EXPLAIN PROPER WAY TO REPORT DISTRICT FIRES Fires may be reported in either of two ways in the McHenry area, Bob Zahn, local Illinois Bell manager, said this week in response to questions from area residents on the proper way to report a fire. "The important thing, of course, is to remember in which fire district you reside," Zahn said. He then cited the two ways of reporting a fire: A customer can call direct to the fire department that services his area. The departments and their telephone numbers are the McHenry fire district. 385-2121; the Nunda rural fire district, 459-2141; the Fox Lake fire district. Area Code 312, JU7-2121; and the Waueonda fire district.,) Area Code 312, JA6-2121. The McHenry fire district serves McHenry, Lakemoor, McCullom Lake, Pistakee and Sunnyside. \ In the event a customer doesn't know the fire department number, he or she should dial the "Operator" and say, "I want to report a fire. I live in the McHenry fire district." (Use the appropriate district name.) Persons rnof sure what district they reside in should dial "Operator", report the fire and let the operator assist in reaching the proper fire district. "We treat all fire calls and o t h e r e m e r g e n c y m e s s a g e s with the greatest importance," said Mrs. Margaret Barton, area chief operator for Illinois Bell. She added that procedures In Illinois Bell's traffic department clearly define the method 1 to be followed in handling fire calls. "When more than one person reports the same fire, we advise them that the fire already has been reported and the fire department notified," Mrs. Barton said. Zahn said the easiest way to report a fire, or other emergency, is to keep all emergency numbers near the telephone for handy reference. He also urged that customers keep the name of their fire district, near the phone for use in emergencies. "There is a place to write the fire and police numbers on the front of each telephone directory and a customer can put the name of the district there, too," he said, "and all tile emergency numbers a customer needs are on„ the inside front cover of the directory."
