Walter Dean. local civil defense director, is one member of a commiltee of four "do-ityourselfers" who will build the shelter as an example for the residents of McHenrv county. The shelter plus provisions and equipment for six people for two weeks will be on display for the public every ni^ht as soon as it is sel up. Also on hand will be members of the RACES (radio amateur communications emergency service) who will be in communication with the DuPage county civil defense center, and the mobile radio unit which will be stationed in" different parts .of the county from, time lo time. The display in our county has been set to coincide with DuPage's cent?)', which is active on Monday night, so that communications can be demonstrated. Cheerleaders were chosen by a committee of five teachers last week. They are as follows: seventh erade, Edith Grabovy, Barbara Hansen. Helen Palko, Phyllis Reuter, Vickfe Gustavson, and alternate, Joann Feyerer. Eighth grade cheerleaders are Kathy Ahrens, Kathy Howa r d , M a r y P l i n e r , D o n n a R a s k e , R o n e e S o m m e r s , a n d alternate, Kathy McMillan. Coaches are Miss Lundborg and Mrs. Halverson. After practicing with the coaches, try-outs were held before tbe committee of teachers, with these results. 4-H Wonder Workers Eleven new members joined the 4-H Wonder Workers this fall. This beginning group is being led by Miss Jackie Hansen in their first year sewing and cooking. Action stemmed from the recent bill signed by the Illinois legislature giving incorporated areas jurisdiction over the area a mile and a half» outside the corporate limits, in the absence of a county plan commission. Walter Dean is working on the commission, still in the talking stage, as a member of the zoning committee of the board of supervisors. It's interesting to note that a mile and a half, as the crow flies, from McCullom Lake's limits would be about to the Sinclair station in Wonder Lake. Motorcycle Burns An unusual accident took place Sunday about 5:30 p.m. Sam Bruscato had just parked his motorcycle in front of the Lake view restaurant and gotten off when the bike burst into flames. The gas tank, although full, did not explode. So hot was the fire that the tires were burned and even the tar on the blacktop road. Monday morning early the fir? department was called to the Edward Kcistal home in Look Out Point. The bathroom ceiling and attic rafters were on fire due to an electrical short. The fire was put out with water and - the smoke drawn out of the attic. Garden Club Meeting The Wonder Lake Garden club will meet at the home of Mi's. Eleven youth group representatives were there to exchange notes on the problems and progress of the dehters j they represented. The program | consisted of afternoon meelj ings, dinner and dancing in the evening. Boerner was a special guest at the conference. Speakers were Mrs. Margaret Hayes of the Illinois Youth commission, and Dr. Harry Constantine, a psycho 1 o g i s t from Rock ford. Our delegation came back with mahy ideas for activities and money raising projects. Practice Laying ji Trail Brownie troop 265, whdse leader is Mrs. Tom McMillan, practiced laying and following a trail at their Wednesday meeting. The troop divided into two groups, the first group blazing the trail and the seo- I ond group following the trail I signs. To add interest to the j short hike, each group carried | a bag for collecting items along the way. . . .bugs, discarded bottle caps, hair pins, mushrooms. . . .The best scavengers found about fifty different items in the space of a few blocks. An Revolr, Mr. Gebhart A farewell letter he'll keep forever and gifts from his sifcth grade class saw Roger Gebhart off to the Army last Thursday. Substituting for Mr. Gebhart is Joseph Redalieu of White Oaks Bay, who has been a teacher in the Chicago system previously. On Oct. 1, Father Vanderpool baptized Daniel Richard Malo, son of Don and Marlene Joosten Malo. His godparents are Brian Allegrazza and Jucly Malochleb. Sunday, Oct. 8, Robert Marshall Potier, Jr., son of Robert and Mary Trabiani Potier, was baptized by Father Vanderpool. The godparents are Walter Cox and Mary Hall.
