A Little League News kittle reminder: Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at the community house there will be a mother vs. son ball game. Every mother is welcome to come'out and play. So come on moms, let's show our sons we can do it. Also on Sept. 29 at the community house there will be a Little League meeting at 7:30 p.m. for nominations and elecofficers for this coming fiscal year. The Little League will hold •} their second annual dance Oct. 7 at the V.F.W. hall. Tickets are available through all manf agers and coaches and their families. Birthday Doings Dianne Krater. daughter of ' Joan and Bill, was 9 years old on Sept. 6. Mom and dad took Dianne out to dinner and had a pretty birthday cake for her at the restaurant which I'm sure she enjoyed. Ray Barle had a birthday Saturday, Sept. 9. He celebrated it in the home of his mother, Mrs. Barle, who lives in Chicago. Others who had a piece of birthday cake were his wife, Mary, and children, aunts and uncles. Belated happy birthday, Ray! Saturday, Sept. 9, was the birthday of Audrey Koczor and she had a lawn party for her guests who were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Buikema, Bob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Koczor, Audrey's sister, Mrs. Beverly Shill, and children, Donna and Kathy, Jessie and Bob Matthews, Ray and Donna Rode. Belated wishes! Russell Rode who was ten years old Sunday, Sept. 10, celebrated his birthday on Monday, Sept. 11. The party was held after school with guests Jack Cuevas, Bobby Matthews, Cameron and Frosty Viita and brother, Bobby Rode. Cake, ice cream, soda and plenty of games were enjoyed. Trip Frank and Arlene Bartos took a little jaunt to Door County in Wisconsin last weekend. They went sight seeing in some of the fishing ports along the bay and to Peninsula State Park. On the way back they stopped off to see Holy Hill which is a beautiful sight to see. Mai and Barbara Malinowski and daughter, Rita Louise, went to Grand Rapids over the Labor Day weekend, and enjoyed themselves sightseeing. Mai did a little fishing. They went to visit Mai's brothers while they were there and had a nice family get-together. kiewicz was treating. The plane was from the Woodstock Flying Club and the pilot was Roy Monroe of McHenry. The boys went up three at a time and enjoyed picking out their own houses from the air, also touring over the Chain-of-Lakes. Bet there will be a few future pilots from this experience. Manager's Treat Joe Prazak, manager of the Tigers, had a picnic for the boys on his team. Those attending were Paul Tiniman, Ron Miller, Ken ana Don Prazak, Kevin Druml, Pinky Ozog, Mike Koch, Bobby Dietz, Stosh Pankiewicz, Jackie Laursen, Stu Tininin, Tommy Prevast, and guests, Elmer, Ed, Sammy and Allan Dentro. Mrs. Gayle Laursen, Mrs. Jean Czajkowski and Agnes Prazak prepared a delicious assortment of food? and they all had a wonderful time. Family Reunion Ken and Bernice Boyce held a family reunion at their home last week. They were Berniece's relatives and they numbered about forty-two people, but this was not all of them. Quite a few were unable to attend. That's some family, huh? Visitors Bill and Lyda Radisch had some company on Labor Day weekend. They were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riley and children, Susan, Carl, Jr. and Sharon, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Truppo and son, James, Mrs. Marjorie Lehmann and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lorenz. Home on Leave Max and Emma Doering of 1612 North North avenue were very happy for the last two weeks because their son, Dennis Doering, was home on furlough after basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Emma had a farewell get-together party for Dennis Thursday evening which was enjoyed by all attending. Dennis left, last Saturday, Sept. 3 for Travis Air Base in California where he will lie stationed until further notice. He is a June graduate from McHenry high school. Visiting Delores and Jerry Rogers and family spent Sunday, Sept. 10, in Elmhurst attending a family picnic. About a hundred of Delores' relatives were there and everyone had a good time. Welcome "New Neighbors" Welcome to our new neighbors Judy and Richard Polinski of 4911 Home avenue and their two children, Richard, 2V» years old and Mary Lynn, 7 months old who have been residents of our fair subdivision for one month. Before moving to Lakeland Park they were residents of McCullom Lake. Both attended McHenry high school. Richard works for a firm in Deerfield and his hobby is bowling and Judy has no special interests but keeping house for Richard and her children, and just patiently waiting the third addition who will be born in January. Bazaar Nov. 4 is the date of the long awaited and planned Women's club Bazaar. It will be held in the community house. ARLINGTON TO OBSERVE 125TH YEAR OCT. 1-7 Plane Ride The players, managers and coaches of the Little League "Tigers" team were treated last Wednesday, Sept. 2, to an airplane ride. Stanley Pan- "125 Years of Progress" will be celebrated in Arlington Heights, Oct. 1 through 7, when that northwest suburb observes the 125th anniversary of its founding. More than half a million people are expected to attend the week long festivities which get under way Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, with a combined antique car exhibit and kiddiepet parade, according to Joseph Schneller, general chairman. The climax will be reached the following Saturday wit hi a gigantic morning parade Beaded by "Miss Arlington Heights" and a grand ball in the evening. Other highlights of the celebration include a beauty contest, an historical pageant, square dancing, a baby popularity contest and the annual homecoming football game, parade and dance of Arlington Heights high school. ATHLETIC CLUB WILL MEET AT BRUNKE HOME Terry Coates With the evenings getting shorter the Shores Social and Athletic Club will hold the September meeting on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the home of Art Brunke, 3116 Miller at eight p.m. The fall and winter plans for the club's activities will be on the agenda. Beach Barbecue Party On Saturday, Sept. 2 the Shores Social and Athletic Club had a barbecue party at the beach. Barbecued ribs were the main course served with baked potatoes and salad as well as hot dogs for the kiddies. At this affair the men did the cooking and serving making good use of the barbecue grill built at the beach this summer. A good crowd attended and the affair was a success, both financially and otherwise, as a good time was had by all attending. Circle Meeting The McHenry Methodist church circle held its meeting at the home of Mrs. Charles MacCallum of 3208 Miller in McHenry Shores, Tuesday, Sept. 5. Vacationers Irene and Trent Middlekauff spent ten days up in Minnesota. It was a combined business and pleasure trip. They stopped in Minneapolis for a few days and then went on to Hickory Lodge m Crosby, Minn., for some fishing. Irene said they had a wonderful time. Doris and Fred Wetzel and their family spent a week visiting Dori's sister and brother- in-law, Jeanne and Ray Hauck, in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Ruemelin, Dori's father, had been visiting there for a month and he came back with the Wetzels to the Shores. Newcomer to the "Shores" Dianne and Ronald Clark of 3205 Kinley welcomed a little stranger on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at McHenry hospital. Little Darcy weighed in at 7 lbs., 2 ozs., and measured twenty inches. Birl hday Parties On Sunday, Sept. 3, little Billy Verstege celebrated his third birthday with his grandmother, Mrs. Sviontek, and his Aunt Bonnie. Also his father's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Verstege. On Monday, Sept. 4, he had another party. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Yarwood and children, from Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Karnuth and sons from Glertview came to help him celebrate. Peggy Moor% celebrated her sixth birthday by going to Dundee to an amusement center. She had dinner and then went to a movie. Her guest was Debbie Burke. GRASSHOPPER THREAT Defoliation of corn, soybeans and clover by grasshoppers in the northern three-fourths of Illinois is op-{he increase, says Dr. Stevenson Moore III, extension entomologist with the Illinois Natural History Survey and the University of Illinois. "The areas most seriously affected are' those where limited amounts of, rain fell in June and early July when this year's broods of grasshoppers were emerging," Dr. Moore explains.
