Oh, Yes Claudia Garn is making up a r'^age for the mentally retarded at the Dixon-Lincoln school in Dixon. They ait; in need of a few things for Christmas. If anyone would like to donate something small it will be most welcome. They are in need of soap, combs, toothpaste, tooth-brushes, soft toys, puzzles, books, etc. So girls let's show some Christmas snirit by bringing along one of tilfll^ small items which are very much needed. Notice Lee Hann was playing on the ice on McCullom Lake out at the raft last Saturday and the iC$ gave way under him. Ho started calling for help and Bob Idstein heard him and jumped in his car to go after hi#. A minute or so before Bob got there a boy named Ken Spencer started toward Lee and was pulling him out. No pulmotor was necessary but all three were pretty badly cut on the legs from the broken ice. Now Ihis incident may have been disastrous. So we would like to tell all parents to PLEASE warn your children to keep off of the ice until it is sfM for them to play on it. Explain to them the dangers of playing on thin ice. Even after the ice is thick enough to skate on you or someone competent should accompany your children when they are skating in case of an accident. So please if you LOVE your children. Grandma Koch has been there helping out Shirl and .will stay a few more days. Congratulations! Visit from Former Resident Our community has been visited (his past week by former resident Joe Cina. He has been trying to see all of his friends which I imagine is hard to do. Everyone is happy to see him and wish his wife, Fran, could have joined him on this visit. Hope you both are planning to come back to our wonderful community. Installation PhylliF Koehler, of 611 Hilltop, Lakeland Park, was installed as associate conductress in McHenry Chapter 547 at the Order of the Eastern Star on Saturday, Dec. 2. Afterwards her friend, Jean Meault, served lovely refreshments in her home, which many friends and relatives from out of town as well attended, showering her with gifts and good wishes. Before the Dance Clarence and Elenore Hurleywere h o s t s to a cocktail party before the Snowball dance last Saturday. Their guests were Audrey and Bob Koc/jor. Walter and Inge Piss o w o t z k i , Bob and J e s s e M a t - Ihews, and Edith and Bob Hurley of Wonder Lake. They also had a few toasts to Clarence and Eleanore in honor of their birthdays. Visiting Paul and Alma Brushaber went to visit Alma's niece, Joy Corey, who was recently married. They went to help celebrate the birthday of Joy along with her husband, Gerry. They enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by the hostess. Ray and Gene Smith had a nice Thanksgiving dinner at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Tomaselli, and son, Danny, who reside in1 Franklin Park. Mr. and Mrs. H a r r y H a n n e i n a n , a n o t h e r daughter and children, Bob and Cheryl, from Arlington Heights, also enjoyed the great gobbler and all the goodies. On returning home Ray and Jen brought back Danny and Cheryl to spend the weekend with them and took them back home on Saturday and remained for the .rest of the day to visit. Bob and Gayle Laurseri and family spent an enjoyable day last weekend in Chicago with Bob's mother, Mrs. P. Laursen. helping her celebrate her birthday. Saturday evening the Laursens entertained a few friends from Chicago and Mickey and Eddie Gladman. Gayle prepared a delicious smorgasbord and everyone enjoyed dancing, games and refreshing drinks. They must have had a gay time as Gayle reports they didn't break up until the wee hours of the morning. After the Dance Ken and Bernice Boyce attended the Women's club dance last Saturday and afterwards entertained in their home ior the members of the Squares, who numbered about thirty. Scrambled eggs, waffles, hot rolls and coffee were devoui^ed by all. Don and Toots Gerstad had several couples at their home after the dince last Saturday. It was Don's birthday and a delicious breakfast was served and enjoyed by all. Visitors Last Tuesday, Paul and Alma Brushaber were visited by John and Marie Beherndt who live in Lilymoor. They spent an enjoyable evening together. Bob and Ri1a Idstein had a Thanksgiving dinner for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Waymel, Sr., and also Mr. and Mrs. Ray Waymel, Jr. Rita's brother and their three children, Joan. Jean-Marie and little Ray. All of the Waymelfreside in Chicago. Visitors Don and Carole Humann had unexpected company last Sunday. Jim Smith and his five children dropped in. They are from Harwood Heights. Carol also reports she has had many visitors through the last week. George Haines and daughterin- law, Evelyn, were in attendance Monday morning, Dec. 4, when Mrs. Emily Stevenson. 80, succumbed after a lingering illness. She had been in poor health for several years, and suffered an attack last October from which she never fully recovered. Her physician had been summoned and the family was preparing to remove her to the hospital when death overruled their plans. She was taken to the George Justen & Son funeral home, where services by the McHenry chapter of the Eastern I Star were held on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Burial was private. Mrs. Stevenson of 5001 F o u n t a i n L a n e , M c C u l l o m ! Lake, who would have been j 81 on Jan. 4, 1962, was born | in England in 1881. She came I to this country when she was j 12 years old. Having been mar- I ried once before, she became the bride of Siegfried Stevenson in Wilmington, Delaware, on Jan. 8, 1910. In 1960, the couple was feted for their golden wedding anniversary with an "at home" party which was attended by a large number of neighbors and friends locally and relatives and friends who journeyed a great distance in order to attend. The petite woman and her husband made their home in McCullom Lake four and one half years ago, next door to their son and his wife. In addition to the widower and son, she is survived by one granddaughter. Mrs. Georgia Shaw, of Knox, Ind., and two great-grandchildren, Robert and Margo. The highlight of the event was the pleasure of seeing their first grandson, 14 weeks old Peter, in addition to daughter-in-law, Marge, and granddaughters, Heide, Susie and Lexie. Their son, Jim, will depart for New York to report for duty Dec. 1., while the family will remain here and with Mrs. Winkleman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Goll, in Harvard until Jim locates a suitable residence which will probably be after the holidays. Marvin Rooney, and husband in Aurora, Tuesday. Mrs. A. P. Freund and son, Del, of Wauconda, visited the former's sisters, Sisters Ildefons and Arcadia, in Campellsport. Wis., Friday. They stopped enroute to pick up another sister. Sister Jeremia, a teacher at St. Alfonse's school in Greendale, Wis., who is in her fifty-fifth year in the teaching profession. Mrs. A. P. M C H S N e w s By Louis Llptok On Nov. 29 McHenry high had as guest the famous Apollo quartet from Wesleyan university. They presented a program of music including several numbers by the quartet, numbers by baritone and bass, a piano solo and a trombone trio. It was easy to see and hear from the thunderous applause that the group was a big hit. The McHenry High pep club will hold the second of the season's basketball pep rallies on Friday, Dcc. 8. This year the pep club is trying to build good spirit through good advertising. The officers are Don Kopsell, president; Cheri Vacula, vice president; Lynn Jlartman, secretary; Chris Colburn, treasurer. Posters can be seen throughout the school, individual tags can be seen being worn by stulcnts, and announcements of the coming games can be heard ihroughout the day to ensure the presence of a good cheering crowd.
