The affair was an appreciation for the $1,200 given to date to the Easter Seal society by the Junior organization over the past five years. Money was earned by tag days, school appeals and bakeless balqe sale, as well as bake s^l£s in the Richmond area, it was reported by the Junior president, Jimmy Schroeder. The Junior organization was brought about through the efforts of Drs. Bertha and Leland Shafer of rural Richmond, with the co-operation of Jimmy's mother, the late Mrs. Betty Schroeder. Dr. Bertha Shafer, in discussing the contributions from the Junior organization, pointed out that "It is healthy youngsters like these that help to make it possible for crippled children to be treated." The Juniors, at the party presented an Easter Bonnet to the 1962 Easter Seal child, Carol Ann Perrin, 7, of Harvard and to the 1960 Easter Seal child, Marianne Beam, 4, of Woodstock. Both youngsters have steadily gained since their treatments at the center. Others who received gifts for their outstanding contributions are Mrs. Eleanor Jorg e n s c n , r e g i s t e r e d p h y s i c a l therapist and her assistant, Mrs. June Vahey, who spends much of her time treating students in the physically handicapped room at North school, Crystal Lake; Mrs. Esther Malina, 1962 fund drive coordinator and Dr. Bertha Shafer. CARD OF THANKS I wish to express my thanks for the many kindnesses shown me while I was a surgical patient in the McHenry hospital. The cards; letters, gifts, visits, phone calls/and prayers of my relatives and friends while I was in the hospital and since returning home- have all been much appreciated. A special thank-you to Dr. Gladstone, Dr. Alvary and the nursing staff for their wonderful care and to the members of the clergy for their prayers and visits. Paul Yanda 4-5-62 ASK COOPERATION IN APPREHENDING MISCHIEF-MAKERS The epidemic of BB gun shooting through windows in this area has evidently spread to other parts of the, county. In fact, McHenry police now feel that possibly the windows broken at Junior high school and in two local homes a few weeks ago might have been the work of young visitors to the city. In recent nights, many cases have been reported in nearby cities. Chief Grobel of McHenry police asks that local residents observe carefully any suspicious acts, and report at once to local officers so that the persons responsible may be apprehended.
