Mount Hope Church The Christmas Eve service will be at 8 p.m. There will be a Christmas day service at 9 a.m. which will be delivered hy the M.Y.F. The Sunday School program on Dec. 10 was excellent and the nativity scene was a joy to behold. The Junior - choir ' sang very well and all in all it was a well arranged program. Jay Story is slowly recuperating in Idaho from his battle with pneumonia. Belated birthday wishes to David Janquart who was one on Dec. 9. A speedy recovery is wished for Donna Dobecki who had her tonsils removed on Dec. 20 at the McHenry hospital. A few gals missed out on a day of work because of the bad roads last week. Putting their scheduled day off to good use were Audrey Misavice, Betty Baker and Meryl Fletcher. The Wally Sielisches and the Druce Pethericks spent last Sunday visiting Wally's cousin, Frank Kelly, in Antioch. Dorothy Orlowski and Joyce Heir attended a Chirslmas party given by the Fox Lake Legion post. The girls recently joined the Woman's auxiliary of the Legion and are enjoying the meetings very much. Dick and Mary Madock and family will spend Christmas day with Mary's mother in Chicago. The Farwell' family has been the victims of colds, sore throats and flu. Tommy Morin was a sick little boy with a very severe throat infection. Dennis Sisk had a birthday party last Tuesday in honor of his seventh birthday. He had a few school chums in to help him celebrate. Betty and Tommy Warczak haye returned home from a five week stay in California. Betty went there to take care of her mother who was ill. Belated happy birthday to Emma Rosengart on Dec. 19 and happy birthday to Miss Elizabeth*Herman on Dec. 24. Congratulations to Dorothy and JaCrv Erbin who wGrc married 1.4 years on Dec. 13. Last Saturday they celebrated it with the Dobeckis. Belated birthday wishes to Torprr\y Mason who celebrated his tenth birthday on Dec. 12. Tom and Tim Healy served as altar boys for the first time last week at St. John's church. Bob and Marilyn VanZevern will have Marilyn's parents and grandparents as guests Christmas day. Barb Sisk, always a willing worker for the Woman's club, picked up some of the cookies for the Boys' home and delivered them to the home of President Kay Sielisch. Helpfulness such as Barb's is always appreciated. Joe and Elizabeth Hanisch went to Chicago to pick up Joe's parents. They will spend the Christmas holidays with them. The talented gals who are participating , in the Christmas program for the Woman's club spent a few days and evenings at the home of Marcia Weaver practicing the parts and songs. Charles and Diana Murgatroyed celebrate their wedding anniversary on Dec. 22. We wish them many more happy years. Kay Sielisch's sister, Mary Ann Jesweak, entered Blodgett hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., and will undergo surgery. With all Kay's folks in and out of hospitals before Christmas, ho family gathering is being planned this year. Phil and Patty Krumwiede of Oak street are the proud parents of a baby girl born Dec. 4 at the Fort Atkinson hospital in Wisconsin. Patty and the baby will stay in Park Ridge for a few weeks. Riverside Dr. EV 5-0979 McHenry Shores SHORES CLUB ADOPTS BY-LAWS AND CONSTITUTION Terry Coates At the December meeting of the McHenry Shores Club, Inc., the new constitution and bylaws, which had been presented for consideration at the November meeting by the board of directors, were adopted after same had been considered, article by article, by the membership. Several amendments were approved but in general they were approved as read. Many thanks are in order to the board for the many hours required in writing up these hylaws and to Harry Miller for the printing of same. Also to Carl Simonsen for his work in preparing the by-laws for mailing to the membership. Nominations for directors for the club were presented by the nominating committee and also made from the floor. The elec tion of directors, three to serve three years, and one to serve two years, will take place at the January meeting of the club. Plans are almost completed for a children's party to be held at the V.F.W. clubhouse on Thursday, Dec. 21. It is hoped that many adults will also come out to this affair to lend encouragement to the children in their efforts to put on a good show. We were all happy to see Mrs. Emily Reznicek of 613 Meadow in attendance at the December meeting. Main street on Thursday, Dep. 14. Notes of Women's Club Parly On Friday, Dec. 8, a number of women from McHenry Shores, members of the McHenry Women's club attended the Christmas party of the club. Christmas party at the Oak Park Y.M.C.A., given t)y the Oak Park Chapter of the National Association of Retired Civil Employees of which Mr. Coates is . a member. About eighty attended and enjoyed a wonderful dinner and entertainment provided by local talent, Prizes were given to each member attending and also to guests. Otto Kerner, has expressed his approval of action taken by mayors, state and county officials throughout Illinois in developing Civil Defense programs. "The current international situation, plus the grave responsibilities of tjie State of Illinois for action during the periods of natural disasters, have heightened the interests of both my office and, I am sure, the interests of other elected officials in this allimportant program," .the governor said. The governor added that the federal government is starting a survey of ail public buildings to determine their possible use as fallout shelters., This survey will be conducted: by the Army Corps of Engineers utilizing, the services of> private architects and . engl-i neers, assisted by the local Civil Defense representatives' throughout Illinois. FAIL FITNESS PROGRAM Addressing a Governor's Conference on Physical Fitness last week, Gov. Otto Kerner stated that we are raising generation a f t e r g e n e r a t i o n of young Americans who do^ not have the spirit or strength of their forefathers. In September last almost half of the boys of the nation failed to pass military pre-induction physical examinations. In Illinois 36.9 per eent of the boys were turned down. The governor pointed out that during physical fitness tests conducted in 1956, 58 per cent of the Americans failed. At the same time on only 9 per cent of European children failed the same tests. 'These factsshould shock us from our lethargy," the governor said. He called upon church organizations, community centers and- ilivate enterprise to help the schools with a stepped-up youth fitness program.
