Complaints Mail boxes are not to be tampered with, for it is a legal' offense. Could the parents of the little children please take a little time to look out and see what their little ones are doing. There has been important mail missftig and all red flags are up, which has ttv postman stopping at every box unnecessarily. There has been stones and gravel found in these boxes also. The parents will be fined if this does not stop. Another complaint is these dogs again. People are just planting new shrubberies and fixing up their lawns, and these dogs keep running around loose and doirig damage. Please, we beg of you keep your dogs on your own . lawns. - PISTAKEE TERRACE NEWS Second Place Winners Congratulations to the bowling team. They have won the second place trophy. Sad News I didn't think that I would be writing that soon about a death in our own family. We were very saddened and shocked by the sudden death of my brother-in-law, Irvin May. We sure will miss him, as he was one of the jolliest in the family. HANDY HOLDER A strip of cellophane tape, sticky side up, holds any number of parts from small assemblies that must be saved for a short time. ELECTORS STATE MANY SEASONS FOR BUDGET INCREASE At the recent town meeting, held annually, a total town fund levy of $45,160 -was passed. Of interest to the public may be the statement of costs listed under this levy. They include $18,960 for town officers' compensation, $2,300 for election costs, $1,170 for town hall expense, $18,870 for town officers' expenses, $200 for maintenance of cemeteries, $1,500 for payment of principal on debts, $1,100 for services and expenses not otherwise provided for, $1,000 for provision for contingencies, as well as $1,400 listed for loss and cost. The total levy for the general assistance funcf was $38,- 950. All items in the 1961 budget and appropriation were raised 23 per cent for several reasons. One of these was because of the population increase in the township, which has been H per cent, using the past five years as the criteria. The feeling was that the need for general assistance will increase in like proportion. The electors said that with the lack of any reason to show otherwise, they felt the economic situation could remain the same and consequently the 1961 Dudget and appropriation is very realistic. Since the 1961 levy Is the basis for the 1962 budget and appropriation, it is necessary to have 13 percent more money to satisfy the needs. Because there is a desire on the part of the electors of the township to operate on a cash basis, and since the balance has decreased -below a point that will guarantee operation in such a way, tliey increased the 1961 budget another 10 percent. Trees and shrubs increase in value as they grow, in contrast to ^ many things purchased which deteriorate in value as time passes. How do you plant your property to be more liveable and valuable? The purpose of landscaping is to blend the home into the landscape, making it more pleasing to look at, and to afford extension of the living area from indoors to outdoors. A garden living room may be planted for privacy and beauty, affording a delightful area in which to relax, entertain and play ^outdoors. Evergreen trees and shrubs, roses and fruits and other plants are arranged for more gracious living for family and friends:, "Plant a Picture" In landscaping, we think of planting a picture to frame the house. There are three main areas of any property. First, comes the front area, facing the street, which is continuously on view to neighbors and passersby. Here we usually like to see a patch of open lawn. Trees may be planted off the corners of the house to form part of the landscape "frame." We need to connect these with a flowing line of plants, or "foundation" planting. Low-growing plants RADIATOR REPAIR Automotive, Tracks and Industrial 1 DAY SERVICE All Work Guaranteed McHENRY AUTO BODY "We are not satisfied until you are" 611 Front St. Ph. EV 5-0444 are placed along the front of the house at its foundation. These are better placed in flowing lines than in a straight line. On each side of the entrance a higher-growing plant is planted to accentuate the doorway. Living Area The "garden living" area is where the family lives. Usually it is at the rear of the house, close to the kitchen door, for convenience. Planned shrubs and at least one shade tree can be arranged to provide "privacy" and coolness in the hot summer months. In the garden living room the home owner can indulge his wants with roses, camellias or any other plants that will grow well in his sop and climate. Since, this area is designed for living, it can be decorated with any of the iovely plants found at nurseries. Nurseymen can advise what will best thrive, what plants to use to screen off the area, and give other valuable "tips" that will save time and money. The third-area is the "working" area, where fruits fof your choice, berries and other plants may be grown. WASH NEW ROLLER Before using a new paint roller, Wash with warm water and soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove suds, lint and dust. Dry completely for use with oil base paints. STORING BRUSHES Wrap paint brushes in stiff paper immediately after cleaning. Crease paper over at the end to maintain a sharp edye on the bristle, and tie. SERVICE NEWS - . T . ' Army PFC Richard A. Kun&| son of Mr. and Mrs. 'Earl L.
