October ended with Halloween parties and Novemb e r b e g a n w i t h w e d d i n g s , birthdays, anniversaries, and demonstrations. Halloween Parties Harley and Charmaine Pohlman took their tiny daughter, Cindy, to the Moose Halloween Jiarty dressed as a little Indian, "lomrny made the costume and all had a good time. Homer and Peggy Anderson attended a Halloween party at Haroldeen Peck's wearing hof»- eoblin costumes, their own oi^ ieination. Randy Peniek and Edward Anderson went to a Halloween party as two hobos. Thev bobbed for apples and had all Jpnds of fun. One Big Party The Bill Broeans and the Don Roths decided to get together on a party to celebrate Don and Carolyn's anniversary Oct. 30, Bill's birthday. Nov. 3. and Don's birthday, Nov. 5. They -ame up with a Halloween party and decorated the firocan basement for the festivities. All the neighbors were delighted and pitched in each bringing a dish so they feasted on a whole baked ham, potato snlrfds. cole slaws, a relish dish, three kinds of pie, a homemade pound cake, and all the works! Twenty-some adults really had a wonderful time dancing to stereo and enjoying their night out away from all the kiddies! Weddings and Receptions Saturday the Walter Kuck family wont into the city for the weddine and reception of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ricker. The bride was beautiful in her white lace gown and dark hair alongside the handsome blonde eroom. They had a wonderful time dancing in the evening. Alberta Sobacki attended Vic wedding of her nephew, Patrick Groat, in Round Lake. Ed, A Iberia and Mike went to the reception in the evening where they all had a gay time dancing to the music of the orchestra and were served a buffet supper. Birthday Parties Karen Arendt celebrated her «urt.h birthday on a Sunday ternoon with a wonderful children's birthday party. In for the fun and goodies were Cathy, Chris, Keith, Gary and Kenneth Durkin, Kenneth and Jacqueline Jacobson, and brothers, David and Garry Arendt. Lenny Hansen celebrated his birthday at Dolores and Len Lawrence's enjoying fresh homemade pumpkin pie (with candle!) Dolores Lawrence had a marvelous birthday. She and Len, and Warren and Lois Krebs had a very luscious dinner with birthday cake and all at Pat and Bob Kellogg's. Afterwards the six of them went bowling. Three-year-old Billy Huemann invited eleven little boys in for a big birthday party. He ®lebrated a second time joining his cousin Kim Huemann is Johnsburg. She was born on the very same day as he was! Ed Zender's birthday was Nov. 2. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zender, Sr. of Chicago. and Lois' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Claybaugh of Mc Henry, came in for cake and coffee. ^Charlotte Patryas won't be fwgelting her birthday for awhile as it was celebrated three nights in a row each time with a birthday cake. Then Sunday her brother, Rob Stoll, Bert, and Garry, came visiting bearing a cake with candles. Anniversary Party The Alfred Ritter family attended a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary party for his sister and husband, Irene and Joe Magnafichi, in Elmwood Park. Sixty guests were served dinner, followed by dancing to orchestra. music. Al's mother, Mrs. Anna Ritter, baked the tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom. One of the gifts received by the celebrants was a Christmas tree made of net decorated with silver dollars. Demonstration Party Dot tie Messer was hostess for a demonstration party in her home. She served her guests goodies. . .brownies and angel food cake. Mary Hadley won first prize, Shirley Ross won travelling prize, and Pat Kellogg won booby prize. Hostess Rita Simpson served delicious hot sandwiches to the Tripoli club Thursday and also came out the winner for the evening. Booby prize was awarded to Gail Crokin. Bridge club was held at Pat Kellogg's this week. Carol Hayes won first prize, Lee Landin won travelling prize, and Peggy Anderson took the booby prize. Turkey open-faced sandwiches were served. We should ask for the recipe for these with Thanksgiving left-over's soon to come and I hear these were mighty tasty! spent the weekend in Kau- Kaunu, Wis., attending the Wisconsin Outdoor association banquet. Reverend Edward Stach, Jr. Operation Charmaine Pohlman's mother underwent an emergency operation in a city hospital and is now recuperating at home. These poor daughters go through a lot waiting in the corridors! Now it's the men's turn to cope with the housework and cooking while Mom rests. Around the Manor Sunday the Walter Kuck family journeyed into Chicago. This time to visit with their Uncle Walter and Aunt Marge Piske. Sunday dinner guests of James and Edith Long were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roiteau from Chicago. Ricky Moore received a high school letter for track. Mrs. Moore spent her wedding anniversary visiting Gil in HInes hospital. Visiting the Len Lawrence's was Len's mother, Mrs. Lamont, from Norridge. Mr. Raymond Klein came out to meet his new little granddaughter, Joyce Engstrom, and returned to Chicago taking Mrs. Klein back with him. On the twenty-fifth Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zender, Sr. came out for dinner and to "spend the evening. It was their thirtythird anniversary. STUDIES ENGINEERING Kenneth L. Sawdo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Sawdo, 5213 W. Fountain Lane, has enrolled in the electrical engineering program for the 1961 fall quarter at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Sawdo is a 1956 graduate of McHenry Community high school. Brownie News Last week's meeting of Troop 150 was spent making invitations for their parents to the investiture ceremony to be held Tuesday, Nov. 14. They practiced the investiture and the acceptance of year pin awards. Esther Schneider was the mother helping at this meeting, and Audrey Seliga was cookie hostess. Girl Scout News The mothers of Troop 295 attended the meeting Wednesday evening, Nov. 8, instead of their daughters. Leader Marge Barth conducted the meeting as a regular Scout meeting with the pledge and salute to the flag. She discussed the various badges the girls are trying to earn and final arrangements were made for their hike. It was decided that each week a mother will assist the leader and co-leaders. Each of the nine mothers attending brought a doll dressed to represent a foreign country. Cake and coffee were served after the meeting ajourned. They came to live in Sunnyside Est a t e s i n A u g u s t . 1 9 5 9 , f r o m Rogers Park. Alice and Dick work in Lindenhurst and enjoy the morning and evening ride together. Alice enjoys gardening and homemaking and Dick is a golf bug when he has the time. He also likes to read and bowl. Linda is a junior in McHenry high school and being a very pretty teenager has an eye out for the opposite sex. She also likes ice skating, sewing and cooking. Bernie attends St. John's school and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 144. When he isn't busily en-, gaged in Scout activities you will probably find him making models of airplanes or automobiles. He is such a lovable bundle of fluff that held later at his parents' home. Sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens took part in the festivities and Richi received some nice gifts and money from his relatives. Carol reports that the food was out of this world. An Iowa Trip Clif and Andy Sabby recently visited their son and his wife, Lloyd and Naomi, and their children, Karen, Dennis and Ronnie, in Estherville, Iowa. On the way to Estherville they stopped over in Jewel, Iowa and spent two days with friends there. Hey! Mom It has been brought to my attention that when the children get off the school bus in the afternooh they discard their lunch papers then. The &>ind picks up these papers and blows them into the yards of nearby homes making them unsightly. That is added work for these people and they ask the parents to caution . their children against being litterbugs.
