MARY LOU HARTOG, WRITES COLUMN Msfi., Lou Hartog - W.L. 653-7176 % Hi: I've been asked to write the Wonder' Lake news and I hope all of you will bear with me if I seem a bit rusty. It will take a while to get back into the swing of writing again. However, I am sure .that with the help of all you good "newsmakers" we'll be a big success. You make the news -- I only report it -- so let me in on what's cookin' in your clan and 9 I'll pass it along. Choose your own method of getting the news to me smoke signals. The Koennekers moved to Florida about a year ago. I tried to contact the Jack Russell family to learn more about their vacation but there was no one home. I do know that the whole family, Jack, Ruth, Sally and Susie, of Highland Shores, took a trip to Massachusetts (near Boston) to visit their son, Dick, who is stationed there. Maybe I can learn more about the trip by next week. Vacationers Lee and Barbara Leman h a v e r e t u r n e d f r o m t h e i r honeymoon to Niagara Falls and the Wisconsin Dells with glowing accounts of both places. The gowns were authentic^- courtesy of Mrs. Willian^Born. It was. the models and their antics and the narrator that were priceless. "Les Girls" doing the modeling „vvere Delores Wines, Lee Picki\jm, Kay LeFebre, Margaret dottrel], Isabell Halhauer. Roberta Dicker, Kay Beat tie and Dorothy Halbauer. The highlight Of the evening was a hat for a flower girl made of 1001 yellow roses left over from the Rose Bowl Parade and measured at leasi two feet high and the performance of Kay LeFebvre as the ring bearer -- complete with white sailor hat. white Buster Broun blouse, black jacket and short striped trousers. Pictures were taken of each irown by Rose Weisenberger. To try to describe it all would take the whole column but I feel sure that any time the girls want to do a repeat performance they'll have a packed house. Firemen's Carnival From my home I have an excellent opportunity to ODserve the very comforting efficiency of our Wonder Lake firemen. Several times when I have timed them and from the time the siren ended to. the time either the rescue squad or the fire trucks were at the corner of Hancock and Wonder Lake Drive on their way to give help where it was needed -- not more than 5 minutes had passed. I think we sometimes tend to take services for granted -- not stopping to realize that these men give their time freely- s and having lived in Wonder Lake jince the time when there was no such thing as a fire department and if a home caught fire the best we could hope for was a bucket brigade -I for one am very glad they're around. The W. L. firemen are having their annual carnival July 27, 28 and 29. Let's all give them our support and make this year's carnival THE BEST EVER!!! Move to Omaha Long time residents of Wonder Lake, Russ and Elaine Spcuhr. left last week for their new home in Omaha. Neb., where Russ has been transferred by his company. Their daughter. Former Resident 111 The many friends of Ethel Van Kanegan will be sorry to learn that she is quite ill with virus pneumonia at Woodstock hospital. Ethel, who now resides in Park Forest, has been a Wonder Laker for many years and I arft sure she would welcome some cards from her friends. Fireworks Damage We're quite sure Cathy Smith and Sharon Hoffman will be content to view future fireworks from a distance from now on. Both received some painful burns from fireworks which exploded too close and t oo soon. It's a BOY!! Congratulations to George and Jean on the arrival of George, III, first son and heir to the House of Hartman, June 28. at Woodstock hospital.
