Subdivision Pleased With Decision The subdivision was greatly pleased with the intelligent decision reached by the supervisors of the McHenry County zoning board regarding the site of a garbage incinerator. The problem was a tough one to be sure and citizens of McHenry Shores appreciate their efforts. Vandalism At Channel It has come to my attention that there has been destruction to boats and property at the Channel. A motor was stolen. Neighbors are warned to keep a close watch on their boats. Parents are also asked to keep their children away from them. A number of children were seen throwing stones at the boats and playing inside the cabins. One last thing about boats; someone has been borrowing them, using them for a time and then returning them without telling the owner. It is supposed they are children, so, please kids, if you want to borrow a boat why,don't you try the adult way to ask the owner. The trip was made especially to celebrate their ftwenty-fifth wedding anniversary, and what a lovely time th£y had. They each have a brother living in California so they spent 10 days in Oakland in order to be with them. They visited with another friend in Palos Park, for several days. Here they toured Marineland nnrf all the beautiful sights in the vicinity. Just before returning home they stopped at Reva's old home in Waterloo, Iowa, where she saw old friends and familiar places. They report that they had perfect weather and must have timed it just right for a short while after they left a place called the Bighorns in Wyoming it rained two foot of hailstones on the place. The William Pinkonsley family also headed west and traveled almost the same route as did the Brods. They visited Los Angeles, the Seattle World's Fair, Yellowstone Park, The Black Hills and Disneyland. While in California, they went to all the fabulous shows and saw many stars, Jimmy Durante, Red Skelton, George Burns, Carol Channing and the Paris Follies. They visited Knott's Berry Farm and also went to see an uncle in San Francisco. They were also lucky with their weather as the only rainy day they had was when they got home. "A 'Camping We Will Go" The Whitneys and the Olszewskis went for a two day camping trip last week and had a marvelous time. Audrey said it was her first time camping and she was amazed at the cleanliness and convenience of the paries. They camped at Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin. Auxiliary Police Bob Harper and Charley Wagner took part in the civil defense program as auxiliary police for the McHenry Fiesta Day held Sunday, July 15. We all appreciate the extra effort on their part, in the training of this job as we realize they will be available should the occasion ever arise. In The Service First Sgt. John H. Risting, stationed in Berlin, Germany, with the U.S. Army for a year and a half, has received a 30 day furlough and with his wife is now touring Holland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. His tour of duty in Berlin is 3 years, so he has one and a half more years to go before returning to the U.S. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Risting of the Shores. He is a veteran of World War II, the Korean War ahd a veteran of 22 years of service and was a survivor of the infamous Pearl' Harbor attack as well as in the Pacific through World War II. Company's Coming Mrs. Ziemetz had company from Wisconsin last Tuesday. Visiting were her aunt, Mrs. Theresa Kuglitch, cousin, Mrs. Mary Buth and her daughter, Sharon, and a friend, Mrs. Francis. All were from Menomonee, Wis. Sandi Wetzel and her girl friend, Linda, traveled with the Kunz family of McHenry for a week's visit in Wisconsin. Jeanette Burchfield had a house guest last week, Patricia Ratkowski of Chicago. The Claire Mueller family had a surprise visit over the fourth. Claire's cousin, Robert Rossler, and his wife and three children dropped in unexpectedly. They live North of Edmonton. Elsie and Jack Schmitt, onetime residents of the Shc&es, came back for a short visit last Saturday. After visiting a few friends in the area they were invited to stay for supper at the Gordon Hattans. Garden Party The McHenry Garden Club enjoyed a lovely party at the home of Mrs. Herbert Engdahl last Wednesday. Those attending from McHenry Shores were Mrs. Elian Duncan, who is president of the group, and who. brought two guests; Mrs. Bea MacCallum and Irene Middlekauff. Mildred Snively also attended and brought as her guests, Mrs. Virginia Verstege and Mrs. Helen Smith. The following day there was an equally entertaining bridge and luncheon at the yacht club. The hostesses here were Mrs. Nell Rode and Mrs. Leah Hogan. Attending this were Irene Mueller, Helen Smith, Virginia Verstege, Mildred Snively, Terry Coates, Bea MacCallum, Irene Middlekauff and Leona Wagner. Happy Birthday Six Year Old A birthday party was given for little Dawn Ewald last Sunday to celebrate her sixth birthday. An eye-appealing smorgasbord supper was served along with cake and ice cream. Guests included Dawn's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Enger, and her aunt and uncle, Florence and Dave Chase, and their four children. ----" As extra entertainment they went down to see the parade (Fiesta Day) and got wet, of course. N The two little cuties playing with their dolls^are Susan and Kathy aged 8 and 9. The Little Leaguer is 11 year old Mike, whose mind, Betty informs us. is usually on baseball. Dick, who has just entered his teens, is another sports addict with golf and swimming as favorites. The young man on crutches is 14 year old Jim, who sprained his ankle while playing. His loves are football, wrestling, waterskiing and track. Betty is 16 and a very pretty young lady as I'm sure many a young gentleman will agree with me. Bonnie, who is 17, has just graduated from high school and is now working in a food store. Nineteen-year-old Joan is a bride-to-be. She and her fiance will be married on Oct. 6. Please sports, which everyone in the family loves, he is a cook. Quite a good one too, according to the family. Bob, 25, the eldest of the sons, also a sheet metal worker has always been excellent in sports. Golf, bowling, baseball and football are tops with him. Everyone is invited to attend. If you want to go Hawaiian and want to have fun here's the thing to go to. Proceeds of the luau will go toward maintenance of the roads of the subdivision. Auxiliary News The next monthly meeting of the Woman's auxiliary will be held Monday, Aug. 6, at the community house at 8 p.m. The hostesses for this meeting are Ann Novak, Katherine Molitor and Lil Neumann. Outing There were ten ladies who attended the outing Tuesday, July 17. The ladies made a trip up to Lake Delavan, Wis., and had an enjoyable day.
