OPENS SEASON Parents, Faculty Get Acquainted, Discuss Courses Thursday evening at 8:15 o'clock was another first for McHenry. The newly organized high school P.T.A. had its first meeting in the high school cafeteria. Many months of planning and discussion preceded the formation of this organization, which is a branch of the national and state P.T.A. groups. The purpose of this association is "educational, and shall be non-commercial, non-sectarian and non-partisan. This association shall not seek to direct the administrative activities of the school nor to control its policies, but may cooperate with organizations and agencies active in child welfare", as stated in the policies of adopted by-laws. Any person who is interested in the welfare of youth and will uphold these by-laws may j become a member upon payment of a small dues. The an- ; nual local portion shall be .80 per capita, the national portion | .05 and the state, .15. j Regular meetings of the organization are held the second Thursday of September, November, January and March. I The December and May meet- I ings are in combination with | the Community P.T.A. I The executive com m i t t e e I consists of the officers of the ! association, the chairmen of the ; standing committees, the prini cipal of the high school or his ! representative and the chair-' j men of the sections. The stu- | dent body may be represented ; in an advisory capacity on the I executive committee by the president of the Student Council and two class representatives elected by the students. Six regular meetings of this executive committee are held during the year. Aims of PTA The objective of the P.T.A. are as follows: 1 To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, church and community; 2, to raise the standards of home life; 3, to secure adequate laws for the protection and care of children and youth; 4, to bring into closer relation the home and school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the training of the child; 5, to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education. In upholding these objectives, the program Thursday night was "get-acquainted night". The new teachers were intro- "duced and then the group was | divided into four classes -- | freshmen, sophomores, juniors j and seniors. The parents then met with the counselor and I teachers of each class. They j gave a brief resume of the j courses they teach and the I work plans for the year. | This was a very interesnng i and informative program. Parents and teachers concluded the evening with refreshments served by the freshman class chairman, Mrs. Arnold Larsen. APPREHEND A.W.O.L. SOLDIER Brian Powers of Rt. 2, Deep j Spring Woods.
