This maintenance check requires very little special skill and no special tools. Take off the shroud or motor cover, remove the spark plug connectors and the spark plugs. Check the plugs for pitted or carbonized areas and cracked or worn insulators. If they are comparatively new you may regap them at .030 inches and replace them. If they., have quite a few hours,'it is best to put in new plugs. Also replace cracked or worn rubber insulators. Remove the carburetor sediment bowl and clean it, along with its filter. Check the fuel line for cracks and leaks and replace it if it shows any signs of damage. In order to insure smooth operation of your throttle and g e a r s h i f t , engineers suggest that all moving parts between the throttle, carburetor and magneto should be thoroughly lubricated. Replace badly worn linkage. Fill grease fittings on the pivot shaft and keep them lubricated all year. A thorough inspection of the entire lower unit is also recom mended. Drain the fluid from the gear housing and refill with the proper lubricant. Inspect the drive pin on the propeller shaft for wear and replace it if necessary. Also, if your propeller shows signs of nicks ot bumps, you will get much better performance if you take it to your dealer and have it repitched. If any gasoline was left in your portable tank last fall, there is a possibility gum deposits may have formed in the tank. Be sure of getting this removed by taking off the filler-cap casting and mechanism and scrub the gum loose with acetone or lacquer thinner. Wash the tank out with clean gasoline and dry thoroughly.
