Johnson, administrator of the Illinois Veterans' commission, stated this week. The recent act increases the special monthly pension rate for those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor from $10 to $100 per month on attaining the age of 50 years. The "honorable" discharge re- Qiurement has also been elimiirated. The Medal of Honor is awarded to those persons who have served in the active military, naval or air service of the United States in any war, for ^having, in action involving actual conflict with an enemy, distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry or intrepidirisk of his life, above eyond the call of duty. The departments of the Army, Navy and Air Force each are required to maintain a Medal of honor roll listing each person who has attained the age of 50 years and who has been awarded the Medal of Honor. The Illinois Veterans' Commission will be pleased to astt those who believe they are gible for this benefit." NEWS Saturday evening, Oct. 14, the members and guests who attended the annual Fifth district dinner dance and anniv e r s a r y c e l e b r a t i o n a t t h e home of V.F.W. Post 4600, McHenry, were treated to an evening they will not soon forget. An estimated attendance at this event was between 450 and 500 persons. It is a pleasure to note the comradeship shown by the various V.F.W. posts to each other by attending these affairs. The evening started with a delicious smor g a s b o r d, prepared and served by our auxiliary.' The dinner was followed by an entertainment period with Joe Benaroco as M.C., June Tracy, song and dance queen, and Diana Lane, dancer deluxe. To those who missed the show, we are bringing June back to the V.F.W. for an encore in the near future. Don't miss this! MEDICAL EXHIBIT OF SOVIETS OPENS AT CITY MUSEUM The first official Soviet government exhibit ever displayed in Chicago opened to the public at the Museum of Science and Industry last Saturday. Titled "The Soviet Exposition of Medicine and Medical Equipment," it is being shown in the Museum at the express request of the U.S. State department and as part of the cultural exchange agreement signed by Russia and this country two years ago. It will remain on view through Sunday, Nov. 5. The huge, exhibit, which includes 30 tons of equipment and which will be manned by approximately thirty Russian medical, scientific and other g o v e r n m e n t r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s , brought to ;,the United States for that purpose, will be housed in the Museum's large west wing. It will be directed by Dr.. Viktor Zhadnov, who headed the Soviet delegation at the meeting of the Wotid Health Organization in Geneva two years ago.
