Page Eighteen THE McHENBT PLAINDEALEH Thursday, February 8, 1961 Sunnysids Estatei CONFIRMANDS HONORED WITH MANY PARTIES Polly Stevens - 385-1256 Twelve youngsters of Sunnyside Estates were confirmed Sunday, Jan. 28, at St. John the Baptist Catholic church in Johnsburg. Parties and celebrations were held later in the day to honor the girls and boys and- all received lovely gifts and money. Lois and Herb Anderson held open house to honor their daughter, Mary. Lois' niece, Marjorie Oelrich, was sponsor for the occasion. Ice skating and outdoor sports were enjoyed by the guests and a continuous buffet was served throughout the afternoon. Diane and Ted Bierchen, youngsters of Dorothy and Ted, were sponsored by Pat and Sam Tomasello. A family dinner was served later to the* sponsors, grandmothers Bierchen and Ahearn, Dotti'e sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Steve Vrablik, LaVern and Joe Jost and younger sister, Dolores. Neal Davis, son of Mary and Red, was sponsored by Uncle Jack Doherty. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davis, and Ellen and 011iev'Swanson of Chicago, aunt and uncle Pat and Dennis Padovani of Arlington Heights and Jack and Louise Doherty and their three children of Maywood came to spend this day of days with young Neal and enjoy a delicious dinner. Pat DeFrancisco, young son of Mary and Joe, was sponsored by his cousin, Lou Fellicetti. A family dinner was served later to Rose and Tom Fellicetti, daughter, Rosemary, Grandmother Mary Miranda, aunt and uncle Lena and Ziggie Szabelski and their daughter, Pat, and of course, broth which was both interesting and informative. Seeing the film and listening to the discussion gives one food for thought. Cakes donated by La Verne Jost, Florence Kanter and Florence Kelso were served with steaming cups of coffee. Get Your Shovel This is a good time to remind everyone that our mailboxes must be shoveled so we may receive our mail. Our mailman has done a terrific job through all this gosh-awful weather delivering our mail. Let's lighten his woes by getting out the old snow shovel and shoviel, brother and sister, shovel! Fluttering Wings As I write this column I can hear the fluttering of the stork's wings as he hovers overhead. An anxious father is chewing his nails and pacing the floor as he awaits Mr. Stork's arrival. Hope he gets here by deadline time. Golden Wedding Anniversary Millie and George Kropf pulled a successful surprise party on his parents, Tillie and Max, of Elmhurst on their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 26. Invitations were sent to relatives by phone, letter and carrier pigeon. Forty-five responded and congregated at the Kropf home in Elmhurst to help the happy couple celebrate their great occasion. Their grandson, Raymond, was among the happy celebrants. A buffet table was filled with all the goodies anyone could desire and enjoyed by all the guests. May we add Our congratulations to Tillie and Max and hope they celebrate fifty more years. neighbors, Millie and George Kropf, at 1713 W. Indian Ridge drive. They came to live in Sunnyside Estates in Aug. 1957 from Chicago. George is a papper cutter for a printing firm in Chicago and commutes daily. He is a past vice-president of SEHOA, Inc., a former league baseball player, and likes all sports. George is also an avid cross word puzzler and likes gardening and improving their home in various and sundry ways. Millie enjoys crocheting, baking, cooking and is a good "cooker." She also likes gardening and is a wonderful homemaker. Their oldest son, George/ Jr. is a Private 1st Class at Ft Campbell, Ky., and his hobby is boating. 'He is a mechanic by trade and enjoys his work. His younger brother, Raymond, is following in his footsteps and loves the mechanics of automobiles. Ray is a mqwie camera "bug" ""Ifnd he may be seen anytime and anywhere, shooting scenes, folks and anything shoo table. We are fortunate to have neighbors' like the Kropf family. He Made It!!! Old Mr. Stork was very accommodating and landed at McHenry hospital at 2 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2. He left a tiny squirming masculine bundle for Marge and Harold Palmer who shall be called Lawrence Joseph. Baby Larry weighed 8 lbs. and 1 oz. and will be welcomed home by big sister, Kathy, and brothers, Sherwood and Marty. Congratulations to the Palmer family. Christening Paul Joseph Walczynski's parents, Joan and Stan, picked Sunday, Jan. 7 as his christeners, Louie and Joe; and brand i 'ng That was the da> of new sister. Sharon. |the bl§ snow storm- Hls S°d* Laird Kayier, Jr. was sponsored by Herb Anderson. Larry is the son of Gladys and Laird, Sr., and he was happy to have Grandmother Mildred Kayier present on this happy day. Helen and Sol Kobus' daughter, Kandy, was ill but went to church to be confirmed and then back home into bed again. Her sponsor was Judith Cmiel of Niles. A turkey dinner was served to her guests which included Fran and Julian Cmiel, parents of Judith, Pat Spindler and other friends from Niles. Mike Major, son of Lorraine and Steve, Sr., was sponsored by Cedius Andreasen. A turkey dinner was served to the assembled guests who were Steve's sister and brother-inlaw, Mary and Cedius Andreasen, Sr., Cedius, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, Jr.'s friend, Margaret Oik. Loretta and Bob Mikkelsen's son, Mickey, was sponsored by their friend, Lennie Glowinski. Later a dinner was served to Lennie, his wife, Dosalie, daughter, Ann Marie, and LaVerne and Joe Jost and family. Two children of Irene and Walter Roy were confirmed, Christine was sponsored by Jean Barrar and Kenny was sponsored by Harold Palmer. A dinner for the sponsors and their families was enjoyed later in the day. Last but certainly not least was pretty Judy Walczynski who was sponsored by her aunt, Aida Zmudzki. Sharing the happy day were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holtfodt, and uncle Stan Zmudzki. Needless to say there was plenty of delicious food. mother and godfather who were to be aunt Aida Zmudzki and uncle Jim Anderson were unable to get here because of the storm so Joan and Stan stood in by proxy. Other invited guests stayed home because of the weather and only the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holtfodt, were present. Another try was made on Jan. 21 and another storm held the celebrants to Aida and Stan Zmudzki and their children and Stan's mother, Mrs. Aneila Walczynski. Paul Joseph certainly came into a world of snow. Two In One Two year old Kim and one year old Erik, children of Fran and Jerry Olsen, celebrated their birthdays Wednesday, Jan. 31. Erik was one on Jan. 30 and Kim was two Feb. 1 hence the family party on Wednesday. Complicated but convenient, huh? Happy birthdays. kids. Brownie News At the Tuesday, Jan. 30, meeting of Troop 150 the Brownies decorated their lemme sticks and started a surprise valentine present for their parents. Happy birthday was sung to Debbie Stull who celebrated on Jan. 28. The girls practiced the Virginia reel from the dancing lessons they have been taking ori Mondays. Cookie hostesses were Leonie Schneider and Audrey Seliga and mother helper was Jackie Smolinski for this meeting. The toboggan party held Saturday, Jan. 27, was enjoyed by fifteen Brownies and Leaders Alice Bieschke, Sylvia Von Obstfelder and Marian Pflug. Betty Lakowske was mother helper and parents, Mrs. Mayer and Mr. and Mrs. Hosier | were guests as the small-fry went sailing down the hill on toboggans and flying saucers. I hear that even the leaders and parents took their turns on the hill. We are glad to report that Pat DeFrancisco is home from the hospital and feeling better. Virus, colds and flu suffers are Carol Kennebeck, Kandy, Randy and Brian Kobus, Marge DeFrancisco, Johnny Lakowske and Lorriane Major. Get this! Six week old Paul Walczynski has tonsillitis, TONSILLITIS! Donnie Voight had a tooth knocked out by a puck while playing hockey. He is now sporting a false tooth, at his age too! The sun is beginning to shine again in the Kimbro-Stevens household. Ma is clunking merrily around on her rented walker and I expect her to start doing the twist any day now. Pa, bless'im, is out and around shopping, running errands and being his usual helpful self. Birthdays Happy birthday to Matt Bott on Feb. 8 and to Dale Maule on Feb. 9. Eight year old Steve Farley and six year old Marty Palmer will blow out their candles on Feb. 11. Best wishes to Robert McDonald, Jr. on Feb. 13 and to our Valentine boy, Rick Radtke, on the 14. Happy birthday, all! Anniversaries Congratulations on five years of marriage to Alice and Ray Bieschke on Feb. 9 and to Velda and Jim Tyler on Feb. 12. Returnees Mr. and Mrs. William Schwieger have returned from a visit with their daughter and son-in-law, Chrystal and Ed Stach, in Granite City, 111. Thev reported that the weather there was every bit as lou-zay as ours. Mrs. Albert Holtfodt, mother of Joan Walzcyski and Lorretta Mikkelsen, has returned to Chicago after a 5 week visit with Joan and family. Mr. and Mrs. Holtfodt expect to be in their new home here around the first of March. Sympathy We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to George and Millie Kropf on the death of his maternal aunt, Rose Gentili. Topics Girl Scout News The meeting of Troop 295 was held at the home of Mrs. Catherine Dehn due to the illness of Leader Marge Barth. The meeting was begun with a salute to thk flag and then plans were made for the Court of Awards which will take place Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Johnsburg public school. The girls were served their treats and cookie hostess was Carol Ann Dehn. The meeting was closed with a hand squeeze. Sick List It seems as though half of Sunnyside Estates is on the list. We are sorry to report that Chet Banker is hospitalized at the U. S. Naval hospital, Ward 6-E, Great Lakes, with a heart attack. We hope that he will soon be home. Scarlet fever victims are Mary Walczj^iski and the Siepm a n youngsters, Mitchell, Heather and Howie. We'll be washing our clothes with electronics soon and book and newspaper reading will be done for us by electronic equipment in the near future. Lilymoor EXTEND SYMPATHY TO LOCAL FAMILY WHEN MOTHER DIES Shirley Schuerr Our deepest sympathy goes to Harold and George Frederick on the loss of their mother, Mrs. Anna Frederick who passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Harvard hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. In the twenty odd years that Mrs. Frederick resided here in Lilymoor she made many friends who will miss her friendly and warm feeling toward them. Home I am happy to report that Herman Crawley returned home from the hospital Monday, Jan. 29. Herman still has to take it easy, but he sure is glad to. be home. Flu Bug The flu bug is surfe making the rounds here in Lilymoor. Susan Crawley and Sharon Neumann have been home for a week with the old bug. Charlene Crawley and Isabelle Karmel are also having a bout with that old flu bug. To each of you we say, a speedy recovery. Reminder This coming Saturday, Feb. 10, is the pot-luck supper. All Mr. and Mrs. residents of Lilymoor are invited to ceme to the supper. You are asked to bring a dish to share with someone else. It will be held at the community house.
