Anonymous TIGERS TROUNCE SHAMROCKS 14-5 IN PLAYOFF GAME Last Sunday the Johnsburg Tigers defeated the McHenry Shamrocks 14-5 behind the pitching of Gene Jaskot. This was the first game of a best of three playoff. Ray Bujak led the Shamrocks hitting attack with three hits. Roger Benson had two hits. Coach Tom Parsley, athletic director at the county-wide parochial high school, today announced the unusual schedule, a card that includes games against teams from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana. The team is ranging in all directions for its grid foes to stimulate interest among fans by bringing tough rivals into the Marian camp. A new school with 1,400 students at Gary, Indiana, for example, has been added to the card. Walhert of Dubuque, Iowa comes to Marian in November -- a four-year-old school with 1,700 students. Marian expects to have over 700 students and will be filled to capacity this fall. "We will have 21 players returning from last years varsity roster. We expect good help from such sophomores as Pete Parker and Ron Reckamp. So we should line up strong foes to give our team a good test and to challenge them to do their best." Play Woodstock High The card is also noteworthy in that it matches the Hurricanes against Woodstock Community high school, first gridiron clash between the two Woodstock-based schools. This will be the opening game for both schools, set at present for Friday, September 15 on the WCHS gridiron. The schedule does include two familiar foes, teams that were longtime rivals of St. Mary's of Woodstock before the Irish bowed in favor of Marian. The familiar schools are Immaculate Conception of Elmhurst and St. Edward of Elgin. Encouraging Parsley, former Crystal Lake star, to seek a strong schedule is the return of veteran quarterbacks Mike Purvey and Bill Riley. Parsley frankly sees problems at only one position -- the ends. Graduation claimed three ends and he tentatively plans to shift; Ed Crowley, fleet-footed endj to halfback.
