout- O-Rama to view the exhibits and the skits and demonstrations which were planned for the entire day. Half of the money collected from admission charges went to the local unit and half to the council treasury. Makes First Communion Billy Schmidt made his First Holy Communion Sunday, April 16, at St. Mary's church in McHenry. Billy is in the third grade at St. Mary's. Present for the occasion, in addition to his parents, Marge and Bill, were his grandparents and other relatives from the city. Many more were expected, but the snow storm discouraged them from travelling. It was not known if the baby had actually swallowed any of the poisonous material, but upon advice of a physician she was rushed to the McHenry hospital. Her stomach was pumped and tests made to determine if any naphthalene was in her bloodstream. Her mother, Inez, was then required to make out a report of the incident J:o the poison control center in Springfield. Reporting all accidents of tilts, type enables the center to safeguard the health' of other children who are exposed to poison hazards. Inez was further asked to convey to her frierids and neighbors the importance of keeping all anti-moth preparations away from children. Most of them are poisonous and will prove fatal if enough is inhaled or swallowed. Neighborly Notes Sharon Larie was surprised by a group of girl friends on her fourteenth birthday Saturday.
