V.F.W. at 8 p.m. McffiNRY COUNTY BASEBALL LEAGUE McHenry's Little League All-Stars won a hard fought ! battle over the Countiy Little i League All-Stars in their first game of tournament play in Elgin last Saturday. Bob Schaefer of McHenry and Jim LaPraise of Country were locked in a tight pitchers duel until McHenry broke loose in the fifth inning with two runs, the other run coming in the sixth. McHenry's defense played errorless ball behind Schaefer who had perfect control allowing only four scattered hits. Hitting stars of the game were Tim Freund with a single, Gerry Glosson and Bob Schaefer with doubles, and Denny Jackson with a triple. RHE McHenry Little League 3 4 0 County Little League 0 4 2 In the second game, McHenry's Little Leaguers lost a heartbreaker, 7 to 4 to the Elgin National Little League All-Stars last Monday after leading in the game 4 to 0 in the top of the fifth inning. Elgin's big blow that inning was a pinch-hit home run by Morgan with two men on base. McHenry scored two runs in the second on a walk to Paul Adams followed by a home run by Gerry Glosson. They scored two more runs in the third on Bob Schaefer's home run after Kit Carstens had singled. Ceremonies were held after the game awarding each Elgin player and coaches with certificates. Elgin now goes to the quarter finals held in Woodstock. Just a few more words to say what a fine job Art Jackson and Leon Schmitt did managing and coaching the boys. They gave freely of their time aqd had the boys hustling all the way. Now all we can say is like A1 Lopez, "Wait'll next year". 200 members and guests enjoyed perfect weather, food and lots of prizes on Hookey Day, July 19. The trial will consist of a puppy stake, derby stake, all age stake, and open all age stake. The open all age stake will be open to all pointing «nri retriever breeds. The final standings showed the Falcons edging the Owls by one game. An interesting observation is that the second place Owls lost five games during the season and each loss was at the hands of a different team. Minor League The Owls beat the Orioles but lost to the Eagles while thfc Cardinals won two close games from me Orioles.
