Fun on a Hot Day With the temperature going up intip the 90's last Thursday Chris A Williams packed up towelsj lunches and about ten children and headed for .Wooster Lake for some cool swimming. Let's Go Visiting This week we go to the home of Rich and Kay Fredricks. They have lived in Sunnyside for 8M> years. Rich is a plumber who loves to play baseball. He also belongs to the Rescue Squad and is a village trustee. Kay is a busy housewife who loves to cook and bake. You can always count on her for a helping hand. The Fredricks have three children, Rich, Jr., who is 12 Vb and very active in Boy Scouts. He also belongs to Major Little League. Mary Kay is 11. and a member of the Girl Scouts, and Mark. 8 years old and a third baseman in the Little League. They all attend St. John's church. 1 don't want to forget their pet dog. Spotty, ?nd the two aquariums they have. This Is one swell family.- Birthday Wishes- To Butch Kennebeck on the fourteenth, A1 May on the fifteenth, Mary Elizabeth Metzg e r o n t h e s e v e n t e e n t h , a n d Ernie La Bay on the eighteenth. Anniversary Wishes To Clara and Ray Harrington who celebrate ? years of wedded bliss on the fifteenth. May you both have many more. Sympathy Our condolences go out to Mr. and Mrs. A. Fritz on the death of Nora's aunt who • passed away on June 27. Visiting; T h e C a m m a r t a s w e n t t o North brook Sunday to see their granddaughler, Catherine, who is home from college. They are mighty proud of this young lady. Grandpa and Grandma Barry were Sunday visitors at the Fritz house. We had a house full of company when my sisters and their families came out for a day of swimming and fishing. Dean Cios, who incidentally throws a mean horseshoe and swings a pretty good badminton racquet (any takers), had weekend guests. His mother, two nieces, and friends spent a wonderful time there just enjoying themselves. The senior Lehmans spent Saturday in Chicago visiting old friends. Vacation The Schultz family spent a few weeks in Lake Sarah, Minn. A well deserved vacation "was spent fishing, swimming and visiting with relatives. Sick List Tammy Kinder was a very sick girl last week with bronchitis. Mrs. Tucker is home from the hospital and recovering very nicely. Fourth of July Doings The Cammaratas had a house full of company to celebrate the Fourth. A delicious cookout was enjoyed by son, Philip, arid his family, their daughter, Mary, with her husband and son, Roy, and thendaughter, Judy Camm'arata. The Kinder family with their relatives spent the day swimming and picnicking. The Shelley family enjoyed a quiet day at home with friends. Phil and Eleanor Mangold had quite a few friends over for a cook-out to celebrate the Fourth. The Lennon family spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. S. Blythe of Spring Grove. Joe and Elizabeth Metzger and children were invited to a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harrer of Crystal Lake. Accident Little Randy Mangold, grandson of Phil and Eleanor, caused some excitement when he fell and split his lip open. He was taken to McHenry hospital. Busy Week The Williams family has had a busy week picnicking and visiting. Sunday they took a trip to Madison, Wis., where they visited the campus of University of Wisconsin. Tuesday Chris and children went into Chicago with La Marr. They enjoyed breakfast downtown, visited court with daddy to watch the proceedings and ended with a trip to an amusement park, where they went on various rides and tried their skills. La Marr was up early on the Fourth to enjoy a golfing outing with Bill Kohl and Leslie Krieger. In the evening they enjoyed McHenry fireworks with the Frank De Pawe family. Judge and Mrs. A. L. Sengstock had her brother, George M. Bohr, from Minneapolis with them for a week. A wonderful Fourth of July dinner was enjoyed with Mrs. Lena Bohr, an aunt, from McHenry, the Sengstocks' daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Slgwalt and Gwendolyn of^Des- Plaines, Mrs. Clara Sengstock of. D e s Plaines, the judge's mother. Mrs. A. L. Sengstock will be remembered as the former Genevieve Bohr of McHenry. Much Needed Rest After baby sitting for five days Irma Gunther, the three children and her brother from Chicago took off for a vacation to the Ozarks. PISTAKEE TERRACE Birthday Party A party was held for Pat Flood at his home on July 3. Guests present were Pat's wife, Barb, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Rill, Barb's sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and John Ros, Bob and Bernice Froehlig and sort, Bobbie. Vern and Millie Mondl, Elen and Chris Grom, A1 and Carrie Jourdan, Kenny Froehiig and best gal, Judy. Vefn and In$k Treptan and Carl Sallaz. What a party, it lasted till the wee hours of the morning. Art Fair The Terrace is very proud o have been represented at 'he Art Fair by Joan Stull. Belated Birthdays A belated birthday to three nembers of the Cisewski famly. Little Mary was one on he twenty-first of June, her brother, Tommy, was 2 on the wenty-fourth and mommy, 3ernie, celebrated hers on July > with relatives and friends 'rom DesPlaines, Chicago and Red Wing and Winona, Minn. Vacations Joannie Lester from Chicago is spending a few weeks with her cousins, Debbie, Mary and Tommy Cisewski. Rob Froehlig home from a business vacation in California was greeted by friends and relatives in a gathering at his home on July 4. Anyone interested? Call 385-3044. Weekend Guests Guests over the weekend at the home of Mary and George Mecko were cousins, Jerry and Elsie Kirsch, and son. Bob. John Kordik and family and also brother, A1 Mecko, and his family. Home Again Don and Barb Zamastil and family are home after spending a week in North Dakota visiting Barb's relations, and also spent one day in Canada with Barb's brother, William Zimmermann. What a surprise they got when they arrivedhome to find out that Barb's mother was recuperating nicely from surgery and that her, brother, Charles, and his wife became proud parents of twins on Father's Day, a boy and a girl, their first offsprings. Last Wednesday they entertained relations from Oak Park and Chicago. Saturday they had a family party to celebrate their three children's birthdays. Dale was 4 on June 25, Betty was 2 on July 5 and Davey will be 5 on July 17. Twice Told Tales FIFTY YEARS AGO Taken from the Files of July 4, 1913 McHenry will fall in line with other up-to-date towns in this vicinity, and have her streets sprinkled with oil. Two carloads of oil have been ordered and are due to arrive next' week. A company of fifty of our young people chartered the passenger boat, "Gladene" and made the trip to Fox Lake and back Saturday night. The party stopped at the Mineola hotel, where dancing was enjoyed. Bargains at the L. F. P* Jay Graham, Lake county marksman and trap shooter, has carried off the first prize a 1 the Olympic games. Graham had the highest individual score of all marksmen in the world, getting ninety-four ot the hundred possible. We fiave received a couple of souvenir post cards from Salvadore Romano, who is attending the Democratic convention at Baltimore, Md. He has many friends here, where the family had a summer home at Emerald Park. Yourself and ladies are cordially invited to attend an opening dance at Buch's hall next Saturday night, July 6. The hall is situated on Fox river hear the bridge, and is sure to be the coolest dance hall in McHenry. This will be the first of a series of dances to be held during the summer months. Music by the Imperial orchesra. Dance tickets 50 cents. FORTY YEARS AGO Taken from the Files of July 6, 1922 The opening of McHenry's new golf course took place Sunday morning before a gathering of visitors and members which reached over the 300 mark. Twelve foursomes participated in the opening day event. Cartoonist Sidney Smith m a d e t h e f i r s t d r i v e a n d George L. Murphy of Woodstock made the best score. The Frank Smith house at Johnsburg, which in recent years has been occupied by hi son-in-law, Lawrence Baer an family, was. totally destroy by fire Tuesday noon of this week. Volunteer workers responded to the calls. Water was hauled to the burning structure in milk cans from nearby wells. Efforts to save the place were in vain but clothing and some of the household goods were saved. The Fox dance pavilion ent e r t a i n e d r e c o r d b r e a k i n g crowds over the Fourth of July holidays. From one of the proprietors we learn that approximately 3.500 people patronized the place over the four nights, t h e T u e s d a y n i g h t c r o w d breaking all records. The first summer home ever built on Fox river, north ot this village, was'sold last week. We refer to the summer home of Joseph J. Frett, which was erected about twenty-seven years ago and until the past few years was occupied during the summer by the Frett family. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO Taken from the Files of July 8, 1937 The Fourth of July weekend was a busy one, at the McHenry Country club, with 487 visitors registering during the three days. Eugene Sayler celebrated the Fourth by winning the Pouse cup, defeating Willard Galitz 1 up in the thirty- six hole finals. From "So I Hear" comes the news that crowds may come and crowds may go, but that was the biggest ever. The A m e r i c a n L e g i o n c a r n i v a l drew more people to McHenry than we have ever seen since Tige was a pup. McHenry people should hand a bouquet or two to those who directed and handled endless traffic through those sweltering days and long, crowded nights. Our hat is off --all the way. McHenry's- baseball team won a game, on the Fourth of July, from a coming yourjg team of Johnsburg boys by a 12 to 4 score, then dropped a hot battle on Monday to the Chicago Senators, a colored team, by a 5 to 1 count. They were one of the classiest looking colored teams that has been seen in these parts in many a moon. Mrs. E. E. Bassett entertained members of the Ladies Aid society Wednesday evening in honor of Mrs. L. A. Erickson, who will leave in a few days with her husband and children to make her home in California. A pleasant evening was enjoyed and Mrs. Erickson was presented with a gift from the society.
