Pig* Four THE McHENBY PLAINDEALER Jgu €<lh£. U/a&AhJ SO I HEAR ... McHenry has settled down after a busy week of celebrating its 125th birthday and Fi>- esta Day. Those in charge worried plenty about the rains that never came. We figured on Sunday the farmers were praying for rain, and the Fiesta gang praying agin' it. Must be -the farmers were outnumbered. Legion Division Teams Play At Woodstock Park We saw the Johnsburg Tigers bump up against a classy pitching performance in the state tournament at Elgin last Thursday night and lose their first game. Dick Hiller got the lone Tiger hit and he wis robbed of another when" the shortstop was in the right spot to snare a real scorching drive. Ed Mack was on the mound for Johnsburg, sacrificing control when he reared back and put everything he had on every pitch. Lloyd Freund told us to writ until next year, then added that he is afraid the years are running out on him. We vis:ted with fans from Elgin who thought the rukb should change to prevent teams from importing players. Teams would have to fila a list of team members at an early date and have the accuracy verified by league officials. We, too. would go for the plan, but think the tournament would have to spread out to give the limited pitching staffs a chance for rest between games. Next Sunday wl" mark the end of the regular schedule in the county league and playoffs will follow. Ijf^yard comes while Johnsburg travels to Richmond. From what we have seen, Johnsburg has had a lot of snappy third base play bj' Leon Schmitt. The first person we saw when we entered the Elgin park was John Av'ward. a real baseball fan of many years. You wouldn't believe it! This new Plaindealer office has a new desk and chair (Yep. Now they let us sit down.) in a corner up front with a sign "SPORTS EDITOR". Brenda couldn't wait for us to get in so phoned to "invite" us to show up right now. It's real nice, but we hardly know how to act. Fiesta week must have been too much for us. We went to bed real tired Sunday night and dreamed a dream so queer. We had lunch with "Ike" Eisenhower! As our Dad used to say "Must be some d-- thing I et." Daily Pinups Experience is the extra curriculum wherein you learn by doing or being done. When yru can juggle a hot potato until it becomes a cnld issue you automatically become a diplomatic genius.
