Too much fttarch, clothes not properly rinsed, or dirt on the bottom of your iron will cause this. If it's the bottom that's at fault, rub with a, damp cloth when cool. Polish with a dry cloth. For stubborn cases, use silver polish, or run the iron over a little table salt spread on waxed paper. In the case of some rayons and other synthetic fabrics, too hot an iron will cause sticking. Q. I always have trouble when pinning on or cutting the patterns from slippery fabrics. Do you have any suggestions? A. Try spreading your fabric on a clean rug or carpet, whose nap should hold it still enough for easier work. Q. Should one use hot or cold water when making a mustard plaster? A. N e i t h e r . The w a t e r should be tepid. Q. How can I remedy some of our doors which drag or scrape on the floor? A. Tighten the screws that hold the hinges in place. Not only will the leather retain its gloss, but the shellac will protect It against careless kicks, scratches, and the like. Q. How can I improve the appearance of a guilded clock? A. Try rubbing it with a cloth dampened with alcohol or turpentine. Q. Is there a "homemade" glue that will stick glass to glass, leather to metal, or other such unusual combinations? A.
