The Cardinals dropped their season opener but now have won four in a row with their pitching staff allowing only two runs in four games. • In the weekend's other game, three straiiilphits by the Owl.- in the bottom of the sixth gave Dick Doherty a hard earned 4-3 win over Bob Guenveur and the Falcons. Richie Meyers led all hitters with three safe blows as neither team substituted. Jim Keevil's three bagger led to the Owl's first two runs. If you're boating on a lake filled with weed beds, we suggest that you stop periodically and clear your propeller completely of weeds by reversing the motor and accelerating briefly. You'll be able to tell if there are weeds on your propeller because N the motor will vibrate excessively when you accelerate. Such an investment was made in Polk county. Iowa, when State Highway Commissioner J. W. Statton a year ago ordered distribution of a limited number of special reflective license plates to determine their value in preventing accidents. These plates are made with a material thnt glows brightly in the beams of automobile headlights at night and can be seen from as far away as 2.500 feet. Even if a car is parked on a road shoulder with its taillights out at night, the license plates help make it visible to cars approaching from the rear. The ^ear tnd report of the Polk county experiment indicated the "safety" license plates were so effective in preventing rear-end collisions at night that citizens of the county saved more than $400,000 that normally would have been the sosts of these accidcnls. The plates were particularlyeffective in reducing the number of rear-end collisions involving parked or stalled cars at night. So successful was the Polk county test that Commissionei Statton has recommended the adoption of reflective license plates by the entire state. It's an idea that might be considered by public officials in other states. REVOKE DRIVER LICENSES OF TWO THIS PAST WEEK The state has announced the revocation of the driver license of Fred Westphal of Crystal Lake and Harold E. White of Fox Lake for driving while intoxicated. The licenses of ten others have been suspended for three offenses. They are Leslie Beaurline and John Wenzel of Cary; John M. Boiigh and William Fischer of McHenry; Samuel Fry of Island Lake; Robert Gavers of Woodstock; Donald Hayes of McCullom Lake; Leslie Hansen of Algonquin; Phillip Sineni of Wonder Lake and Thomas Weinmann of Spring Grove. Probationary permits have been issued to Harvey Biggers of Wonder Lake and to Victorio Poco of Rt. 2, McHenry. DISPLAYS PAINTINGS Jerome E. Olsen, J915 W. Oak Leaf diive, McHenry, will exhibit his paintings at the fifth annual Edens Plaza arts and crafts fair on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25.
