Page Twelve THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, August 2, McCullom Lake GRANT LOAN TO SURVEY COST OF DISPOSAL PLANT live Levesque Word has been received from the Community Facilities Administration that our request for a federal loan to conduct a survey to determine the cost of a sanitary disposal plant has been granted. Baxter and Woodman, village engineers, will, in the. near future. conduct this survey with a complete breakdown of figures as to cost of the plant, suitable land for its construction and all matters pertaining to this project. This does not mean that a sewer system will be constructed in the near future! Only the voters of our village can determine whether we will have such a system or not! After the survey has been conducted, the plan will be submitted to you, the taxpayer, as a referendum cn the ballot. , With so many antiquated and sub-standard septic systems in the area, the need for such a system is acute. Most dwellings do not comply with county building codes' and cannot, because of lack of property. In the AP bulletin which was released to newspapers in the area, an arbitrary figure of $308,170 was cited as the cost for the sewer system. This was a rough "guesstimate" submitted by the village engineers for the purpose of obtaining the loan. The actual cost may be somewhat lower than this figure. The facts will be known and released to you when the survey is finished and reviewed by the village board. are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Austin of Nippersink, Wis. A reception for inv i t e a guests will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion hall in Genoa City, Wis. We would like to take this opportunity to wish these two fine young people every happiness. Cullom-Knoll Election On Sunday The annual election of the Cullom-Knoll association will be held this Sunday, Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. in the beachhouse. All members are urged to attend and offer candidates who will carry on the vital work of this organization. Goodwill for' the club should be abounding after the highly successful summer festival which was held last month. Proceeds "from this affair will* be used to further the work of the organization or to provide larger meeting quarters. Nominations for the various offices will he made from the floor since no nominating committee was named. Reunion After 20 Yean Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lipke of 4905 W. Parkview recently returned from the east coast where they visited with their son whom • they haven't seen for 20 years! He operates a very fine catering service and has been unable to visit his parents so they went to see him. They took the bus and enjoyed every minute of the scenery and you can bet the reunion was. a tearful one. So happy for these two very nice folks. Pisiakee Hiahland* MOUNT HOPE WSCS MEETS IN CHURCH AUG. 14 Hazel Morley HYatt 7-3320 Kay Sielisch HYatt 7-8414 Groceries , and Sandwiches "To Go" Aug. 4 Once more, residents of the village will-be able to-pick up forgotten jgrocery items, as of Saturday,. Aug. 4, when Mr. and Mrs. George Lorse will open the doors of the former Piotrowski grocery store. They will alsb feature "carry out" sandwiches with a large variety being offered. These new business people need our support if they are to succeed! Worthy of "Verbal Orchids" Ray Lary, a new resident of the community (he and his wife are -living in the former Charlotte Nehrke home), supplied expensive equipment and a great deal of his time for the spectacular success of our summer festival. He was the fellow responsible for putting four "go-carts" on the baseball diamond, tc the delight of the kiddies. This family has also become members and boosters of the Cullom-Knoll association and we most cordially welcome them aboard. Mrs. Mickey Murray stated that his aid was invaluable. Timely Treks An encounter with the mumps in North Dakota sent Theresa, Willard, and Lynne Schultz scurrying for the safety of Minnesota during their recent vacation. They journeyed to Cooperstown, N. D., to visit with our cousins, Shirley and Lester Ericksen. After a few days, Shirley contracted the ailment from her daughter who had just recovered. (And Shirley is a nurse, too!) The Schultzes found the resort they were looking for on Lake Winibigoshish--near Bimidji in Minnesota. The lake is a part of the Mississippi River. A gorgeous swimming pool, and loads of huge fish added up to a supreme vacation jaunt for the trio. Papa Clayt and grandson, Ken, both Nelsons, arrived home from Michigan right on schedule. They fished somewhere in the brush country but I can't remember the name of the darn place! Somewhere near Mesic (me sick, too). It was great seeing the relatives and Ken has a prized acquisition which will help him in his career. One slightly damaged doctor's kit. Seems as though uncle Don parked it in the driveway --and then ran over it! The junior Sheriffs, Ailleen and Bob, covered a'lot of territory in their recent two week car trek. First important stop was Chatanooga, Tenn., then on to Atlanta, Ga., and finally to Silver Springs, Fla. They continued on to Fort Meyer where they visited with Loren Rothermel (an ex-McHenry lad). They spent about four days in Miami where they indulged in deep sea fishing. Bob latched on to a 50 pound bull dolphin (5 feet long!) which he is having mounted. (How would you like to have that in your living room?) Next stop on the itinerary was Orange City where they visited Felix Matchet (spelling? ) and his sausage plant. Their northward leg took them to our nation's Capital and then on to Cleveland and home. It was a great journey but they are happy to be home with Pauline and Shorty once more. The W.S.C.S. of the Mount Hope church will have their next meeting on Aug. 14 at the church. The evening ^ill be a 'work shop' night. The gals will be busy making things for the bazaar in November. Hostesses will be Florence Smith and Shirley Wiley. Welcome Son Our former residents, Marcia and Larry Weaver, welcomed a baby boy on July 18 at Edwards hospital in Naperville. The Weavers live at Carol Stream in Wheaton. Baby Steven Lawrence was welcomed home by .Jeff, Cheryl and Bradley. Congratulations and much happiness to you all, recall that name and it applied only to Paul Struck now the city editor of the Harvard Herald. From a letter received, he is very much enthused with the idea of a reunion of the Screwy Dozen and offers to furnish music--along with Otto Pyritz. Sounds splendid and it should be persued. Message from Property Owner Although Mary Tallurico hasn't been coming out frequently this year, it is so nice to have word of her activities. Her close friend, Barbara Thacker, received a letter outlining her recent three week hiatus which took her to Mesa, Ariz. She visited with Jim's nephew, Nick Petrocelli, who owns a pizzeria in that city. During a trip to Nogales, Mexico, their car overheated in the desert and they were stranded until a friendly couple ventured along and rescued them. She ventured again into Mexico--this time in Juarez, across the Rio Grande Rivei from El Paso. It is fascinating to take that street car ride over the border from one country to another. (I did it in 1942). In her 4,000 mile journey. Mary also visited the apache land in Arizona where most ol the westerns are filmed. So happy to hear that Mary is feeling much better and more cheerful. She was desolate when her beloved Jim passed away. Here's hoping for an early visit from the gal. We are Touring State Capitol AS you read this column, we are getting ready to return from a delightful trip to our state capitol of Springfield. The board will convene again on Monday, Aug. 13, at 8 p.m., in the beachhouse. Gone, But Not Forgotten What a delightful surprise to have Anne and Frank Passalequa drop in for a visit. For new readers, they owned the house next door to us for many years and now reside in Conroe, Tex. where Frank has started his own company. Sandy went directly to the home of her closest chum, Barbara Sawdo, Linda visited with Star West in McHenry. and mom and pop made the rounds. They saw Mr. Lies and Mrs. Betty Reiter--both on W. Parkview and then on to our home--all on Sunday afternoon. They were singing the praises of Texas weather--especially in the winter. With another like we suffered through last year, they might get a heap of company this year!
