Sailfish The first bowling scores of the season were turned in this week and now we know fall can't be far away. Like the first robin in the spring, certain signs come along each season to let us ' know, that we must prepare for changes in our sports page , -- or pages if growth con tinues. Local baseball and Softball have been packed away for another year, but the whirlwind finish in the big leagues is. stJll .coming. , • Of course, the Yanks wore down the opposition and are now concerned about home run records. MCHS WARRIORS MEET ANTIOCH HERE FRIDAY Sequoils To Bring Eleven Lettermen To McCracken Field We plan to watch those maulers swing big bats-against our favorite White Sox on Thursday afternoon. Our better half says we are more excited than a kid going to his first circus. When we can't get a thrill out of a ball game -- Well, that'll be the day! Ernie Useman, rormer MCHS athlete and now an employee of the Plaindealer, is going to join our sports writers' fraternity and will cover our high school football games starting Friday night. Ernie played the game and has had journalism schooling. He is eager to follow the progress of his alma mater and we are more than a little bit pleased to have him with us. While Ernie covers the game, we will try to pick up some sidelights of interest. We also hope to have more pictures for our sports page as time moves along. Antioch's football team will be here Friday night for the first test of strength of Coach Mandli's squad. Sailfish caught by: Louis De- Francisco, 162 W. Joyce avenue, McHenry, 111. Weight, 35 lbs. Length, 6 feet 6 inches, at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The Soph teams meet at 6.15 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity game. In looking over the local varsity squad, we note 23 seniors and 12 juniors listed. Vern Petersen at 6'3" is the tallest man on the squad. Makes us wonder if we won't run into some tall ends to give us trouble. Our team may also be outweighed by several teams, but there- seems to be plenty of huskiness on the squad to take care of any situation. We have the following report on the freshmen: "McHenry Freshmen had one of. their largest turnouts in a number of years as 42 boys have completed the first two weeks of practice. Coaches Fulton and Hendricks are pleased with their charges as there are a number of boys with excellent size in the group, not to mention the fact that at least 10 - of the boys are wearing size 12% shoes."
