Thursday, August 3. 1961 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Page Thirteen McCullom Lake VILLAGE BOARD NAMES BILL REID AS POLICE CHIEF Eve Levesque A recommendation from police commissioner Art Nelson was forthcoming at the last meeting of the village board, Monday, July 24. that Bill Reid, an officer on the local force be advanced to the position of chief of police. The commission did not make the proposal without undue consideration. - They investigated all tssible candidates and inter- ?wed many of our residents as to their choice. When the motion was made by Bill Creutz to accept Mr. Reid, the second was made by Roger Kinscy. All trustees voted aye with the exception of Robert Zahn who whs abseny. The effective date of Mr. Reid's appointment was August 1. 1961. £ The village board "played to a full house" with just abou! every seat in the beachhou.sf occupied.- Two residents of the village voiced complaints and these were taken under advisement by the board. The results of ball game are not important (it's only an exduse for a good time) but the fine afternoon enjoyed makes the headlines. Population Increase One more person has been added to the Bill Walter family of Orchard Drive when Bill's mother, Emily, arrived to make her home with them. Shortly after she made the move, the poor woman fell and broke her wrist which was promptly, put in a cast. However, she is coming along just fine now. The quartet had a grand time indulging in the local scenery and the trip back was of only two and one half hours duration. Complications on the way up caused the trouble. Dorie is planning on a return trip with her woiking cohorts in the near ftuure. Kerner's Committee on U n e m p l o y m e n t , j o i n t l y w i t h the Illinois Department of Labor, will conduct through the Illinois State E m p 1 o y m o nl Service and the Division of Unemployment Compensation offices throughout the state, local laboi surveys during the five-week period July 31 through Sept. 1, of workers seeking permanent, full-time employment. These surveys are being made to determine what kinds of workers are seeking permanent full-time jobs. The Governor's Committee on Unemployment and the Illinois Department of Labor Will use the findings to plan programs to alleviate unen^pl'iyment. The results also will be used to plan ways to train workers in new occupational skills required by industry today, and to retrain workers whose skills have been made obsolete by automation. As a result of this survey it will also be possible to present to industry a detailed picture of the composition of the available labor foive in each local area. This will be useful in attracting new industry to these areas. The Committee on Unemployment appointed by Gov. Kerner is headed by Frank II. Cassell, director of {personnel administration. Inland Steel company, and consists of thirty- seven membei'S representin*; industry, labor, government, civic and 1 educational groups.
