This is a reminder so that everyone who is able to attend should do so. Inasmuch as these meetings are for our benefit everyone should attend. Lakeland Park Minstrel Showboat a. The Lakeland Park showboat, sponsored 'by the Marengo P.T.A., will be presented at the Marengo high school Jan. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Also it will be presented at the Harrison school in Wonder Lake sponsored by the Wonder Lake Kiwanis club on Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. Chorus rehearsals will be every Friday at 7:30 at the community house. Anyone interested in joining the showboat is most welcome. Women's Club Last Thursday, Jan. 4, the Lakeland Park Women's club held its monthly meeting. It was a very interesting program which was presented by a local charm school. We got some nice tips on charm and fashions. • Notice Children have been seen riding a sled that is tied on to the back of a car. This can result in very serious injury. Parents should warn their children of this danger. Anniversary Wishes Happy anniversary to Ron and Barb Meurer who will observe their, ninth year of wedded bliss this coming Wednesday. Jan. 17. So please ladies save your coffee strips and seals and bring them with you to the next meeting so we may purchase that coffee pot soon. Scott weighed Birthday Doings Herby Bettmer celebrated his fourth birthday which was Jan. 1 on Sunday, Dec. 31 at his home. His guests for the afternoon were Grandma Mary La- Magdeleine, Aunt June Porter and cousin Dru,. aunt Ruth Hall and cousins Sharyn, Vicky and Jimmie, aunt and uncle Bill and Carol LaMagdeleirx"1 and cousins Linda and Kathy, aunt Helen LaMagdeleine and friend Jim Nolten all of Mundelein. Herby's mom prepared a huge turkey dinner and afterwards they all sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Darlene Licastro had an unusual birthday party in honor of her seventh birthday. She treated her friends, Leah Rode, Nancy Matthews, Karen Slonina and Debbie Barwig to luncheon at a local restaurant where they all enjoyed hamburgers, cokes and ice cream, also some dancing to the juke box. Afterwards they all returned to her home to watch Darlene open her gifts. She received many lovely gifts and is enjoying every one of them. They visited her son, Dennis Doering who is stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California and spent some of the time visiting Mrs. Doe ring's mother, Mrs. Emma Franzen, in San Francisco. It was the first time that Mrs. Franzen had seen her great-granddaughter, K i mberly. They said they had a very lovely time and enjoyed every minute of it. ... Get - Togethers Ivy Lezak entertained last Wednesday afternoon a few of the girls to a game of Tripoley. Her guests were Ruth Hauptman, Grace Mandziara, Edna Hunter and Ann Herzog. They also had a guest of honor who was Grace's mother, Mrs. Viola Bull of Wisconsin, who has been spending a few days with Grace. Ivy served some of those Hi-caloried desserts again (yum-yum) which the girls enjoyed tremendously. The Matthews were host and hostess for two Saturday evenings. On Dec. 30 their guests were the Georges, Rodes, Koczors, Haerles and the Pissowotzskis. On Jan. 6 their guests were the Wohnrades, the Grizelys, and the Steeles. They all had an enjoyable time on both evenings. Birthday Wishes To Mark Rogers who will be two Jan. 12, to/ Mary Ellen Johnson who will be five on Jan. 12, and another wish on Jan. 12 to Nicholas Pintozzi. To Darlene Licastro who was seven on Jan. 3, to Michael Burmann who will be two years old on Jan. 17 and to Millie Pintozzi on Jan. 16. Many happy returns of the day to you all. New Year's Doings Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bettmer and family attended a family reunion on New Year's day at the home of Mrs. Bettmer's mother in Mundeleine. Nine out of eleven children were able to attend. A grand time was had by all. Toots and Don Gerstad had a cocktail party New Year's eve before going out for the evening. Drinking toasts to the New Year with them were Petey and Jack Oakford and Hal and Pat Bruno. Afterwards they journeyed to the American Legion for an evening of dancing and of course a little celebrating. The Herzogs entertained the Hauntresses, Hafers and the Lezaks for New Year's eve. They all played cards which was pinochle as usual (and I bet they had a time playing with three decks.) When the guests arrived Ann had them all put a dime on the table and upon leaving they each took one and were to put it in their purses or wallets for a lucky coin throughout this coining year. At midnight each enjoyed a piece of herring and all the other goodies which Ann had prepared. It was the wee hours of morning before this gang broke up and journeyed home to begin a new year. Ann and Rich Wohnrade were host and hostess for a gala New Year's eve party. Their guests were Sue and Matt Grizely, Vivian and John Steele, Judy and Rich Janzik, Donna and Ray Rode, Walter and Inge Pissowotzski, Audrey and Bob Koczor, Eleanore and Clarence Haerle and Bob and Jesse Matthews. They all had a good time bringing in the new year. New Year's day the Flannigans were visited by friends, Mr. and Mrs. Val Pisarczyk, and children, Maryanne, Kathy and Leroy of Elgin. Suspend Licenses Of Four Drivers The suspension of four drivers' licenses has been ordered by the office of Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier, affecting county residents. All of the suspensions were for three violations and include the licenses of Eugene F. Battista and Thomas C. Kelley of Crystal Lake, George A. Bunzi of Lake-in-the-Hills and Ronald W. Larak of Cary. Teenage News Mrs. Dorothy Bonder, chair, man of the Christmas party and teenage dance sponsored by the L.I.A., reports a very successful affair. She was assisted by her co-chairmen, Mrs M. Beahler and Mrs. S. Nicholls. Through the cooperation of the members and the Girl Scouts a fine program was enjoyed and Santa distributed gifts. STUDY ECONOMY Gov. Otto Kerner has named a Committee on Economy, with Lt. Gov. Samuel H. Shapiro as chairman. "The state's financial situation demands immediate action," the governor said. 'The committee will be responsible for bringing state expenditures in line with anticipated revenues and will take necessary steps to achieve this result." Her home was beautifully decorated in keeping with the holiday season. Egg nog was served the guests and games were a part of the entertainment. Prize winners were Mrs. Peggy Buessler, Mrs. Harriet Olson, Mrs. Viola Mc- Nish, Mrs. Rose Marks and Mrs. Frances Shotliff. There was a gift exchange and refreshments were served to complete a pleasant afternoon. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Harriet Olson on Wednesday, Jan. 17. A Birth Mr. and Mrs. .Leo Smith announce the birth of a son, Kevin Leo, weighing 5 lbs., 4 ozs., born Dec. 9 at St. Theresa's hospital, Waukegan. Baby Kevin arrived before his due date and was in critical condition for seventy-two hours. Mother and son returned home on Sunday, Dec. 17. Baby Kevin has a brother, Gary, and a sister, Nancy, who welcomed him. Club Meet Mrs. Math Nimsgern was hostess to the members of her club last week. Prizes for high score in five hundred went to Mrs. Mame Tinney, Mrs. Emma May, Mrs. Helen Smith, Mrs. Tillie May and Mrs. Nimsgern. A lunch was served after cards. Members of her club met at the home of Mrs. Arthur Klein in Fox Lake Thursday night. A delicious salad and hot rolls were served the guests. Cards were played and prizes went to Mrs. Paul Lewis, Mrs. Klein and Mrs. Ray May. The club will meet in February at the home of Mrs. George W. May. Trip - Bliss June Miller has Just returned from a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada and California. She went to Los Angeles, Pasadena and greatly enjoyed the Tournament of Roses parade and a visit to Disneyland.
