One thousand McHenry boys and girls have worked' the entire year to prepare their animals, clothes and other projects for this annual climax. In the entertainment portion of the fair, many thrills are in store for fair-goers. On Thursday night Miss McHenry County will be crowned. There is an outstanding group of candidates this year and enthusiasm is high. There will be several highly entertaining acts between the various phases of the queen contest. Admission to the grandstand will be free. Queen Entries Among the entries is Gail Marquart of McHenry, sponsored by the V.F.W. auxiliary. Miss Marquart was the 1961 Fiesta Day queen and made an excellent showing in, county competition later. Seven other candidates include Phyllis Peterson of Hebron, Joyce Gulley of Crystal ^ake, Renate Kuestner of Huntley, Roberta Carlson of W'oodst; ck, Pamela Hansen of Cary and Midge Olbnch of Harvard. Admission to the grandstand is free. Saturday night will again feature the Swenson Thrillcade show, an outstanding performance of daredevil driving and daring tricks with the automobile. Climaxing the fair on Sunday will be a full day of hors£ racing and horse shows. The junior horse show will start the day off, followed by the 4-H horse show. In the afternoon, a fhll racing ONE THEFT MASS OTHERWISE QUIET HOLIDAY PERIOD With the exception of one sizable theft at the Legion carnival grounds last Wednesday evening, the holiday passed quietly in McHenry. Sometime between 1 and 7 a.m. Wednesday morning intruders stole sixteen portable radios and a tape recorder valued at more than $467 from merchandise stands. The grounds were lighted, and two night watchmen were reported to have been on duty, but tmeves managed to get away with the items undetected. It was not until the, stands were opened Wednesday evening that the loss was noticed, and a complaint was signed by Commander Roy Homo of the Legion. Thefts were reported in other places in the McHenry area also. A metal picnic table was taken from the Robert Raspoli home in LilVmoor, and a boat pier was stolen from the John Sachitti residence at 2010 Orchard drive. Other items were also taken from the garage near the Sachitti home. The deceased was a member of the Moose arid the American Legion. His interest in politics continued through the years, and brought him into office as Republican committeeman in Precinct 9. As a leader in many fields, his undertakings resulted in a large and loyal following, as well as others who were not always in agreement with his ideas. However, a desire to promote his home community was credited quite generally by both groups to his tireless efforts in behalf of those things he thought in the best interest of progress. Survivors are his wife, Genevieve; his mother, Mrs. Exilda McDermott; a daughter, Claire Frances Cleary, of Proctor, Minn.; two brothers, Edvard and Leon McDermott of Proctor; two sisters, Mrs. Teanette Nicholette of Superior, Wis., and »Mrs. Hazel Cleary, of Proctor. He was preceded in death by his son, C. F. McDermott, Jr., in June of 1959. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home until 10 o'clock this (Thursday) morning, when last rites will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church, with interment in the church cemetery.
