Page Nine Firemen's Carnival Well, the firemen's carnival is over for another year and all the booths are taken down and put away and things are starting to get back to normal after a successful carnival, in spite of old man weather who shed tears on us all day Saturday. The firemen are grateful to everyone for the active participation which helped to make it the success it was. Of course, the highlight of the event was the choosing of a local girl to be "Miss Wonder Lake". This honor was accorded Miss Leanna Sellek, 16. of Wonder Center subdivision. Leanna was presented with her prize of $50 and received her crown and ribbon from Miss Mary Jane Gillis, Miss Wonder Lake of 1961. Second prize went to Donna Clark or White Oaks Bay and third prize went to Sue Speuhr or Wooded Shores. For details see feature story in this week's paper. Showers for Twins Surprise showers for bridesto- be, Marv. Lou and Suzanne Miller, were given last week. On Tuesday, a large group of their friends gathered at a local inn and greeted the unsuspecting euests of honor. The room was beautifully decorated for the occasion with ribbons and bells, and the tables were gay with pink and yellow umbrellas. Many gifts were received and refreshments were enjoyed by everyone. Hostesses for this lovely party were the bridesmaids. Sharon La Greca. Lynn Wilkinson, Anita Beckenbaugh and Frances May field. Thursday evening was also a carefully planned surprise for the girls given by Mrs. Alice Murdock at her home in Crystal Lake. About twenty guestr attended in their honor. Softball Game A softball game between some McHenry men and some of our Lakeland Park men took place last Sunday noon. It started off with our men taking the lead in the third inning 23 to" 4. As the other team warmed up the scor« closed up until the eighth -inning when it was about 29 to 32, still our favor. Then our men got hot again and finally whipped them 44 to 32 It was lots of fun to watch and It looked like the men were having a ball too. Guests were Dolly Nowell, Sue Grizely, Vivian Steele, Jessie Matthews, Inga Pissowatski, and Donna Rode. Decorating the table were adorable basinet te favor cupsC a huge stork and a beautiful cake. Attend Family Reunion Mrs. Wayne Dettner and son, Herbie, attended a family reunion last Sunday, July 22, at Mrs. Dettner's cousin, John Thatcher's farm in Gurnee. There were about ninty-five people there, including a cousin, Mrs. Arlene Parker, and family from Dallas, Texas, and several relatives from Whitewater. Wis. They all had an enjoyable time. Camping and Vacationers On Friday evening, July 20, the Laursens and the Gladmans took off for a weekend of camping at the Dells. The weather was perfect and outside of the hard mattresses a wonderful time was had by all. The Koczors, Audrey and Bob, took a week's vacation away from it all last week. They toured the south which included Kentucky, North and South Carolina, and the Smoky hills. This must have felt like a second honeymoon as grandma Koczar was tending to the children back home. as and her niece, Joy, and husband, Jerry Covey, came out for dinner and then spent the afternoon chatting. Last week Alma Brushaber, Rose Schidell and Marie Horton and Lottie Kessler both from Chicago, attended a splash party in Johnsburg at the home of Ann Moran. Av ter a pleasant swim in their heated pool, Ann served cake and coffee. Wednesday Alma attended a club meeting at Marge Franklin's and enjoyed some of her delicious hi-caloried cake. Alma Brushaber's sister, Lydia Paul- Saturday, Aug. 11, is the big night for the Lilymoor association luau. Everyone is invited to attend. The children were served lunch and then played games, after which they all sang happy birthday and devoured cake and ice cream.
