Chefs Discovered The members of the Men's Club of the Community Meth- ^xli.st church put-on their chef's hats last Tuesday evening and really cooked up a storm. There was delicious beet stroganoff as ihe main dish and superb strawberry shortcake for dessert . There were over 150 who attended and among these wei-e a number from McHenry Shores. Those included the Ol- ^binskis. Sch o p p s, Ziemetzes. wTanners. and the Guy Ambroses. There was singing and an excellent speaker, Rev. Stafford. Lono Man in Family A man has to learn to take a stand in a home which is occupied by four lovely ladies. However, in the instance of which we speak there seems be' no problem. Ed Vilim is our man of the week and to know him is to know that he is very proud of his "girls". Dorothy is his very pretty wife and his daughters are Shirley, Barbara and Debie. Ed attended St Philip's high school and Coyne Electrical school. During the years 1944 to 1947 he was an Aviation jplect rician's innate in the Navy and stationed in Florida. When Ed met Dorothy he was working in a supermarket and very charmingly gave her the biggest head of lettuce on hand for h^f price. Now. any economy minded woman would not let such a bargain go by unheeded. She didn't and married him on September 11, 1948. • Before the Vilims came to the Shores they lived in Lombard where Ed owned his own service station. Ed's love of sports made him a member in good standing of the Lombard Athletic club. He was made treasurer of this club and also treasurer of the union of his place of employment. In December of 1959 the Vilims moved to their present home here in the Shores at 1208 Bonnie Brae Drive. Ed and Dorothy both have been very active in the M.S.C. and Ed is now treasurer of the club and a very good one. He is now a retail routeman and a very busy and active person. His sport-loves include fishing, golfing, bowling, basketball and working in the garden* a hobby which almost everyone seems to pick up on moving to the Shores). Need we say that we are delighted that such a fine family has moved in our midst. We hope they stay for many years to come. First Party Sally Hawes had her first taste of birthday parties Sunday, March 25. She was 3 years old and a more delightful little girl you couldn't have found anywhere. The Hawes had decorated their utility room with pink and white crepe paper and balloons. There was a delicious dinner with ice cream and cake, presents, and prizes. Everything to make a little girl happy. Saily's guests included her grandmother and grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kraning. and Di^ne and Gene Kraning (her Aunt and Uncle), another Aunt and Uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vallner, and their daughters, Kathie, Suzie and Sharon. Sally will undoubtedly be talking about this for days. Style Review An excellent style review and benefit bridge luncheon was enjoyed by a number of our Shores girls. The benefit was held at the V.F.W. on March 27 and was given by the Women's auxiliary of the McHenry hospital. Those attending from the Shores were Virginia Verstege, Mildred Snively, Terry Coates, Helen Smith, Nell Rodes. Leah Hogan, Daisy Smith and Irene Middlekauff. Irene, Mildred and Daisy had charge of the prizes and reported the whole affair to be a big success. enjoyed the speaker immensely. Later a wonderful smorgasbord was served and enjoyed by the ladies. Former Residents Return Elsie and Jack Schmitt, former residents of the Shores, were visiting here this past weekend. Darlene and Gordon Hattan treated them to Saturday night dinner and they enjoyed a very pleasant visit. We were all glad to see the Schmitts back, even if it were for so short a time. We hope they are enjoying their new home. Around Town The young people had a great time going round in circles last Wednesday. The seventh and eighth graders all went roller skating, our Sandy Winters and Shirley Vilim among the young crowd. The Ziemetz family spent a pleasant weekend with guests from Venice, Fla. This was Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maloney who are sister-in-law a n d brother-in-law of Mrs. Ziemetz. The Winters entertained friends from Chicago Heights last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Don Mix and their daughter, Holly, enjoyed a pleasant stay with Louise and Sam. By. the way, Louise is very Page Twenty-One pleased now that she has Sam around the house more often. Sam has recently finished a 7- week stint in New York studying ins and outs of a huge new jet. He's real tickled he can now start working once more on his own little plane instead of the big ones. Barbara Vilim has reason to be pleased with her Brownie Troop (190) as it recently sold ihe most Girl Scout cookies in the area. We are now wondering just how much of the credit should go to little Barbara alone, since we know what a good little salesman she is. The sale was officially over at the end of last month but most of us would probably like to keep buying those delicious cookies. My. but they kwere good! J Last Saturday the Troop had a lovely time going to the Brookfield Zoo. J Sick List and Hospital News i Bobby ahd Patty Mueller |were both sick last week.
