Pag* Fourteen THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, October 5, 1 96? McCullom Lake HAPPY WEEKEND ENDS IN GRIEF FOR SUMMER FAMILY Eve Levesque For Ihe past twenty years, Ella and Dewey Frieke have been enjoying their summer home on North Orchard Drive, near the lake, and had planned to m^e it their permanent address in the spring. There will be no spring for Mrs. Fricke. She passed away in the lovely place in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving her husband, daughter, Lorraine, and son-in-law. Karl Blom. stunned and almost unable to comprehend what had happened. The happy foursome journeyed out from Their respective homes for a pleasant weekend. No celebrations were on the docket,,and no company was oxpected. OH Saturday evening, they stopped in for a short visit with good friends,. Jean and Hugh McDonald, and left early for a quiet evening at their "home away from home". They all retired early and some hours later, Dewey was awakened by Ella's complaints thai she had a funny feeling in her chest. Within minutes she was gone. Aid was solicited from Elma Nelson, who rushed next door, but in spite of the combined efforts of all of them, Ella was beyond help. An ambulance was summoned and the stricken woman was rushed to McHenry hospital where the fatal announcement was made. Services were held in Chicago on Wednesday with interment at Acacia cemetery. Further details appear elsewhere in the Plaindealer. At a time like this, words seem so pitifully inadequate, but those who knew Ella express deepest sympathy to Dewey and Lorraine in these-- their darkest hours. up to 30 per cent of the -total needed. Priority is given to communities who approve tax bonds. The creation of a sanitary district-- advantages and disadvantages. was also defined by Mr. Wilson. The first step apparently for our community is fo engage an engineer who will survey our needs and give an approximation of cost. Financing of the project will follow. Have no fears--you will be thoroughly informed through this medium, every slop of the way. We promise to keep you posted! Request from Road Commissioner Investigation reveals that vacant lots arc being used as dumping grounds. We. who reside in the village on a year round basis are PROUD of our homes and Surroundings. Many residents have spent hours cleaning property which doesn't belong to them, simply to enhance their areas. Doesn't seem fair for others to rid themselves of refuse, cans, and tree clippings on the other "guv's" lot. A special plea for your co-operation comes directly from commissioner of roads, Art Stuhlfeier. Another transgression noted: Please keep the easements clear! The drainage ditches cannot carry off the water if they are plugged. Sure would appreciate a "helping hand" in this mater also. 'Nuff said? down the country lanes and ending up in a feast, should promise a good tim£/for our junior boys and girm That date is Saturday, Ock 7. Disposal Plant Financing Highlights j 'Twas just about a "full house" at the last meeting of the president and trustees on j Monday, Sept. 25, for the dis- j cussion on financing a local , sewage disposal plant. | H. J. Wilson, a representa- j tive of the Wilson Bonding Company, was on hand to present his program and answer questions from villagers. There are various methods for financing including (1) general obligation bonds. (2) revenue bonds, and (3) special assesment. Money can be obtained from the federal government on a "no interest" basis to begin the initial investigation. Under certain conditions, an outright grant of funds can be obtained, Harvest Moon, Hay Racks, and Food Spells Good Time Youngsters who are planning to go "galivanting" in the hay wagons on Saturday night are asked to bring note of permission from parent or guardian and fifty cents to treasurer, Mary Beth Luto, Knollwood Drive, by this evening (Thursday). The young folks plan to have enough kids on board to fill three vehicles. A nice long ride "Tasty Pastry" Party for the Gals All fun and no work (except for the committee!) was the theme of the evening last Thursday night when members of the Ladies of the Lake met in the beachhouse. The large gather'ng numbered twentythree. "K.P. duty" fell on the shoulders of Elizabeth Reiter, M a r t h a S y l t h e a n d M e t a Schroeder •--t hree qualified gals in this department. The "welcome mat" was spread for Harriet McNamara's sister --Mrs. Ida Zablman of Knox, Ind., who will be in the vicinity until next Monday. These two have made the rounds in the past two weeks. "Party time" was a happy event for Grace Kinsey, Alice Gustafson, Marge Stacknick, Ethel Schmidt. Betty Reiter, Ida Zahlman, Sally Olsen and Bobbie Carroll. Election of officers will be held at the next meeting. Thursday, Oct. 12. Columbus crossed the uncharted seas -- you are only asked to journey a few blocks! Most important meeting --hope you will be 1 here. A Conspiracy! Very nice people, Charlotte and Frank Graydon.^ind their own business, are friendly to their neighbors, and have one desire-- to plant tulip bulbs. For several weeks they have been trying to complete this project which will beautify their "leisure" home, but the weather is always "agin" 'em. Maybe this weekend will be Ihe magic one! (They will probably scalp me for this little gem!) Village Officials Guests of the V.F.W. From fifty-seven similiar organizations, the local V.F.W. PREVENTION WSIK October 8-1 2Vi Lb. Invitations from Post Adjutant Dave Hansen were in Monday's mail for Saturday, Oct. 14. A wonderful evening of dining, dancing, and entertainment has been planned and not the least of these will be the "burning of the mortgage". This serves as a notice to alert our president, trustees, clerk, magistrate, treasurer, and chief of police. Wives (and husband), please note; You, too, are invited! The official invitation will be forthcoming at the village board meeting on Monday night. Officials from the fifty-seven other organizations will be present on Fifth District Night at the V.F.W. Receiving Depot for Toys Mrs. John Fox, Maple Hill and West End Drives, has consented to be the receiving station for toys in usable condition, for the benefit of the McHenry Community P.T.A. carnival, which will be held on Oct. 25 at the junior high. This is a brand new feature of this event, and should be very successful, but your generosity is needed. Dolls which have been abandoned by their "mommies", wagons which no longer will hold junior's added inches, games (with all the pieces, please) and any other stuff along these lines will be in great demand. Clean out the toy box, and bring your merchandise to Mrs. Fox, and you will earn the undying gratitude of Delores Leonard who is the chairman of this booth! Hands Off the Raft! A clean-up crew spent many hours on Sunday, getting the beach ready for the winter season, and this included beaching the raft. This expensive piece of equipment, which affords a great deal of pleasure for our younger population is lVioored to a tree. It would behoove every boy and girl who derived recreation from the raft, to admonish our young scamps to resist tampering. Make yourself a committee of one to guard it "with your life"! Any maltreatment of the raft while it is in storage will be dealt with through the proper channels. Those who deserve a deep curlsy for their Sunday efforts are Beach chairman Bob Fernandez, Ole Olsen and his truck, Rog Kinsey, Bonny Kgerstaffer, and sons Derek and Dave; Larry Murray (who devoted his talents to unhooking the electric stove), Larry Larson, Lee Sawdo, A1 Glade, Ed Hammerstein, "Peanuts" Tomasello and Don Parenti. Pays to Advertise! Remember the request for a gas stove which appeared in this same spot a few weeks back? That item reaped a harvest! We have a gas stove for the beachhouse-- courtesy of Grace and Roger Kinsey, which we p u b l i c l y a c k n o w l e d g e . Many thanx-- and it will once more be a pleasure to "play hostess' at any of the many gatherings. Fine citizens, these two. Village Board Meeting Monday, Oct. 9, is the date for the next meeting of the village bo^rd^and it will be held in the beachhouse. Public is cordially invited. S(h) ocker! Chagrin and mortification were clearly written on the countenance of Elma Nelson as her treasurer hu^feand revealed a gaping hole in the heel of his sock at the last board meeting. There he sat, in plain view of >lhe--large gathering. Any c.ne have a spare darning needle-- OR^an extra pair of socks? "Trlke Tot" Treats The "small fry" who attended Johnny Ringelstettei's birthday party last Saturdaywent home "loaded with loot", as they helped him celebrate five years in the great wide world. Young chums who feasted on candy, milk, ice cream, and of course, birthday cake, complete with a cowboy on horseback were Kevin Rourke, Barbie Nye,, and D. D. and Matt Levesque. While the wee ones gorged themselves, momma Lil and poppa Mark entertained the senior citizens who were properly "wined". Red Letter Days Eldest in the kid category is Linda Meyer as she looks forward to her sixth birthday on Tuesday, Oct. 10. . .This date also marks the second anniversary of Phyllis and Denny Straumann. . . .T h i r t y-o n e years in "double harness' for Theresa and Willard Schultz, as of Wednesday, Oct. 11. Best wishes to all. Thanks for sticking with me to the "bitter end" and if you like it, there may be more of the same next week. Can you take it? NO TENEMENTS Most retired couples want a small home in their own home town, near their children and family,- and most of them want one built of wood which is homey and friendly and easy to keep, according to one national housing leader. . All knowledge is similar to a tree---growth always comes from the ends of each branch.
