PagtTwotre THE McHENRY PLAINDEALEH Johnsburg DINNER HONORS BASEBALL STAR, CHARLIE HILLER Betty Hettermann Charlie Hiller made news once again last week. He was euest of honor at a dinner held at tho American Legion hall in Woodstock on Jan. 29. Many of his long time baseball buddies were on hand to reviewvarious experiences in the sport field. Tiger members from the 1952 state championship game were also present. A very fine picture taken on this particular evening appeared in last week's paper. Everyone in our town is real proud of "Chuck" and wish him much success in his future as a baseball playtr. Girl S^out News Troop 408* completed its mending and started working on a cigar box project. Quite a few Scouts were absent due to illness. Refreshments for this meeting were' served by Nancy Jorgeson. At the last meeting of troop ftarsday. February 8, 1962 378 the girls discussed their cailendar sales again ahd made more plans for their Valentine party. New officers were also elected at this meeting. Newly installed into office were; Jean Hettermann as president, Sheila Marshall as j vice-president, Sheila Smith as j treasurer, and Joy Ann Hetter- I mann as secretary. Several of I the girls demonstrated steps in their recent badge work. Borinie MacGregor Was Cookie hostess for the afternoon. Hello to Kathy B&rth who is the new scribe for troop 296. She is now reporting all the goings on about this troop. Last week's meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Dehn once again due to the illness of their leader Marge Barth. At this time the troop practiced the flag ceremony and further discussed badge work. These badges will be received at the Court of Awards which will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Johnsburg public school. A Girl Scout rating test was held on this particular meeting night. Games were also enjoyed and the meeting was brought to a close with a Girl Scout squeeze. They will put on a program for their parents in the near future. Carol Ann Dehn served a cookie treat to all present. Yonths to Bowl Weekly As of last Sunday the members of the C.Y.J, will bowl weekly at the local bowling allies. They will bowl each Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. (wenfis on Parade Cindy Roberts returned to her first grade classes earlier this week after a siege with the chicken pox. Her younger brothers, Mike and Jeff, came down with the same on Saturday.- Karen Hettermann fell victim to the measles recently. All in all this has been quite a year for all parents with their children. There has been all types of flu around and the common cold has had his day with the residents of our area also. Mumps and scarlet fever are in the news too. So please parents keep a close watch on your kiddies and keep them home if they are not up to par. This is the only way you can help to keep the germs from spreading. Get well wishes to all those sick ones who are confined to their homes for one sickness or another. Julie Oeffling is the most recent to catch the chicken pox. Birthday Corner Four young ladies in this vicinity turn "Sweet Sixteen" this month. Namely Nancy Kay Miller, Kathy Hettermann, Sandy Hettermann and Diane Stilling. The Miller home has reason for a double celebration as Georgette also was a February baby. David Oeffling observes natal day number eight on the thirteenth of this month. Carol Ann Dehn will be lighting twelve candles on her cake come the tvvcnty-secqnd. Happy birthday to the above mentioned and any other February celebrants. Forthcoming Meetings The men Foresters will meet in the community club hall next Thursday evening, Feb. 8, at 8 o'clock. The members of the Blessed Virgin Sodality will hold their regular monthly meeting in the school hall on Tuesday evening, Feb. 13. All members are cordially invited to attend. Showered With Gifts In these days surprises are almost impossible. But this was • not so in Andrea Bremran's case when she walked into the community club hall last Monday evening. Andy came to attend a shower for another bride-to-be or so she thought. About seventy guests were in attendance to bestow gifts 4. her. Hostesses for the evening were Judy Brennan, Judy Huff, Julie Oeffling, Kathleen and Marguerite Brennan. Andy will become the bride of Tom Oeffling on Feb. 17 in a ceremony which will be performed in St. John's church. Dorothy Hiller was guest of honor at a bridal shower held in the home of Mrs. Jar Stilling last Friday evenii Kay and Pam Hiller were cohostesses for the evening. Some twenty friends were on hand to watch Dorothy open her many lovely gifts. Refreshments were served by the hostesses near the close of the evening. Miss Hiller will exchange marriage vows with Frank Murphy next Saturday at 15, o'clock in St. John's chur^. Four showers were held pre"- ously for the bride-to-be by friends and relatives. Hospital Patients John Knox is recuperating at the McHenry hospital after recently undergoing surgery. He will soon be at home where his recuperation period will continue for awhile. David Peterson spent l£: Sunday night in the McHenry hospital. He is now getting well at home. Holy Name Meeting Well Attended The reception of new members in the Holy Name society was a great success last Sunday evening. Church services were held at 7:30, followed by the meeting which was held O.i the community club immedi ately after. Father O'Neil was the guest speaker. Many new members as well as current members were present to part i c i p a t e in the evening's agenda. I Entertains Visitors Even though the Arnold Michels family was plagurd with the flu and a virus they managed to entertain Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bugner of Alvada, Ohio for several days last week.
