She reports she had a wonderful time. The Herzogs were invited to the home of their son and family. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Herzog in Oak Park, for a birthday dinner in honor of Bill and Ann's birthdays. Also joining in the celebration wer« Bill's daughter and husband. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Marbcrg. The Muerers spent the weekend in Chicago visiting with iheir parents and relatives. They had a most enjoyable time and it sure broke the monoiony of the long winter for them. Well, it's either feast or famine! Last week we had such a nice big column and here we are this week with practically nothing. Last week my phone buzzed with calls on all kinds of activities and this week I thought my phone was out of order. I guess this weather has gotten just about everyone down. It almost seems as though we're getting a double dose this year because we got off so easy last year. There's a bright note on the horizon -- here we are half way through March, if you can hold on just a couple more weeks, there isn't a year on record when winter didn't come to an end sometime in March or April and tulips didn't poke through in April or May -- so look ahead and things will begin to look better. In the meantime surely you've been doing something, or your neighbor has. How about getting on the phone and dialing 385-4672. Then if we're stuck inside for a few more weeks at least we'll have something to read and we'll know what's going on at the other end of the subdivision. While I'm making a plea for news may I make a special plea for news about our young people here. I know they are all active-- we're so quick to criticize, let's be quicker to praise and give them the credit due them. Association Meeting The Holiday Hills Property Owners association met at the Abbink home on Monday, March 5. There was some discussion on amendments of the by-laws. Other business transacted was an allotment for beach improvement. The new committee chairmen have not been assigned as yet, but will be very shortly and then there will be more to report to you. If there's any particular committee you'd be interested in, please call Harry Postal, he'll be happy to hear frran yon. He's always looking f0r a willing worker. heim, Kathy, Eileen and Gary Connell, Dawn Heise, Phillip Notoli, Steve Stoddard, Patty Emerson and his brother, Kurt Tueber. Brother Patrick didn't participate 'in the" Games played but thoroughly enjoyed the cake and ice cream. Rita Ann is Nine ^ Rita Ann Mettelka marked off nine years on the calendar on Feb. 28 and then had a big party on March 3 to celebrate the occasion. Marlene Brookman, El Vira Ahderson, Francis C o r m a n, Linda Exline, Valarie Forthman, Kathy Grail, Roxy Haf tr, Pamela Nugent, and Audrey Westcart were the guests on hand to enjoy the fun, games and the twist contest. "~\ Another member of the Mettelka household had a birthday recently. Earline turned "16" on March 7. The Cub Scouts, whose den she had taken over for Marge Connell recently, had a surprise party for her the day before, on March 6. Cake and coffee were enjoyed by Helen Boettcher, Mary Mahon and Virginia Lundelius at Jesse Hawhees home on March 2 to celebrate Jesse's birthday. Congratulations John Hale competed in the district contest of the Illinois grade school bands. The contest- was held on Saturday, March 3, at the Beach Park Consolidated school in Waukegan. John took a first place in his class. Nice going, John, keep it up. I had the opportunity to hear John and a group of his friends play at school last week and those boys were really good. I can see why several of them took first places. Athletic Club The Griswold Lake Athletic club will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, March 21, at the home of Con Kasparzyk. Here's wishing you all a Happy St Patrick's day this Saturday. She was sent home the same day and is now "taking it easy" at home. Laura is well known for her wonderful baking but due to arthritis has been unable to pursue this hobby for a good while. However, now that she is out in this fine country air perhaps she'll resume this pastry pastime. Mmmmm. Sure hope so. Her other hobby is collecting salt and pepper shakers and claims to about 300 different pair. Now all she needs is a display case. Get busy Dad! Fair Warning Readers, be prepared!
