Foiir THE MCHENRY PLAtNDEALER Thursday. Jnn»'8. 1S1 SO I HEAR... >> Uncle Sam's mail is wonderfbl. One delivery brings us a necktie with an envelope and please send a buck and a quarter for a good cause. , Another brings a box of greeting cards and please send a buck to help another very worthy cause. Another letter tells us they c'An teach us how to read. Another says they can teach us how to overcome that nervous feeling when we stand up to speak before a crowd. Still another says they can teach us how to write. Now, we're getting someplace. Wonder how our name got on all those mailing lists. It isn't that we get all these offers in one mail. No. They spread 'em out. Those people who wanted to teach us to play the piano in six easy lessons were at it again, but must have given up. They couldn't get us in tune. /One outfit wanied to show liS how to get in the business ofc raising mushrooms. Bet we would have wound up with a backyard full of toadstools. But, those fellows who have a" plan for us to make big money fast were always inter-: esting 'til one day we got to wondering why they were telling us their secret and why they didn't just go ahead and make it big for themselves in stead of writing letters all over the country. McHenry playing Cary-Grove "at Cary. McHenry roster consists cf the following boys: John Corso, Bill DeCicpo, Rex Hester, Ray Franklin, Bob Fletcher. Harry May, Dick Himpelman, John Rourke, Paul Morenz, Vern Petersen, Dave Klapperich, Ted Freund, Bob Harris, John Hiller, Lloyd Smith and Al Kempfer. Paul Morenz opened the season by pitching a no-hitter. He faced 28 batters in 7 innings. This is the second no-hitter the local legion team has had as they finished against Algonquin last year with a no-hitter. Pitcher Vern Petersen at that time faced 27 batters. Why not come out and watch some of these games? The boys have the spirit and talent, all they need is someone in the bleachers. Baseball takes team work, but each game a different boy makes an outstanding contribution either in the field or at bat. He gets praise from his team mates. Why can't we hear something from the stands? Dick Doherty of the Owls and Tim Freund. of the Cardinals were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation -six innings. Little League rules permit a pitcher to pitch not more than six innings per week so John Anderson, who pitched two perfect innings for the Cardinals, got the win when Terry Rogers doubled home two runs in the eighth. Tom Blair gave up thirteen hits to the Eagles but was tough with men on base as the Orioles won 5-2. Neal Gute gave the Cardinals their third well-pitched game in a row as he shut out the Eagles 2-0. Paul Adams' grand slam homer was the big blow as the Orioles out-hustled the Owls in gaining a 6-4 win. Kit Carstens pitched the Bluebirds to a 3-1 win as the Falcons lost their first game of the year. Minor League The Owls and Cardinals are tied for first place after last weekend's action when the Owls nipped the Redbirds 12- 11. The Eagles trimmed the Orioles 8-4. The Cardinals came from behind to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge the Eagles 9-8 in a very well played game. The Owls beat the Orioles 13-7. COURT BRIEFS The following cases were heard in J.P. court the past week. Wayne Bares of Rt. 9, McHenry, was fined $15 on May 31 for driving 48 miles an hour in a 30-mile zone.
