Ptigi Fdur THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, September7, 1981 SO I HEAR ... Summer has been going downhill fast, but little did we think it would be so blamed hot at the bottom of the hill. All day Sunday we had the urge to clobber those weather forecasters who told us the temperature would be in the high 70's. It's getting so you can't believe a word you hear even when you want to. JAYCEE JUNIOR BOWLING PROGRAM WILL OPEN SOON McHenry Jaycee President Harry Cygan has announced that Ray Schmitt has accepted the general chairmanship of the 1961 and 1962 season for the Jaycee junior bowling tournament to be held at the Mc- Henry Recreation Bowling Lanes, located at 1216 North River road, McHenry, at the east end of the old Fox River bridge. J a y c e e P r e s i d e n t C y g a n states that with the experience Chairman Ray Schmitt has gained from last year's bowling tournament that this year's junior bowling should be another outstanding youth program. This year's bowling will start the first Saturday in October at 11 a.m., and all the children in the McHenry school district between the ages of 9 and 18 years old are invited to enter the tournament. The Jaycee junior bowling is a program sponsored not only by local Jaycee chapters but is a state and national program. There is a coupon on the sports page of this issue that, the children may clip and fill' out and send to Jaycee Bowling at 1216 No. River Road, McHenry, 111. Every week until the tournament starts there will be more news. Mr. Schmitt asks that the children either mail or bring the coupons in as soon as possible so that an exact count can be made. The Jaycees also invite the parents to stop at the bowling lanes to see the kids in action. Ray Schmitt states that starting to bowl at a young age will make more champion bowlers. Recalling the pleasures of the passing summer, the officers and managers of the McHenry Pony League are mindful of the benevolence of the many persons who helped to make the season such a tremendous success. Seven years ago the McHenry Pony League proudly accepted the baseball diamond in the rear of the McHenry Post 4600 V.F.W. property, made p o s s i b l e t h r o u g h t h e e f forts of the members of that o r g a n i z a t i o n . H o w e v e r , t h e V.F.W. did not stop with the presentation of the ball park in helping out the Pony League. They have repeatedly during the intervening years helped the league in many ways. This past season, as further contribution to the McHenry Pony League, this fine organization financed buses on the two Pony League District playoffs. Ever mindful of the wear and tear on equipment, they contributed 3 dozen balls and a dozen bats to the league. To top all of this, their financial assistance helped the league to wind up the season without the .usual deficit. Such an organization is to be highly corn mended for its many contribu tions to the youth of this community. Of equal importance was th' contribution of the parents ir supporting of the league by their financial as well as moral help in attending the games. They exemplify the type of spirit of fun, fellowship and cooperation that strengthen our league's slogan -- Protect Our Nation's Youth.
