c'age Twenty THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, June 7, 1962 McCullom Lake FORMER RESIDENT REPEATS NUPTIAL VOWS IN CHICAGO Elnra Nelson One14 of the loveliest and sweetest native girls of McCullom Lake made a beautiful bride on Saturday at All Saints Euiscopal church as Poppy Cable married Philip Nienstedt of Scottsdale, Ariz. The young couple had tentatively planned a Hawaiian honeymoon and may be on the way west by. now. Upon their return, they will reside in Arizona where Mr. Nienstedt is employed. Details of the wedding appear on the society page of the Plaindealer. Pretty as a picture was the bride's tiny four year old sister, Susan Beth who almost "stole the show" as the flower girl. She wore a floor length gown of white silk organza with a wide sash of apricot 'velvet. Poppy's brother, Bob, served as a groosman. Father Bud / was mighty proud to escort his lovely daughter down/the aisle while mother Alije^'(Liz) suffered mortification. Seems that during the "hecktivity" preceding the wedding, she was locked out of Poppy's apartment and had to go to church "sans" Hat and Purse!, Isn't that the worst? Everything else moved along according to schedule and we would wish the nevtflyweds the alpha and omega of ail happiness. Rev. Warren G. Thummell of Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, gave the benediction. Mrs. Mary Tomasello placed the wreath on the Memorial in memory of her son, Jim, who died at sea last December. His name will be added to the four already named who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of their country. Grateful acknowledgment to Commander Roy Hbmo for his address and the appearance of the American Legion Post, the Drum and Bugle ^Corps, the Rifle squad, and the Viscounts who certainly contribute in the greatest, measure to the success off these programs. Mrs. Theresa Schultz is the permanent chairman of this project and was responsible for the arrangements. Hello Again, To All Of You My departure from the column was a bit abrupt, but I sure didn't plan it that way. Won't subject you to all the details that Elma has so artfully covered already but it is nice to be back. I do feel rested and I had hoped for a vacation but that isn't quite what I had in mind! The service at the hospital was excellent but the food was lousy! (Who can make a meal of cream-of-wheat, soft boiled eggs, and custard? Ugh!) Seriously., I received the finest of treatment and all you wonderful friends and readers surely boosted this reporter's morale, Very humbly, may I offer my gratitude? It is impossible to adequately thank Elma Nelson for the "spendiferous" job she did. Coming on my notes cold on a Monday morning and banging out the news in such wonderful fashion. She must have special talents because only a mind readerr could possibly have deciphered n?y notes. She deserves the finest of verbal orchids. In print, I will simply say, Thank You, Pal!! jJVotes From The Village Board Ord. No. 53 which covers the appropriations for the fiscal year April 1, 1962 to March 31, 1963 was passed unanimously by the board at the last meeting of the president and trustees on Monday, May 28. An ordinance prohibitirig parking on village streets^when heavy snow is expected will be published and become effective thereafter. This has no interest for readers now but it will have next winter. It is an aid for snowplowing, of course. The prevalence of dutch elm disease in the village was discussed and the consensus of opinion was that infected trees must go! If they are on village property, the village will destroy them and already have. If they are on residents' properties, each resident must foot the bill" for their evacuation. This is to protect the healthy trees. The application of Ronald Coleman for a reserve police officer was accepted by the board. The next meeting will be held on June 11 and the public is invited. Frank Poledna was taken to Passavant hospital, Chicago, as of May 24 and was operated on May 31. As of Monday morning, he was still a patient there. (It was reported that he was in a great deal of pain but we hope that is over by now. Big surprise was Will Schultz being hospitalized in McHenry on Friday evening for pneumonia. He had been ailing all of last week (his vacation, too) and finally acceded to his wife's insistence on Friday. In case you didn't know, he is my brother-in-law. Here's hoping he didn't miss his only child's graduation from Junior High on Tuesday night. Will was receiving oxygen until Sunday night when his condition improved greatly. Please do send cards to all these patients. They mean so very much when you are confined! day . . . Occolades to Marie Howe who fashioned the beautiful flag of the newly organized Lakemoor Scouts who are sponsored by McHenry V. F. W. post No. 4600. Marie is a member of the V. F. W. auxiliary. And didn't those Scouts (boys and girls) look magnificent in the Memorial dayy#^ipfiaarraa de ? Large Crowd For Memorial Day Service A disappointment fas the failure of Rep. Feme Charter Pierce to make the Memorial Day address but Don Pareriti was fine as a master of ceremonies. He introduced Father Rennell of St. Mary's . church who gave the invocation. The Resounding Success Most spectacular of all rummake sales so far, was brought to a most successful conclusion with the "take" being listed at upwards of two hundred dollars. Mrs. Louise Hammerstein engineered this project and she can be exceptionally proud. She had a very fine group of women working with her which helped immeasurably. A terrific amount of merchandise was turned in by local folks and most of it went. The residue was bundled up and hauled away by the Salvation Army so nothing was wasted. The venture was sponsored by the Ladies of the Lake and these gals will meet again on Thursday, June 14. You are invited. Hospital Inmates Mrs. Jane Kauke returned home from McHenry hospital last Thursday after being a patient for almost two weeks. During that time she underwent surgey but is convalescing in fine fashion now. Welcome Home To Ed Caron who arrived home from the Army after three years. He had been stationed in Germany. He has grown even taller and looks just wonderful. Naturally, mom and pop McDonald are most happy to have their son home again. Disa 'N' Data May Kennenberg is "crowing" about grandson John Padgett receiving his first stripe in the Army. He is now a P.F.C. and stationed in Kentucky. He is certainly proving his mettle. Fine lad and we couldn't be happier . . . Village president Jake Levesque, son J. R., and Don Nelson attended Harvard's Milk Day on Saturday. Jake enjoyed lunch and dinner with Senator Everett Dirksen who was Guest Of Congressional Nominee Theresa Schultz was the guest of John Kimball who is the congressional nominee from the newly formed 12th district and his name will appear on the Democratic side of the ballot in November. He opposes Bob McClory, the Republican candidate. Mrs. Scnuitz and Billy Giblin, The McHenry County Dem ocratic Central committeec chairman, journeyed to High land Park on Memorial Day where the twenty-five dollar per plate dinner was held. Earlier in the day, the Giblins had been guests at the Wilh Schultz home for a holiday cook-out. many will enter the employment ranks, or the armed services. Whatever path you choose, choose it well, and then follow it until you reach your goal. Aim high -- and you can't fail! Diamond Years For Mrs. Boyle Mrs. Elizabeth Boyle marked her seventy-fifth birthday on May 27 with sons, Ross and Dave,, and their wives, Kay and Anne, coming to help celebrate. A lovely way to celebrate a very special occasion. Congrats To Grads Because of the large number of students who have^graduated or will be graduating in the next few days, it would be impossible to publish all the names. They have already appeared elsewhere in the Plaindealer. We would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every boy, girl, man, and woman the ultimate in success. For those graduating from Junior High, St. Mary's, or St. Patrick's your school life has just begun. You will go on to high school and college, for most, we hope. Thanks to Diane and Bernice Bjork, I have a certificate which insures me membership in the M. O. of the I. S„, (Mystic Order of the Itching Stitch) Aren't I the lucky one? See you next week, if you can stand more of the same! Life is composed of length, depth and width. Too many people, however, are interested in length, only. One reason for so many college and high school failures: no one can put a gallon of water into a quart jar. EMERGENCY SERVICE Motorists running out of gasoline on Chicago's metropolitan expressway system will be charged $2.50, effective June 15, for emergency service by the expressway patrol, W. J. Payes, Jr., director of the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings, announced last week. An average of 200 motorists a month run out of gasoline on the expressway system, according to reports compiled by the Division of Highway's emergency traffic patrol system. Payes saidw the $2.50 charge was agreed upon by the state highway en- ^ gineers after a thorough study-' of the costs of the service to-- the state of Illinois. The sfale' will break even on the $2.50 charge when the cost of such services is included, he added. Motorists out of gasoline are among the leading causes of traffic delays on the express-, way system, ne said. A bachelor is a feller with faults he's never heard of yet.
