rige Ten THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, December 7, Wonder Lake HOME DECORATING CONTEST DEADLINE SET FOR DEC. 10 Jane Ducey The deadline for entering the Christmas home decorating contest has been extended from Dec. 7 to Sunday, Doc. 10. This is the third season the Chamber of Commerce has sponsored a contest here. To enter you MUST fill out an official entry blank, available from the local merchants. Judging will be done on the evenings of Dec. 19. 20 and 21, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for outside decorations or window decorations which can be viewed frofn the outside. There are five categories: Religious, humorous, fantasy, lighting effect and originality, with four awards being made in each category., The judges will be from out of town and will take into consideration the amount of ti&e and le^fort spent by the contestant in\he display. Trophies will be awarded -Dec. 23 t:t 8:30 p.m. at Harrison school. A buffet supper will be served at the Mill Inn following the awards presentation at the school. Firemen's Auxiliary to Organize The wives (also mothers, sisters, daughters) of the volunteer firemen met at the firehouse Tuesday night to organize an auxiliary to help the men. "If you can't lick 'em, join 'em" is one point of view of the auxiliary, meaning that the wives never see their husbands due to the heavy demands on the firemen's time. Between fires there are meetings, "post-nortem" discuscussions of the fires and classes to keep up with the latest in fire fighting. Mrs. Ed O'Brien was appointed 'temporary chairman with Mrs. John Kline and Mrs. Hoi-ace Wagner to work on the b y - l a w s , a n d M r s . R a l p h Swearingen and Mrs. Fred Bethke named on the membership committee. Mrs. Ray Schleicher is in charge of publicity. The next meeting will be the third Thursday in January at ihe firehouse. Style Show A trio of Wonder Lake girls will model in the Christmas Teen style show to be held Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Methodist church hall in McHenry. Both plays are comedies, one a newspaper story and the other a hillbilly farce. "Pandora's Penchant" has the following cast. Allen Jones is the editor, Willard Stahl, Mr. Titan; Jacqui Burr as Pandy; Barbara Hansen is Elsie; Chris Rasmussen, Benny; and Edith Grabovy, Vickie Gustavson &nd Helen Palko are the first, second and third girls. Philip Schimke plays June Maxwell, the sheriff of Calamity County, in "Hillbilly High Jinks", with Kathy Paetow as Elviry Maxwell, and Pamela Young as Blossom Maxwell. Others in the cast are Carol McMillan as Pliney Runner; Gayle McComb as Ellie May Stewart; Bob Freund as Zeke Da<fsen; Joe Sullivan as Harvey Adams; and Jeanne Feyerer as Mrs. Meg Adams. Mr. Josserand, who teaches language arts in the junior high division, directs both plays. Bible Church News Communion Sunday will be observed Dec. 10 instead of the u;.ual first Sunday of the month. The Sunday school will be receiving the usual Jack and Flora offering on Dec. 10 also. This is the Christmas gift that is sent to the Loshbough family serving as missionaries in the Congo. The young people will travel to Arlington Heights Saturday, Dec. 9, for the Youth for Christ musical. Dates to remember: Dec. 17 --White Christmas offering. Bring your gifts of canned g o o d s o r p a c k a g e d f o o d , wrapped in white tissue and labeled so that boxes may be made and distributed to needy families in the area. Sunday evening, Dec. 17, will be the children's Christmas program. Nativity Lutheran' Church News The Luther League will meet Sunday evening at 7:30. A special Fellowship dinner and congregational meeting for all Confirmed members of the parish will take place Wednesday. Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. SHARP at the church. Catechism classes are scheduled as follows: Senior Catechism-- Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Junior class is held Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Choir,, rehearsals: Senior - Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.; Junior, Saturday mornings at 10; and Cherub Choir at 11 o'clock on Saturday morning. Holy Communion: First Sunday of each month. CHRISTMAS HUAL8 Those who have not yet re ceived Christmas seals are asked to phone the McHenry County Tuberculosis association in Woodstock, or better still, mail contribution to the office at the Court House Annex, telling them that you have not received seals. Each contribution helps to make possible the continuance of the campaign against tuberculosis which is carried on in McHenry county every day throughout the year. When people become quieter as they get older, maybe they have something to be quiet about. FIRE SAFETY STICKERS Safety stickers to be placed on windpws of rooms in which there are invalid, convalescent, infirm or aged persons are now available through the local fire department.
