"Mortgage" was once a lfcss popular one -- because lump-sum repayment was a condition difficult for many families to meet. The modern mortgage arrangement offered by American banks like ours permits gradual repayment, of principal and interest, in instalments. Today, more and more Americans are buying homes because "mortgage" -- at least the land our bank arranges--now means simply "a convenient, economical means of attaining ownership.
