The fishing contest will be held on June 29 at '6:30 p.m. at the channel behind the barn. Bring a bamboo pole and your family. A prize wip be given to the boy who catjches the biggest fish and the most. July 5 is the date for the trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. The den mothers wifi be in contact with the bojfc parents to see how many boys going and how many car's will be needed. „ The pack meeting held^on June 14 was the last one until September. If you know of any boy who will be eight by September be sure to tell him abo^lt scouting. Anniversaries Congratulations to Gert and Ray Snell who will be married 47 years on June 23. It is also Gert's birthday. Happy anniversary to Roy and McGee Sluga on June 25. On June 28, Bill and Marie Schlick will celebrate another yeftr of wedded bliss. Many happy returns of the day to Kay and Wally Sielisch who will be married 21 years on June 29. St. John's The Highlanders who are members of St. John's church were very sad to learn their beloved assistant pastor Father Anger has been transferred from the parish. The Highlanders will miss him very much. Their best wishes go with him. T"he girls who attended the Blessed Virgin sodality meeting on June 13 were Kay Sielisch, Dorothy Orlowski, Betty Sandelin, Marilyn Van- Zevern, Rosemary Thelen and Mary Madock. guest of honor at a baby shower given for her on June 12 at the home of Janice Janqliart. Hostesses for the evening besides Jan were Doris Hanson, Tina O'Malley and Lilly Novseth. Bringing gifts for the, Lemmons' new daughter were Pat Pederson, Polly Islers, Elaine Galetka, Mrs. Bob Van- Zever, Barb Sisk, Bev« Lewandowski, Mary Madock, La- Verne Madock, Hazel Morley, Marilyn VanZevei'n and Mrs. Hadock. Dance Recital A dance recital was held on June 14 at McHenry high school. The young ladies from the Highlands displaying their talents were Laura Gregg, Cheryl Dowd, Julie VanZevern, Patti Lewandowski and Kathy Mason. Funerals Marge and Bill Moreth attended the funeral of their three year old grand nephew last Thursday in Batavia. The young lad, Ralph Hill, met death by drowning. Wally Sielisch attended the funeral of his long time friend, Roy Kresen, of Chicago June 14. Roy died of a heart attack on June 11. Wally and Roy have worked together for 20 years. News of Your Neighbors Herb Lindemann spent last week in St. Theresa hospital. He was stricken while visiting in Chicago. After returning home he was taken to the hospital by John Weingart. The Lindemanns' daughter, Marilyn, was in from Lansing to keep Lorraine company. Lorraine was unable to attend the luncheon in Geneva last week because of her husband's illness. Happy birthday to Ann Zeman on June 25. Jay and Mary Story were busy last week entertaining members of their family. Their daughter, Rose Morton, and family were out for five days and Mary's mother, brother and father were out for a day and a half. Happy birthday to Dot Rodarmel on June 30. Thelma and Bill Hensley and sons spent last week visiting relatives in Kentucky. Cards were flying last Friday at the home of Ann Szyplebaum. In on the bidding were Meryl Fletcher, Toots Spankuch, Dee Gregg, Pat Jackson, Marie Schlick and Audrey Misavice. Happy birthday to Robby Jackson who will celebrate his sixth birthday on June 23 with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Krumwiede are spending a few days in Hancock, Wis. Miss Herman spent a few days in her home in the Highlands lasl week. Miss Herman is a registered nurse at Mount Sinai hospital in Chicago. Bob and Marilyn VanZevern and oons, Mark and Kirk, spent a busy weekend in Chicago. They went to an amusement park among other things. Jamie Malek spent last week at her grandparents' home in Brookfield. The senior Maleks enjoyed showing their' granddaughter a good time. Joe a nt>d Elizabeth Hanisch and son, George, spent last Saturday in Chicago visiting Joe's parents. Dud and Dee Gregg were pleased with a visit from Dud's brother, Captain Robert Gregg, and family from Montgomery, Ala. Pat and Ron Jackson spent father's day visiting Ron's parents at their summer home in Wauconda. I was sorry to hear that Rose Farwell is in McHenry hospital suffering from virus pneumonia. Jim Malek's aunt Helen returned to Brookfield last Sunday. Jane and Jim enjoyed her visit. Presented with Gift The Blessed Virgin sodality and the Holy Name society presented Father Anger with a transistor radio as their farewell gift. He received it on June 14 at the Holy Name meeting. Complaint Department I have received calls from persons annoyed by the dogs roaming on the beaches and going into the water. If the owners of these dogs don't care enough to keep their pets at home then I would suggest you call Don Morin or Dick Far- \yell and have the animals picked up. That's It For another busy week. Thanks again to you who each week give me the news. YOUTH CAMPING Youth group camping in Illinois state parks will be available to approximately 10,000 young people this summer. Six camps in four parks offer the finest of outdoor living to Boy and Girl Scouts, church groups and underprivileged children. Ramping periods of one and two weeks from June through August are available at camps in Dixon Springs near Golconda, Giant City south of Carbondale, Lincoln's New Salem near Petersburg and Pere Marquette Conservation Area near £rafton. Weekends will be available before and after this period. Reservations for the regular period may be made with the Division of Parks and Memorials, 100 State Office Building, Springfield, and during the off season with park custodians. There is a charge of 25 cents per person a litght. V.F.W. Auxiliary By Connie Tmtonias Betty Clark The Department convention, held at Rockford, was attended by auxiliary President Flo Svoboda and Delegates Marge Moreth, Wilma Aylward and Daisy Smith. Our auxiliary was commended on their fine community service work for the past year, having come in seventh in the state of Illinois. The girls were also pleased to learn that our Americanism report, in scrapbook form, was being sumitted for judging at the national convention" to be held in Miami in August. This is the first time an Americanism scrapbook has been submitted from the state of Illinois. W*e all know that the community service and Americ a n i s m p r o j e c t s are very worthwhile and it is heartening to have such recognition given to us. Since the May 22 meeting, flags were presented to the Lilymoor auxiliary to the Lilymoor association, and to Boy Scout Troop, No. 151. The auxiliary has recently, purchased an additional folding wheelchair and hospital bed mattress and covers. As you know, this equipment is available for use by any, person needing such equipment. Poppy Chairman Daisy Smith received a citation for the fine job she did on the sale of poppies this year. The public card party and luncheon date, June 29, is drawing near. Members are asked to keep this date in mind as baked goods and volunteers for working will be needed. You can also help by selling your friends tickets and filling one or more tables.
