"Suzy", as she is affectionately called, returned to play but came in shortly after and complained of feeling ill. Her mother followed hfer to the bathroom where she found the child unconscious. She was rushed to McHenry hospital by her mother and gteat-uncle, Charles Schroeder, Where she remained unconscious for about four hours. About 10 p.m., the\physicians warned of serious brain damand it was feared that the one would require brain surgery at another hospital Shortly afterwards, she begr.n responding to treatment ant' recovered consciousness. Father Harold was summoned from a meeting in town. As of Monday morning, she was reported to be in fair condition and ate well though she*. Was still running a temperature, She was scheduled to be hospitalized for three or four days. Word of Suzy's accident circulated quickly and the prayers of every adult and child were with her during the dark hours. Their reception for about fifty guests was held at the bride's home where champagne and a buffet added to the festivities. After a short honeymoon jaunt the young couple will reside in the bride's home on Park View. May their union receive every blessing also. Gals Will Meet Tonight Members of the Ladies of the Lake will meet in the beachhouse tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. After several-important matters of business are discussed the women will enjoy ; a social hour with coffee and j "tasty pfcstry". ENROLLS IN COLLEGE Robert Bruce, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bruce, Sr., Wonder Lake, has been accepted at Carthage college and will enter as a freshman in the fall of 1961. Bruce graduated from McHenry Community high school, where he was active in baseball, golf, wrestling, the school paper and the school yearbook. His intended major at Carthage College- is chemistry. ... POST 491 by Mary Eiiwpar There were ninty-seven delegates and twenty-four guests present at the recent 11th district junior conference held at the American Legion home- in McHenry. Alter the opening c e r e m o n i e s , d i s t i n g u i s h e d guests, Ruth Durham, 11th district director, Emily Cowlin, junior chairman, 2nd division, and Marion Cannon, McHenry county president, were introduced. The junior delegates were welcomed by McHenry President Marie Howe, Commander George Mrachek, and Senior Vice-Commander Roy Homo. Greetings from the city of McHenry were extended by Mayor Donald Doherty. Awards for the many contests held in the district were presented. Among these were the Pah American jlbll dressing contest which was ' won by Eileen Homo and the Statue of Liberty scrapbook contest won by Mary Pat Mrachek, both of McHenry unit. Joliet' received an award for naming the burro. The name chosen was "Sparky". This buiro will be presented to ihe Downey nursery, along* with money collected by the juniors during the past year, at the state Convention held at Champaign in June. Election of officers for the 11th district juniors was held and Janet Austin of Harwood Post, Joliet, was elected to serve as president. Eileen Homo was eleetect to second vicechairman for the department of Illinois. The McHenry American Legion auxiliary will hold their next meeting May 15. There will be a pot-luck supper served at 6:30 in honor of our Gold Star members. Gold Star C h a i r m a n I l a v e r n e Q r e g o r y will have the following member's on her committee: Theresa Cairns, Sylvia Cooper, Myra Muifcay, Sue Wirfs, Bea Newkirk, Rita Zimny, and Marilyn Milter. W6 will also hold memorial services for our members who haye passed away this year. Please try to attend this most important meeting. Plan For Poppy Day The American Legion auxiliary announced today that 1961 Poppy Day will be observed here May 26 and 27. Auxiliary Poppy Chairman Mrs. Alyce Brda said the annual observance is held to honor the more tjian 500,000 Americans who died, and the nearly 1,000,000 Americans who were wounded, in both World Wars and the Korean conflict. "Memorial poppies, made by disabled veterans of this country's past three wars, will be worn both as a memorial to our war dead, and as a tribute to the disabled," Mrs. Brda said. The American Legion auxiliary said Poppy Day has one basic purposed to provide a personal means of honoring the nation's war dead. Volunteer worfters from the auxiliary and other groups have donated their time to hold this annua! program. Driver Licenses Of Nine Suspended The office of Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier has announced, the suspension of the driver licenses of Richard Berry, Roger DeSantis, Bunnell Knutson and William &iley of Crystal Lake; Harvey Biggers of Wonder Lake; Donald Hall of Huntley; Norman Johnson of Woodstock, Victorio Poco and Thomas H. Schaffer of McHenry, all for three offenses. Probationary permits have been granted to Donald Collins of Crystal Lake and Donald Hubbs of Marengo.
